Monday: Songs in the Key of…Love
Hi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be tapping into some tunes for inspiration. Today’s theme is Songs in the Key of…Love! Your prompts can be any song title, set of lyrics, band name, or album title that has to do with love. From the first blush of new love to the bitter dregs of love gone wrong, it’s all fair game.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Astro, Ensemble, Grouplove
+ Stargate Atlantis, Evan Lorne/Any, Painted on My Heart (The Cult)
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any, Everybody Loves Me (OneRepublic)
+ MI5|Spooks, Lucas North/Adam Carter,
But like heaven above me
The spy who loved me
Is keepin’ all my secrets safe tonight
(Carly Simon)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

And tell me, when will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
(Barry Manilow)
Filled! Check, Please!, Nursey/Dex, "Weekend in New England"
Dex. Of course it's Dex.
It'd started their sophomore year, or at least that's when Derek realized it. Whenever Dex worked around the house, Derek made an effort to be there. Made an excuse, really, because Dex with his snapback worn backward, in his work flannel (the one he didn't mind getting greasy) with the sleeves rolled up? For some reason, it had an effect on Derek. Smudge a little grease on his face, like when he had to replace something on the refrigerator a couple weeks back, and... Well, he was just hot.
Not that Derek would admit that.
So Will hummed Barry Manilow tunes while he worked, and Nursey made sure he was nearby to watch at least part of the show. They usually didn't talk much, at least not after the first time Will spotted him, asked for something called a socket wrench, and Derek reached into Will's trusty toolbox and handed him...something. Sue him - he had other skills, okay?
Today's handyman job was due to Tango putting a pair of skates in the washing machine for some reason. Will got red and yelled at just about everyone, but Derek just followed him down into the basement and jumped up on the dryer, a book in his hands. After a bit, Will emerged from behind the washing machine, covered in dirt and lint, and looked like a mess when Derek inadvertently blurted out, "Weekend in New England?"
Dammit. He wasn't supposed to admit that he'd figured it out.
"What?" Dex asked. "You comin' up to Maine for the break?"
"No," Derek said, then shook his head. "I mean, no, not that. The song." When Dex gave him a nonplussed look, he just added, "Barry Manilow? Weekend in New England?"
Dex blushed, but that was really nothing new. He blushed a lot. "Oh," he said, then started putting his tools away. "Yeah, probably." He shrugged. "My ma loves him, so I listen to him a lot when I'm home." As he closed the lid to his toolbox, he added, "He's a romantic."
"That's chill," Derek said, then finally reprocessed what Dex had said. "Wait, you inviting me up to visit you during the break?"
And there was Dex's blush all over again. He didn't say anything, or at least anything outside of a mumble. "What?"
"I mean," Dex said as his amber eyes locked onto Derek's, "if you wanted to, that would be cool. I know last year you spent Spring break here at the Haus because your moms were in, I dunno. Dubai or something."
It's true. Derek had spent the entirety of Spring Break at the Haus by himself, as everyone else went back home, or at least somewhere that wasn't campus. His moms were in Cape Town this year, and Derek hadn't wanted to fly all the way there just to be jet-lagged a couple days, then turn around and come back, so he'd planned on going solo again.
"I wouldn't want to impose or anything," Derek said.
"You've met my family," Dex said as he rubbed at the dirt on his cheek. It just made the smudge worse. He pushed the washing machine back into place and put his toolbox on top. "One more person wouldn't make it any more or less crazy." He smiled at Derek.
Another thing that Dex had said tickled his brain. Romantic. "So. Romantic, huh?" he asked.
The blush seemed to deepen, and this time it reached the tips of Dex's ears. And oh, Derek hadn't meant it like that - he was trying to point out that Dex was a secret romantic. But before he could clarify, Dex cleared his throat and walked closer, stepping between Derek's legs. "I mean, my uncle has a cabin. If you want." His voice was heady, thick with something Derek could swear was want. And as Dex put his hands on Derek's knees, he felt his throat constrict.
"Chill," Derek squeaked out.
He was sure Dex would chirp him for it, but instead, he met Dex halfway for a kiss. An amazing kiss that was just the first, and yet promised so much more.
