Good morning everyone and welcome to a new week, I know I know, not always the most fun day of the week but let's do our best to combat that with some awesome tidbits of fic. Todays theme is First Words which means your prompt should contain the first words of the following ficlet. So when you want to fill a prompt you just begin with what the prompter left you and go from there, easy as pie.
The rules are as always as follows:

"Sorry darling. This is a one way trip." He strips out of the radiation suit because really, why bother. "I've activated the mauve alert, you're programed for a shipping lane. Someone will find you really soon Mailene." Her eyes are startlingly blue behind the fringe of silver hair falling down in her face. "In fact, someone very specific should pick you up as soon as it starts broadcasting."
"I don't *want* them to! Please Jack, just get in!" She's crying now. Great gulping sobs as she presses her forehead to sealed hatch. "Please don't leave me alone Jack?"
"Mailene." He rests his head on the outer hatch wall next to hers. "The auto systems are gone. If I leave it keeps course and crashes into a planet. I stay and there's enough fuel left to steer this raggedy bucket into the symphonian belt, crash it on an asteroid there."
"It's a hydrogen drive Jack! Can you walk away from that?!"
"I hope not." He grins widely and presses his fingers to his lips and then to the glass over her forehead. "Long days of sun, long nights of sleep Mailene Demarrange."
"Stop! Jack plea..." The sound cuts abruptly as the heel of his palm slams against the emergency eject button. Turning his back on the now empty airlock, The immortal walks slowly back to the bridge and takes manual control.
"Alright punkin, we had a good run. Now show daddy you love him and blow me so far to the solar winds that there's nothing left."

Date: 2010-09-21 07:32 am (UTC)“Tell me a story, the one where the dragon gets slayed and the knight lives happily ever after.” Tim sobbed, clinging to the front of Roy’s shirt. His gloves were still wet with blood but he couldn’t let go long enough to shed them. “Tell me happy endings exist.”
“They do, babybird. Just...” Just not for us. Not always. He wrapped his arms around his young lover and pulled him close. There were no words for this, no comfort. They choose the life and the costs that came with it.
“I tried, I tried but I couldn’t...I just wasn’t fast enough. I should have been-”
But Roy cut him off with a kiss. The fact Tim was mourning and no brooding was a start at least but he couldn’t be allowed to blame himself. “There was nothing you could have done Tim. Don’t hurt yourself over this.”
Tim drowned a sob by kissing Roy, hungry and desperate.
They both knew how this would play out - Roy would let Tim take what he needed, would let him fuck himself into oblivion and then weep till he slept. In the morning Roy would wake Tim with sweet kisses and made love to him, slow and tender till he was calm again. Then Tim would go home and face Batman. He would write the condolence letter he would never send to a family who would never hold their daughter again. She would become another civilian they couldn’t save but Tim would never forget her name.
The knight didn’t always win, the dragon didn’t always get slayed and maiden didn’t always get rescued in time. But they always tried and that was what mattered.
