Friday: Grownup Time

Happy Friday, everyone! Loosen the tie and kick off the heels. I'm still [livejournal.com profile] argentum_ls, and I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the weekend. I'll bet our favorite grownup characters are too. Today's theme is grownup time.

For those fandoms normally centered around teens and kids, let's take today to give some love to the adults in their lives. Alternatively, let's see what those kids are like in a decade or two when they've had a chance to grow up a bit. For those fandoms that are already centered on the adults, let's take today to see what they're like out of the office, away from the boss (or the underlings, if they are the boss), and off the clock.

The rules:
No more than three prompts to a single fandom
No more than five prompts at a time
No spoilers in the prompts and if your fill has spoilers, please warn and and leave at least three spaces

Format:
Fandom, Character, Prompt
Fandom, Character/Character, Prompt

Examples:

Teen Wolf, Coach Finstock, "Teachers don't live in the goddamn lockers."

The Listener, Toby+/Olivia, dancing

Any, Any+/Any, an expected night off

None of these prompts begging you to spend time with them? Check out the lonely prompts.

Happy weekend, and thanks for great week!

Supernatural, Ben, with Dean Winchester as (surrogate) father his life only could end on the road and in the hunting buisness, he reflects later

Fill-Always going to be this way

Looking back, it was obvious. Dean had tried. He really had. But his step dad had grown up in the hunting business. So even when he left it behind, he didn't really. For all his mom knew, Dean had given up hunting when he'd moved in with them. But if it was one thing Ben had learned (and he'd learned more), his mother could sometimes be oblivious to things she didn't want to know about.

Like the fact that there were a stash of guns, knives and Hunting equipment stashed in the hidden compartment of the trunk of the Impala. And sure, that was under a dustcover. But Ben had caught Dean drinking a beer and staring at the garage where the Impala lay. And he wouldn't use the car, but he wouldn't sell it.

Whenever Ben had expressed interest in anything anything at all to do with Hunting, Dean had shut him down so fast. Maybe that had been part of it, Ben had to acknowledge as he pressed hard down on the gut wound that was slowly seeping blood. Of course, the man'd also been straight with him in a way no one else ever was. He was terrified that Ben would have the same childhood as Dean himself had (impossible-he had a mother, he went to school in the same town every year, and Dean stayed with them), terrified that somehow he would, by presence alone, force Ben into a Hunter's life (well, ok, that was sort of true), terrified that the supernatural would catch up with him and Lisa and kill them before Dean could protect them.

It had taken a really long time to convince Dean to train him. At first under the premise that if Dean weren't there, Ben should be able to protect Lisa. After a while, Dean had thrown his hands up in the air and stopped fighting the fact that Ben was going to become a hunter.

He'd hurt his mom when he'd expressed his need to hunt. They didn't talk much anymore, which was a damn shame. He wasn't sure how Dean and her were doing. She hadn't exactly been happy that Ben had followed in Dean's footsteps, no matter that Dean had fought him the entire way.

He gasped as he increased pressure. It'd been a while since he'd been sliced open and he'd forgotten just how much it hurt. But if he survived this wound, he still wouldn’t give up Hunting. Something about it called to him, pulled in his blood. Maybe it was the look in Dean’s eyes whenever he talked about some monster he and Sam had killed once or maybe it was the idea that he was part of an elite club of people who saved the world and no one else knew what was happening. He wasn’t really sure. All he knew was that he was addicted and Hunting was his drug.

“I’m here. I’m here, kid, I’ve got you.”

“Dean..” Ben felt his head loll to the side a little, staring over at his stepfather. The man was older, moved slower, but he was still a damn good hunter.

“Damn it, Ben. Lisa’s going to kill you.”

“Not sure..”

“Don’t even think of it. Seen you come back from worse by now.” Ben blinked, finally letting the pain overcome, sink him into a fog. “Oh geez, Ben. Stop letting your guard down. I’m old. I can’t baby you forever. Get your ass up and we’re getting to the car and going to the hospital.” A sharp jab to the ribs, near his wound had him flying awake and pulling himself, leaning heavily on Dean. “You know, I’m not going to be here to save your ass all the time.”

This was Dean’s way of saying he loved him, no matter what. Ben knew that now and he just smiled as he leaned heavily on the man as they made their way out of the warehouse to the Impala.

Oh truth! I was writing under the assumption that a. Sam never came back and b. Dean stuck around with Lisa and didn't actually hunt that much, hence his surviving for another 15 years.
