Arthur woke early as he usually did, stretched luxuriously, and then slid from between the covers in order to make use of the chamber pot. As he bent to retrieve it from beneath the bed, his eyes landed on a small, blanket-covered lump at the far side of the mattress.

After relieving himself, Arthur circled the foot of the bed, angling his head as he gazed down at his newest and most loyal of knights. Wrapped in the bed covers like that, Mordred looked less a fearsome adversary and more the vulnerable druid boy that Arthur had once known.

Arthur reached out, smoothing the pad of his thumb over Mordred's slightly parted lips. With a sudden intake of breath, Mordred's eyes fluttered open. "My King..."

Smirking, Arthur bent over the bed, trapping Mordred in the bracket of his arms. "The day is yet young, Sir Mordred, but I think you are in need of another sword-handling lesson."
