Monday: Domestic Bliss

Hi! I’m [livejournal.com profile] brumeier, and this week we’re going to be tackling some daily life themes! Today's theme is DOMESTIC BLISS! Let’s explore the day-to-day things that bring our characters happiness.

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, the best part of the day is coming back together at the end of it

+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any, saving the world is good, but working around their house when they have downtime is better

+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, family game night

+ Any, Any, moving in together

We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.

While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Bruce was confused when he stepped into the Batcave and heard bouncy pop music playing, mostly because he couldn’t understand it. And then he really listened and realized.

It was Korean music. K-pop, to be exact.

He followed the source of the music across the cave to a little workspace that was all inflatable dorm room furniture and milk crates. Barry was hunched over a magnifying glass on a stand, wielding a soldering iron.

It took Barry a moment to notice him, and he started, nearly burned himself. “Bruce. Hey! Just taking a break. From my apartment. You know how I am about people. And roommates. But mostly people.”

“I do know,” Bruce said. “Just clean up after yourself when you’re done.”

“Will do,” Barry said.

Bruce went to work on some more designs for signals for all of the Justice League. When he was finished, Barry was gone, his little workspace collapsed into three crates, one full of his soldering gear, one full of folded-up deflated furniture, and one with a little bluetooth speaker and charging cords for it and a smartphone.

Bruce stared down at them for a moment, then shrugged. They weren’t in the way. And he was prepared, the next time he came to the cave and heard K-pop playing softly in the corner.

Bruce was wary when he stepped into the Batcave and there were about a dozen more LCD flatpanel displays arranged in Barry’s little workspace corner. There was no K-pop music playing. There was heavy metal music playing. Background music for a video game. Barry was playing the game, but he wasn’t alone. Victor was beside him.

“Hey,” Barry protested. They were both sitting on milk crates. “This game is strictly hands only.”

“I am playing hands only,” Victor replied calmly. “I am just better at video games than you are.”

“We’ll see about that.”

“No super-speed either,” Victor added.

“No point. Video games aren’t fast enough for me.” Barry sighed noisily.

Bruce watched them play for a moment, then turned away, focused on his own work. So Barry was making himself comfortable. Bruce knew what it was like to grow up without parents, further isolated from his peers by his own brilliance and other life circumstances. If Barry wanted to spend time at the Batcave with what few friends he had, Bruce wouldn’t give him a hard time about it.

He was surprised, however, when he came to the Batcave one time and Victor was there by himself, sitting on a milk crate and watching the dozen screens all at once, soaking up the information.

“You have a father,” Bruce said, a little stupidly.

“And sometimes we need space from each other,” Victor said.

Bruce didn’t understand that, but he’d heard other people say it, so he said, finally, “You might want to think about a more comfortable chair. If you’re going to be here long.”

Victor nodded. “Don’t worry. Diana’s on it.”

“Diana?” Bruce echoed, but he supposed he shouldn’t have asked.

When he next stepped into his Batcave, Barry was hunched over another soldering project, but this time he was sitting on a proper rolling chair at a heavy, handsome desk, all dark wood and fine carving. The desk was on a nice rug. Victor was sitting in a comfy leather armchair, gazing at his television screens. There was an end table with an elegant lamp, a reproduction of a Venus de Milo beside it.
Diana was nowhere to be seen.

Bruce felt a little - stark, uncivilized, sitting at his glass-and-steel worktable, bathed in the blue glow of his computer monitors.

When he arrived in the Batcave one day and there was a massive, ornately decorated surfboard propped against one wall, and Arthur was tucked onto a suede sectional between Barry and Victor while they battled at video games and Diana looked on in amusement, he supposed he could no longer deny it: the others were nesting.

The piece of crystal from Clark’s Fortress of Solitude, though, resting on Barry’s worktable like an innocuous paperweight, was the last straw.

It’s not one of my usual fandoms but your prompt inspired me to step out of my comfort zone. Thank you. And you are welcome!
