Reese stood in the library and held his arms close to his body. He really should consider taking his outer garments off to give the warmth a chance to permeate through, but his fingers were so cold he didn’t even want to remove his gloves. He heard Finch tutting and then felt him remove the beanie he was wearing. He refused to turn round, because that would mean moving his feet and they had got used to the little puddle of molten snow they were standing in.
“Really, Mr Reese,” Finch started saying as he unwound the scarf, “I would have expected you to return sooner, given the way the weather has been deteriorating.”
Reese mumbled something, his chapped lips preventing audible conversation.
“And if you’re telling me that personal surveillance was the best way of keeping track of our number, then can I remind you that I did make alternative suggestions, which you rejected out of hand.”
Reese grunted in response and moved his hands slightly so that Finch could take off his gloves and overcoat. He was surprised when Finch began to remove the next layer as well, but almost managed a small smile when he was told “Body heat is the best way to warm another person, so that is what we shall be doing.”
