Gensomaiden Saiyuki - originally a manga based on the Asian tale, Journey to the West. This story is filled with very pretty young men; Goku's mental age is debatable - teenish? - compared to the other characters. And Goku was punished by being sent away from Heaven and placed in that stone cavern. Sanzo, a reincarnation of one of his dearest friends from Heaven, eventually finds and rescues him.
