Wednesday: Gifts

Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone, & welcome to day three of my guest-hosting week. I'm very pleased to announce my third theme - Gifts.

You can interpret "gifts" as tangible in some way - a puppy, a space-ship, a trip to Disneyland, firearms, dance lessons, etc - and they can be given for whatever occasion you like (or for no particular occasion at all). You can also interpret it as something intangible yet significant - life, love, freedom, closure, peace of mind, etc. Alternately, feel free to interpret it as the special skills, abilities, endowments, etc. that a character may possess, & prompt accordingly. It's up to you!

Please keep these rules in mind when posting prompts:
  • Only three prompts for the same fandom.
  • Only five prompts in a row (though if one of your prompts is filled, you can prompt again).
  • No spoilers in your prompts for at least a week after the airdate/release.
  • Warn for any spoilers for your fic in bold and leave at least three spaces before the text.
Prompt formatting examples (because proper formatting for the code monkeys is good manners):

Supernatural, Sam/Gabriel, "Would it kill you to be just a little bit appreciative?" "Gabriel, why the hell would I 'appreciate' this many blow-up dolls?"
Sherlock (BBC), John/Sherlock, it doesn't matter what John does, how careful he thinks he's been - Sherlock ALWAYS knows what he's bought him for any occasion
Doctor Who/Torchwood, Ten + Rose + Jack + any (or any combination thereof), sometimes the Doctor's uncanny ability to talk himself into or out of any situation is a gift... & sometimes it's just annoying

Nothing grabbing your attention? That's alright, there are plenty of Lonely Prompts out there waiting for love.

And remember - each fill is like a gift to the prompter, so really, you're participating doubly every time you post a comment fic today. Therefore have fun & give as much as you can!

breathing mirrors - PG, gen (a smidge of could-be Peter/Neal)

Noah and Brendan Lafferty were born in September, but which day only they know. Those records (actually, any records before Neal Caffrey and Bryce Larkin) are lost. They'll never be found because they were destroyed utterly. No one remembers Noah and Brendan Lafferty.

Bryce Larkin is declared dead, all evidence of him erased, and his body reported as incinerated. It's not his first death, though, and it doesn't take any more than the others have.

Neal Caffrey spends almost four years in jail before escaping twice. The second one takes and he's suddenly working for the man who imprisoned him. They actually get to be pretty good friends. Neal sometimes thinks he could fall in love Peter.

When Brendan shows up inside Noah's apartment, it's like seeing a ghost. They haven't stood face-to-face in almost fifteen years and a great deal has changed since then. Neither of them is who they were, that day Brendan became Bryce and Noah became Neal.

They smile at each other, talk about the world and where they've been, and sit at Noah's table. Noah pulls out the leftovers from dinner and asks what Brendan plans to do now.

Brendan shrugs. "Bryce Larkin is dead, for good this time."

Noah nods. "I'm not quite ready to move on yet," he says. "You can stay if you want." He pauses, meeting Brendan's eyes. "Or we can go somewhere. Do anything."

Brendan smiles. "I think Neal Caffrey has a brother," he muses, twirling spaghetti with his fork. "Wasn't his name Brent?"

Neal chuckles. "You know, I believe you're right."

When Neal knocks on Peter's door the next morning, there's a breathing mirror standing next to him and Peter's got two of them to deal with.

Neal and Brent can't stop smiling because the world is new and shining, and they've both got second chances.

Wow, this is crazy good. Only thing that could ever possibly make it better would be a bit of Chuck/Bryce :-D

I can only imagine Peter's reaction to seeing two of them.
