Travelling to Venice for Carnevale was a terrible idea. Cristina's hand stung from the blow she had given to Ezio, and her eyes stung from the tears she refused to shed.
She wished Ezio had waited, all those years ago in Firenze: she would rather have shamed her family and run away to live in abject poverty than the comfort and wealth and security of knowing that Manfredo loved her more than she loved him. Damn Ezio and his martyrdom of the heart! Cristina struck the tear that leaked from the corner of her eye.
She kept the letter that Ezio had smuggled to her during the dancing. He had signed Manfredo's name, but the sentiments, the kiss were all Ezio. As was the Auditore pendant that weighed down on her heart.
She pasted on a smile and went to find the man she married, and prayed she would not (and, secretly that she would) run into Ezio Auditore.
