“Hello, my secret boyfriend.” Rosie smiled and raised her champagne flute. She was sipping out of it very slowly, because she needed to keep her head on straight. This was a high-profile fashion event, and maybe other attendees could afford to get a little sloshed, but she needed to be on her best behavior ahead of her new album’s release.
Dongmin, standing in her vicinity but not close enough to be considered next to her, lifted his own champagne flute and took barely the tiniest of sips from it, and he kept it up near his mouth to conceal the words he spoke quietly. “Please, continue to make jokes like that and put my life in danger.”
“You think your fans would really threaten your life if they found out you were dating me?” Rosie spotted a reporter aiming a camera her way, and she posed and smiled.
“I think my teammate, who is your real boyfriend and is also a fourth-degree black belt who was regional champion three years running and a national competitor, would kill me if an official story was released that said I was dating you.” Dongmin turned away from her and ducked his chin slightly, affecting one of his signature aloof expressions.
Rosie pretend to sip some more champagne. “Ah, but he knows I love only him, and half of the beauty of our relationship is that no one would ever believe we’re dating.”
Dongmin arched an eyebrow. “That’s not exactly a compliment to my teammate, who I deeply respect and admire.”
“And fear,” Rosie said.
“And fear,” Dongmin confirmed, without wavering an iota as he posed for a photo for yet another photographer.
“But I’m not dating him because he’s popular. I’m dating him because he’s strong and flexible and has stamina for days —”
Dongmin drained the rest of his champagne flute in a single swallow. “Please stop talking.”
“I’m talking about his musical performance skills in singing and dancing.” Rosie flashed a sweet, innocent smile at a couple of designers who wanted her to wear their gowns at her next big public appearance. “I don’t know what think I was talking about, but I’m sure it’s highly inappropriate for a public setting like this. Tsk tsk, Lee Dongmin. I thought you were a professional.”
He was, in fact, a consummate professional, a model and actor and television personality with an army of loyal and rabid fans.
But he was also fun to tease now and again.
“Give my best to your teammate, hm?” Rosie raised her glass in salute and then turned and walked away, cautious in her expensive heels and trailing gown.
The next morning, articles abounded about how she and Dongmin had been spotted near each other at the same big event — the third such time in three years — and obviously they were engaged in a secret superstar whirlwind romance.
While she was scanning the new roundup email from her team on her phone, she received a text message from her boyfriend.
MiNyeoKi: What happened at the show last night between you and Dongmin-hyung?
Attached was a screenshot of what appeared to be messages exchanged between Dongmin and Minhyuk.
DingDongMin: I saw your girlfriend last night at an event
DingDongMin: We just happened to be standing kind of near each other for a few moments
DingDongMin: Please don’t kill me
Me: ???
Rosie laughed and sent back a reply, It’s just the dating rumors again.
Minhyuk’s response was, Those rumors will shield us forever. Have fun in Paris. See you when you get back. Love you.
Rosie didn’t understand why Dongmin thought Minhyuk was scary at all. He was sweet and affectionate and hardworking, and he always showered her with love and attention.
Maybe one day Minhyuk would let her see his childhood taekwondo sparring videos and then she’d understand. Till then, she’d give Dongmin a hard time once in a while, just to keep him down-to-earth.
