When Myungjun asked what Bin had planned for their date, the only response he received was, “You’ll see.” It was cryptic, but also rather exciting. Myungjun knew, too, that Bin had probably put his all into planning their first date. Bin seemed cute and romantic and a bit head-over-heels, and so Myungjun was excited. When the evening of their date came, he dressed well and combed his hair back and applied his skincare more rigorously than normal. His heart hammered the entire time, the nerves getting the best of him, even if Myungjun tried to remind himself that he and Bin had been friends for months and so he shouldn’t be nervous.

He was still incredibly nervous and was almost jittering when Bin knocked on his door.

“Coming!” Myungjun called out, giving himself one last look in the mirror before hurrying to join Bin outside his apartment.

He smiled when he saw Bin, and Bin smiled right back at him. Bin was so handsome. Myungjun had seen him in suits before, as he always tried to look nice when he was managing his nightclub, but there was something about his glow that seemed different. He looked inexplicably happy, happier than Myungjun had ever seen him before.

“You look–” they both started at the same time, and it was Myungjun who devolved into a fit of giggles.

“Sorry,” Bin said, that sweet, dimpled smile lighting up his face. “You look amazing.”

“I was going to say the same thing,” Myungjun teased.

“I figured,” Bin replied. He cleared his throat and stepped back to allow Myungjun to close the door behind him, then he gestured. “I parked my car over at the garage. Are you ready?”

Myungjun nodded his head, and he was a bit taken back when Bin held out his hand. He stared at it for a few seconds before realizing Bin meant for him to grab it.

But just as he reached for it, Bin quickly drew back and cleared his throat for a second time.

“Sorry, I was just…I know you’re capable of walking on your…let’s go,” Bin stammered, his cheeks a bit red and his smile faltering some. Then he began to walk away, quickly, and Myungjun had to hurry in order to keep up with him.

Poor Bin. Myungjun thought he was a mess, but Bin was so scared and nervous – some of Myungjun’s own nerves were slipping away a bit as he realized that both of them couldn’t be this nervous. The date would never amount to anything if they walked into this as if they were no more than silly, awkward teenagers.

So Myungjun reached his hand out again and grabbed onto Bin’s hand. Bin stopped, looking over at him in shock. Myungjun merely smiled and squeezed Bin’s hand.

“I want you to hold my hand,” he said.

Bin took a sudden breath and then grinned. “I…yeah, I wanted to hold your hand. I’m just…” He shook his head. “God, I feel so nervous. I’ve been on tons of dates before, but this– I mean, not tons of dates. A regular amount of dates. But it’s not…I don’t mean to talk about my dates on our date – you know what, we should just get to the car, right?”

He was so nervous that it was endearing. Bin had always been rather suave and charismatic – to see him suffering in such a manner was rather cute.

Myungjun obliged his request instead of teasing him further, but in order to keep some form of conversation going, he asked, “What’s the plan?”

“I had a lot of plans, actually. I had to cut it back a bit. First I think dinner at this Italian restaurant that opened down the road from your bakery, and then I wanted to go for some drinks at this really nice bar, and then if you’re up for it I book us a karaoke room, and after that I thought we could maybe walk alongside the river, since that’s pretty romantic, and I tried to hire someone to bring us dessert but I didn’t know how to hire someone for that, so I bought dessert and it’s just in my car, so we can grab it–” He took another breath and then laughed. “It’s, um…a lot.”

It was a lot. Bin really had some quixotic plans. “How long is this night supposed to last?” Myungjun wondered aloud. So much for not teasing Bin.

“Hopefully forever,” Bin murmured, smiling over at Myungjun. “We’ll just…we’ll get to what we can get to and save the rest for another time, yeah?”

That made it clear Bin was opening them both up for more dates. Myungjun liked the sound of that, and so he grinned and nodded his head.

“Though I really do want to try the dessert on the river.”

“It probably isn’t that good. I mean, it isn’t…you’re a baker so– dammit, hold on,” Bin muttered just as his phone started ringing. He pulled it from his back pocket and looked at the name – Myungjun peeked over out of curiosity and saw Lee Dongmin on the screen.

“Isn’t that the club manager?” Myungjun asked before realizing he probably shouldn’t have been snooping in the first place.

But Bin didn’t seem to mind. He merely nodded as he pocketed his phone again. “Yeah. He’ll leave a voicemail and I’ll call him back. He’s fine.”

Myungjun trusted that Dongmin was fine, but when they got to the restaurant and sat down, Bin’s phone rang again. Once more, Bin checked it and then put it away. And then again, once they received their entrees, Dongmin called.

When Dongmin wasn’t calling, the phone was vibrating incessantly with texts, all of which Bin did his best to ignore. Myungjun could see him tense, though, as he drank his wine and pushed his phone further away for him as if that would cease the noise.

Myungjun was rather curious, and a bit worried that there was a legitimate problem at the nightclub. “You should answer that,” he murmured.

Bin bit his lip. “No. We’re on a date. You’re my top priority.”

“Yeah, but…it’s your nightclub. What if something happened?” When Bin still didn’t seem convinced, Myungjun said, “What if the building caught on fire and the fire spread to my bakery? I’d be pissed.”

“I think it’s more likely that your bakery would catch fire and spread to my nightclub–”

“Answer the phone.”

Bin sighed, but he did as Myungjun asked. He picked up on the next ring and snapped, “What, Dongmin, I’m on a date. Yes, with Myungjun. I told you I’d be out with Myungjun. I didn’t…no, I ordered eleven boxes. How many did they deliver?”

Myungjun thought it sounded boring, so he busied himself by snatching up some garlic bread.

“Just…I dunno, call the supplier and tell them we need more boxes. The number’s on my desk. I know it’s a mess, just…I can deal with it when I get back. No, I’m not coming back tonight. I’m on a date. I told you I was– no, I’m not bringing my date to the nightclub so I can deal with such a minor issue. No, Myungjun will not bake you those cupcakes that you like because you’re ruining my date.”

And then he whispered, “I’m going to kill you if you call me again…okay, you can call me if there’s an actual emergency. No, the boxes were not an actual – sure, I’ll tell him. Stop calling.” Bin hung up with a huff and set his phone down again. He took a sip of wine and looked at Myungjun, who was smiling widely.

“Dongmin says hi,” Bin mumbled.

“So, no fire?” Myungjun asked.

“Not yet.”

“Just…an order wasn’t right?”

Bin looked pained. “He’s overly organized and stresses easily.” He picked at his food. “I’m sorry. This date’s not going at all like I had planned.”

Myungjun, though, was completely unbothered. Watching Bin argue with his manager had been funny and had definitely seemed so Bin-like. He was so cute and funny, but when he took work calls, the look in his eyes was determined and serious and passionate.

“We have, like, twenty more hours of this date left,” Myungjun assured Bin. “I mean, with all that you planned I think this night needs to be longer than–”

Bin groaned and slumped over in his seat. “Stop teasing me!”

Myungjun laughed. “Sorry, just…you’re so easy to tease! And you’re, um…you’re really cute when I tease you.”

“Cute?” Bin perked up at that. “You think I’m cute?”

He wanted to give a sly answer, something like, Only when I tease you, but that wasn’t necessarily true. Bin was cute all the time. And the extravagant date he had planned, while impractical, was just so sweet and thoughtful and – damn, Bin was the cutest person he had ever met in his entire life.

“The cutest,” he responded.

And for the rest of the (extremely long) night, Bin didn’t seem nearly as nervous.

He also turned his phone off, which was a bonus.
