The angels have burned themselves up, and all Castiel wants to do is smoke weed. Technically speaking yes, it's the end of the world, but Cas can do whatever he wants. He's free, now.

He can go and look at a sunset, or suck someone's cock, or do any of the other thousand things that shocked him out of heaven's clutches and sent him tumbling down to this godforsaken - ha! - planet.

But he's so old, and so alone, that none of that seems to matter any more. For all of Dean's bluster and bravado, he's just a child, and though the rest of his angelic power is gone he can still feel it when Dean shuts himself in his shack and cries. It's one of the side-effects of that profound bond thing, and it breaks Cas's heart.

Dean's a child, wronged by the universe and still trying to set it to rights for everyone else. He asks if Cas will come with him on this mission, says he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to.

Means, this is it, Cas, and you know it.

Castiel says he wouldn't miss it for the world.

The brunette was dressed well, heels, dress slacks and all: the badge clipped to her belt and the sidearm fallen from her hand looked real, but the orange sticker on the stock and the laser pointer in the muzzle were a dead giveaway.

The bullet holes in her chest however, were very real and very bloody.

"You're going to love this one, Castle," Beckett said, holding up a frayed mass-market paperback copy of "Heat Rises" in a gloved hand. "Found this in the vic's pocket. Fangirl vigilante who got in too deep?"

"Whoa, if I was gonna snuff Nikki Heat, I was gonna send her out in a much more flashy way, not taking a handful of slugs to the chest," Castle said, almost rearing back from the body.

Supernatural, Crowley+/Gabriel, a successful contract is like pulling off a successful trick - you've got to give your victim a fighting chance, or at least the illusion of one.

Not my best work, but this one bit me and wouldn't let go.

Crowley is nursing his usual glass of scotch while Gabriel is drinking some ridiculously bright cocktail that mostly consists of sugar. They’re sat in a loveseat (which Crowley finds a little too obvious on Gabriel’s part) on top of a two-storey building. They have a perfect view of the action from their position: a man who is five times over the legal limit struggling to find his car keys as a group of youths approach him. When the man does finally find his keys he is five seconds too late. The youths have surrounded him and easily take the keys before beginning their game of torment.

“Don’t take this as a complaint,” Gabriel says as he loudly slurps his drink through a tiny straw, “but why are you here? I know you enjoy a bit of carnage every now and then, but I would have thought my tricks would be too low-brow for you. So why the interest?”

“If you’ll remember, I helped you plan this little set-up; I’m interested in how it all pans out.”

“That’s another thing I’m curious about. What’s this Joey kid got to do with you?”

“I’m currently trying to broker a deal with his father. The man has been dangling his soul in front of me for weeks and then backing out at the last minute. I’ve decided a new strategy is in order – use the son to get to the father.”

Gabriel frowns. “I’m not sure if I like my tricks being used to further your deals.”

Crowley gives the archangel a withering look. “Gabriel, we both punish people. Yours is an immediate act of poetic justice, mine is a long-term torment for eternity. The boy’s father is the sort of person you would love to play a trick on but, unfortunately for you, I got there first. And the boy is no saint. You’ve seen the way he tortures his classmates – he deserves to be a part of this. Don’t throw a fit now just because your trick will hopefully allow me to reach my monthly soul quota.”

Gabriel is still frowning as he turns his gaze to the scene below. The youths have attached the victim (an alcoholic who has two separate hit and runs under his belt and no intentions of fixing his problem) to the hood of the car. The man is gagged, and the youths are laughing as they pile into the car. Joey is in the back, shouting encouragements to his friends in the front.

The day is fair and pure; the breeze is quiet and light, and the sun shines nowhere near blinding, hot enough to give you a mild tan and keep your skin warm. Charles is enjoying the world, half asleep with his back on the dry grass and smile set to the cloudless sky.

A shadow falls over him, and the sudden lack of warmth is what causes Charles to slowly awaken and open his eyes. He's not surprised to see Erik standing over him, donning sunglasses and a lazy smirk.

"Very good," Charles comments, squinting at Erik. "I didn't hear you at all."

Erik grins, wolfish, and taps the side of his forehead with a finger.

"Join me," Charles says, patting the patch of ground beside him, and Erik acquiesces. As soon as Erik's comfortable, Charles pulls away the sunglasses and leans towards him for a gentle kiss that quickly turns hot and wanting.

"I can hear you," Charles whispers eventually, pulling back with a sparkle in his eyes. "And that certainly requires a bed."

Erik glares back. "You are a devious man, Charles Xavier," he says, but leans in to kiss Charles again anyway.
