She’s brash. And brazen. And, in her own way, every bit as cocky as Hardison.
Which is just what he needs, right? One more person on the team who thinks she knows it all and doesn’t need to listen to the grumpy guy whose job it is to pull her ass out of the fire.
She does swing a mean iron, though, gotta give her that.
And it is a very nice ass.
Not that he’s noticed. Much.
Admit it, you kinda like me now.
He might, though there’s no way in hell he’s admitting it. At least, not out loud. But there are worse things to do in this world than watch a strong, intelligent, competent woman at work, and he’s not fool enough to pass up that pleasure. She’s a professional, with the skills they need (hell, she’d conned all of them at first, hadn’t she?), and, as a professional himself, he can appreciate that.
Appreciate her.
She’s not Sophie, has none of Sophie’s softness or smooth gentility … but, hell, she’s not Parker, either. She’s tough, cool, hard-edged and razor sharp … and completely sane.
Always a plus, right?
She also has a natural talent for irritating Nate, which is more than a little amusing. Nate might be a genius, but he’s an arrogant sonofabitch with frequent lapses into outright assholery, and any time his balloon gets popped is prime entertainment. And, frankly, it’s nice having someone else around to call him on his bullshit. Hardison is still too young and still a bit too impressed by the man’s brilliance, and Parker is just too … Parker. Keeping the team safe, even from Nate’s excesses, might be his job, but he’ll take all the help he can get.
Especially from someone with Tara’s ass … assets.
She clearly knows her way around a con, though he has a very strong suspicion that’s not really her training. He also suspects he knows where she got her training, suspects it was from much the same place he got his. They’re more alike than they are different, which probably explains why they work so well together. They seem to understand each other, which is kind of … nice.
Admit it, you kinda like me now.
He won’t admit it, not in a million years. At least, not out loud.
But he will put up with the brass and the sass and the attitude, grumble when she doesn’t listen to him and snicker when she pricks Nate, and go on pulling her ass out of the fire when what he really what he wants to do is knock her flat on it. Because she’s part of the team now, part of the family, and keeping her safe, even from herself, is part of his job.
