Dean drew in a deep breath, turning slowly in a circle as he looked around him. He did it again, frowning. "Hey....Cas? How--"

And Cas laughed -- honest to goodness laughed -- and gently turned him around. "Look," he whispered in Dean's ear, pointing.

Dean felt his jaw slam open as he watched the Earth rise majestically above the horizon.

He heard the soft voice in his ear. "All that beauty...."

".....yeah......."

"You're breathing because I am protecting you."

"....okay......"

"Dean?"

".......yeah......"

"Are you ready to get back to Sam?"

"........mind if I......can I just....."

A soft laugh huffed in his ear and the protecting arms around his waist tightened for just a second. "Take all the time you need, Dean. We have all the time in the world."

"......thanks......."

And Dean fell silent, watching the Earth slowly rise in the black sky and feeling the wonder of knowing that his bootprints would never leave the surface of the moon.

Cas had been right.

A change of perspective was all it took.

He stands for a moment, looking over the broom and the shotgun with careful consideration. In the end, he chooses the broom.

He gives the ceiling two hard smacks and is rewarded with a loud thunk from above. "Separate sides of the bed, boys! And that bed better not so much as creak the rest of the night."

He's happy for them, alright. That doesn't mean he's going to listen to it.

He's not gonna be the one to wash those sheets either.

Dean froze when he felt the lean body under him hiss. "What'd I do?"

"Nothing," Castiel groaned. "Just....can't get comfortable." He writhed a little. "Perhaps if you lost twenty pounds...."

"Oh. very funny." Dean resumed his work. "Shit, you've got a lotta blood here."

"And you have a limited amount of time."

"Right, I know." He winced. "Sam's gonna kick my ass for doin' this. After all I ragged on him about his demon blood drinking...."

"Dean. I needed help. This way, you can look at my wings and your eyes are spared."

"Yeah, but I don't gotta like it. Sides, I don't like the way blood tastes."

"Good. Then this shall not become a habit."

"This better not become a habit, either." Dean deliberately tugged hard on one of the pinfeathers and Castiel let out a groaning gasp. "Point taken?"

"Point....taken." Castiel groaned. "How much....longer?"

"Got one almost done. About to move to the other."

"Good."

Five minutes later, Dean ran his palm along the top of one of the gleaming black wings. "That one's done."

Castiel folded it down with a relieved groan. Dean shifted position on his back and when Castiel felt the cloth and comb working doggedly on the second wing's feathers, he said, "Dean?"

"Mm?"

"Thank you."

"Yeah, well, that's what friends do." He pressed the palm of his hand where the wing seamlessly jointed into Castiel's back. "Now hush and let me get this done before this damned thing wears off."

"Mmm."

"Cas?"

Silence.

"Cas, did you go to sleep on me?"

A soft sigh was his only reply.

Dean chuckled and continued to work on the wing. He only had three hours left, and it was a huge mass of bloody feathers to clean up.
