Fullmetal Alchemist, Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye, "Words"

They didn't say the words 'be careful'. Riza watched his back. Roy took the lead. There might be others around them, keeping them safe, or there might not be. It depended on the mission.

It depended on how dangerous it was.

One of the others might say 'be careful'. Fuery, most likely. Even though he knew better.

Roy didn't need the reminder. Riza didn't need to say the words outloud. There were other ways to communicate - a glance, a nod, the softest of hums. The way Riza took him down in the street to keep Scar from killing him (to keep his secrets from so many possible opponents later).

Saying things didn't always make them true. Words could be twisted (Roy was a master at it) into so many different meanings. "Be careful" could only be used in the least dangerous situations. Much like words of love which couldn't be used at all.
