Maggie smiled at the sheer chaos of her backyard. The kid's were engaged in a wild mix of Eliot's love of Westerns and Alec's love of Science Fiction. She was a little shocked to learn there was actually a show they were basing it off of. The had even gotten Sterling and his daughter Olivia to play along. Mark was playing someone named Badger. Who has hired the crew to steal a priceless statue and return it to him.
The statue was a Barbie doll that had seen better days since it's bloody battle eatlier in the day. She haddent gottent he full story but there had been a crying Sophie, a bottle of ketchup, half a dozen GI Joes, and a very sorry looking Eliot and Parker.
Placing a bowl of chips and a jar of mayo on the picnic table Maggie sat down and watched the kids play. It had been hard at first, seeing Nate like this. Having that living breathing reminder of Sam but it had gotten easier as the months past. Now she could enjoy all the children without the overwhelming urge to runaway and cry.
Maggie tried to keep the childrens 'names' straight as they played. Alec was Wash, Eliot and Nate seemed to switch back and forth as to who was Malcom and who was Jayne.. she noticed Nate was Malcome more often than not. Alec said Parker was Kayle but Parker insisted that she was Parker and no one else. Sophie was Inra and even Olivia played along as Zoe.
"Maggie!" Sterling called out and waved the spatula at her. Clearly needing help as the Crew were all tyring to get him to come play. Maggie took over at the grill flipping hamburgers and turning hotdogs.
Throwing her head back maggie laughed when 'Badger" refused to pay out the bag of skittles he's offered for the return of the statue. Some how the kids managed to drag Sterling to the ground. Eliot had managed to land on top. Sterling was laughing as he allowed himself to be pinned and Parker stole the candy from his shirt pocket. As the children began to back away Sterling scrambled to his feet and managed to grab Eliot swinging the little boy around before hoisting him up onto his shoulders and preceeding to chase the other kids around the yard.
The squeels of laughter and calls to be next to ride on Sterlings shoulders had Maggie thinking about the question Mark had asked Earlier that day. Looking down on the ring on her finger she smiled. They were already a family.. The ring was just icing in the cake.
Fill... I guess part 3
