Loved all the pop-culture references (the blue eye shadow!!!), although it makes me sad that even in 1983 a black man wasn't allowed to swim in a public pool during regular hours. Sounds like this was in the South? But I love how you ran with the prompt, with John doing things deliberately to piss off his dad. Fantastic ficlet! <3
