They have this... thing. He didn't take too much notice of it when he was growing up, but here - now, as an outsider - it's hard not to see it. And he doesn't get it. He reasons it out in his mind that it's because they're women and he's never understood women so he'll never understand this. But even as he thinks it he knows its not true.
