Mary put on her earrings and the diamond necklace her husband gave her, a special present for their first year anniversary today. There was a time when she couldn't have imagined a life so quiet, so without danger and demons. She'd finally gotten away, out of the dangers of the secret world she left behind. She still missed her parents, but there was a part of her that wouldn't trade this life for anything.
It was just all so wonderful, like a dream.
She loved John, and John adored her to no end. That much was certain.
She barely even thought of the deal she made with the demon anymore, or whether it really would come collect her in a few more years. All her life she dreamed of living a normal life with a beautiful house and a loving husband; maybe a child or two soon. They would be together, they would be a family.
She heard John at the doorway of the bedroom. Glancing up from her dresser, she was a vision of grace in her new black dress, all made up pretty for him. Mary smiled. “Do I dazzle you?”
