Tuesday: Time Travel

Good morning, everyone! It’s Tuesday today, and it’s [livejournal.com profile] meteorfire here with the latest theme.

Today it’s all about Time Travel. Did someone fall into the past? Has a dastardly scientist figured out how to travel to the future? What about testing the limits of the Grandfather Paradox?

Here's some quick examples:
  • Doctor Who, Doctor, he encounters the last person he would expect to encounter—himself as a child.
  • The Walking Dead, any, He (or she) thought this day would never end. And then it started all over again.
  • The Walking Dead, Sophia, one minute she’s lost in the woods, and the next she’s miles away and back on the highway watching Atlanta burn
  • Merlin BBC, Merlin/Arthur, A spell sends them back into the bodies of their younger selves—and its irreversible. All they can do now is make things better. (Whether or not Arthur knows about Merlin’s magic is optional, but make the older selves from season 4 or hypothetical later seasons)
  • Sherlock BBC, John, he seems to be living a real-life version of The Time Traveller’s Wife

And as always, remember to follow the rules:
  • Only three prompts from a fandom
  • Only five prompts in a row
  • If one prompt gets filled you can leave a new one
  • No spoilers in your prompts until a week after airdate/publication
  • If your fill contains a spoiler please warn accordingly and leave space for the spoiler.

Have fun, everyone!

Forgive me if this is slightly off. I've never written The Mentalist fanfic before.

Patrick's in a facility for the criminally insane. He's finally killed Red John. He thinks he can be happy here, or at least content. But Lisbon would much rather he were on the outside, and these days he likes to give Lisbon as much as he can. So he's speaking to one of his many doctors, trying to prove to her that he's no longer a threat to society.

"If you could change one moment in your life, which one would you choose?" she asks him.

Patrick thinks it's a strange question. She could only be expecting one answer. She is expecting it, he can tell.

Instead, he is transported back to the 1980s. He's a teenager. There's a girl. One day she'll become his wife. But now he's just a boy living under his father's thumb.

The moment that Patrick wishes he could take back is upon him. He doesn't wish that he'd never met his wife-to-be. He doesn't wish that he'd never become a psychic.

He wishes he'd never let his father bully him into something he didn't want to do. He wishes he'd never let his father show him how easily morals could be compromised. He wishes he'd never begun to think people were just things to be played with.

Patrick wishes he'd never scammed a dying girl and her grandmother.

But he doesn't say that to this woman he doesn't trust. Instead he says, "It's obvious, isn't it? I wish I'd never taunted Red John on television."

Thank you very much. I honestly though nobody would be interested.

Frankly, I am always surprised by the things that interest me in the prompts. I never thought I'd write 'The Mentalist' fanfic.

A good day for both of us then :-)
