Today is Tuesday and I will be your pinch hitting host today!

I think Tuesday is a good day for Monsters, don't you?

So let's have them, werewolves, vampires, deformed creatures, boogie men, Frankensteins, or the more human variety, maybe even the imaginary kind...

“Oh Babs...” Dick sighed, leaning against the far wall as the woman he loved beat on the invisible barrier of the door. It was good to see her on her feet, strong and independent as she’d once been but...it was wrong...so very wrong.

“Let me in Dick.” Barbara crooned, stroking the wood of the door. “You need to invite me in.”

Dick covered his face with his hands. “I can’t Babs. And I won’t.”

“But we’re so good together Dick. Please baby, just ask me in.”

Dick’s chest heaved as he fought to control pain. His Babs was dead, the sooner he accepted that the better...

“Dick please?” She pleaded, “It’s so cold out.”

“I know babe, I know.” A single tear rolled down his cheek. “But I can’t let you in.” Two minutes longer. Bruce and Tim were on their way, armed and ready to end the life of the woman he loved...the woman he had loved...before this...

“Please Dick...just ask me in.”

“No Babs.” Dick muttered, slipping to the floor, still hiding his face. He couldn’t look at her, couldn’t see what she’d become. Tim and Bruce would be there soon, it’d all be ok.

There was a scream, an unearthly yowl and Babs was gone from the doorway. Dick wept, unable to pull himself up from the floor. The people he loved needed him, needed him in the fight but he couldn’t move.

The screaming stopped as abruptly as it stated.

Tim wrapped an arm around Dick’s shoulders, pulling his brother into his arms. “It’s done Dick. It’s over now.”

Bruce walked away, the remnants of her suit in hand; leaving his eldest son sobbed into his youngest’s arms. Family was family and they would look after each other...just as they’d looked after Barbara.

Glad you liked it. It was fun writing the darker side of what the bat’s are willing to do for each other. Have you ever read Ani Bester's Duty of the Eldest (http://ani-bester.livejournal.com/795233.html)? I was trying for a similar mood.

The Bats and dark fics match together greatly, and it's easy to get the full blast. But knowing this, it's even better when they're well written like this tiny thingy here. :)
