Well, I'm glad it makes so sort of sense, even without knowing the canon. (Tauriel's an elf Captain of the Guard in an elven realm, a commoner; Kili is the second heir of a dwarf kingdom. Even if he wasn't doomed to die by canon, they probably wouldn't have gotten a happy ending. Alas.)
And, as to writing... it was either this or begin editing 400 pages of appendices. *shrugs* No contest, really.
