Terrifying Tuesday: Deadly Games
Oct. 13th, 2020 12:01 amHello, everyone! I’m
sherlockian_syn and this week is full of spooky themes! Today's theme is deadly games. Prompts can be anything related to someone fighting for their life or sanity for the twisted amusement of others. Examples of this would be the Hunger Games series, the Saw movie franchise, or the Zero Escape video game trilogy. Would anybody like to play a game...? ;)
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, Team Sheppard, the team is forced to play a game for their lives after getting captured offworld
+ Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes (+/ John Watson), John has been kidnapped and Sherlock must follow the culprit's every instruction to get John back alive
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark +/ any, Tony is forced to reap what he has sown
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2020 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2020-10-13 02:42 pm (UTC)And then a painfully stylish young woman with sleek black hair stepped into the room with a veritable army of cameramen and another army of assistants carrying boxes upon boxes of camping supplies - had her camera team been camping in the hotel room hallway waiting for this interview? She perched in the interviewer’s chair and shook out her waterfall of hair and smiled her blindingly white smile.
“Hello! I’m Nam Minah from Koreaboo Magazine. It’s such an honor to meet The Avengers in person.”
“Thank you,” Steve said graciously. “What’s your question?”
Nam Minah’s smile sparkled. “Our readers would like to know who’s stronger, Sam Wilson or Clint Barton. To that end, we’d like you to play a game of Steal the Princesses. We’ve brought supplies.”
Steve blinked. “Pardon?”
Nam Minah waved a hand, and her assistants sprang into action, unfurling a series of sleeping bags emblazoned with pink crowns.
“Everyone else is a princess,” Nam Minah said.
Two more assistants set out what looked like wrestling mats on opposite sides of the room.
Nam Minah pointed to one. “This is Sam’s castle, and -” she pointed to the other - “and this is Clint’s castle. You must put as many princesses as possible in your castles. You may steal princesses from your opponent’s castle.”
The assistants set the sleeping bags in a neat row in the middle of the room.
“Who are the princesses, exactly?” Peter Parker asked, raising his hand like he was asking a teacher a question in class.
“Everyone else.” Nam Minah smiled another blinding smile.
Thor rose and stepped out of his boots. “I am a King of Valhalla, but today, for Koreaboo Magazine, I will be a princess.” And he crawled into one of the sleeping bags.
After a moment, Peter Parker followed. Bucky arched his eyebrows at Sam, then also kicked off his shoes and followed.
Steve supposed that the challenge was only fair; none of the super-powered people were doing the challenge.
“Seriously?” Sam hissed.
But Clint was rolling his shoulders and shaking out his limbs.
“We can’t move on to our next interview till its done,” Stephen said, unfastening his cloak.
Natasha smirked and said, “Call me princess.”
At first Sam and Clint battled to steal the lightest princesses - Carol, Pepper, Natasha, Peter Parker, Wanda. But then the battle was to steal the bigger princesses - Stephen, Vision, Peter Quill, Scott. The challenge seemed straightforward, but then Sam captured Bucky, and while he was trying to capture Thor, Bucky started inchworming his way across the hotel room to Clint’s castle out of spite, and some of Sam’s other princesses started shouting in protest, but Clint’s princesses started cheering, and chaos ensued.
When Nam Minah called time, Sam and Clint were exhausted, the princesses had started fighting each other, and there was no clear winner.
But at least the interview hadn't been boring.

Date: 2020-10-13 06:02 pm (UTC)“Clock ticking down.” Ronon spun, searching.
“How do we get out of here?” Rodney asked.
“You heard our captors,” Teyla said. “We must complete the tasks in the allotted time if we want to escape the chamber alive.”
John took a deep breath. “How much time do we have?”
The death chamber they’d been dropped into after the local leader had decided he was mad at them had smooth black walls and a circular floor. For all that the planet had seemed technologically backward, they had enough technology to have a death chamber with really terrifying acoustics.
A panel in the wall slid back, revealing a series of swaying pendulums, beads on strings, and turning cogs that was the source of the ticking.
“I have no idea how much time we have left,” Rodney said.
Ronon said, “We have three hours.”
“What?” John said.
Ronon pointed to the beads but didn’t touch them. “It’s a math problem.”
“Like an abacus?” John said.
“Sure,” Ronon said. “Miko uses something like that to do math.”
“Three hours isn’t so bad, right?” Rodney said. “Right?”
Only the panel crashed shut, and then another slid open to reveal a pedestal displaying -
“A stick and a string?” John asked.
Teyla scooped them up. “A bow and a string.”
“And an arrow,” Rodney pointed out, though he was careful not to touch it.
John cast about the chamber. “What’s the point of those? No pun intended.”
Ronon pointed above them. “Someone has to make that shot.”
Teyla scooped up the bow and arrow, strung the bow in a single smooth motion and a surprising bulge of her biceps. “I can make that shot.”
“Do it fast,” John said.
Teyla drew, aimed, and fired. Hit the center of the bullseye. The panel with the bow and arrow pedestal slid shut.
Another opened.
“What is that?” Rodney asked.
“It’s a musical instrument,” Ronon said.
As if on cue, a strange melody started to play.
John winced at the discordant sound, but the little melody played again and again, an irritating loop.
“How does the musical instrument work?” Rodney asked.
Ronon handed Rodney the mallet, showed Rodney how to strike the metal parts - and it was the same instrument that had created that weird little melody.
Teyla cringed, her shoulders up around her ears.
“Not your vibe?” John asked.
“I find the sound unpleasant,” she admitted. Her grip on the bow was white-knuckled.
Ronon said, “Tick-tock.”
“That’s my line,” Rodney protested, but he began tapping at the metal keys. After three iterations, he’d recreated the melody -
And the melodic loop stopped.
Rodney barely managed to snatch his hand off of the mallet before the panel slammed shut.
“Now what?” he asked. “Are we free?”
The chamber rumbled, and the ground shook, and the walls slid down. No. The ground was sliding upward. Up high but not quite far enough that they could climb out.
John scanned the walls, the floor, calculated. He laced his hands together. “I’ll boost you up.”
“What?” Ronon asked.
“If you jump a little,” John said.
“I’m stronger than you,” Ronon said.
“And I’ll need you to pull me out,” John said.
Ronon considered, nodded. John crouched, and Ronon got a bit of a running start, and launched himself off of John’s hands. Ronon helped Rodney up, and Teyla launched herself up, and then Ronon pulled John up.
The four of them assembled themselves in front of the local leader’s throne.
The local leader stared at them, then looked at his own timepiece.
He cleared his throat. “Well. That was - unexpected. Do you still wish to trade?”
“I’d rather go back to Atlantis,” Rodney muttered, but Teyla said,
“We do.”
