The thing is that he’s never going to stop loving Batman.
And this isn’t just a spur of the moment decision, this isn’t like in sixth grade – or was it eighth – that he brought home a hamster – or maybe a dog – and promised to love it and squeeze it and hug it and then left it to die slowly over the next few weeks. This is proper, this is true, this is everything.
(And maybe that was Harley’s story in the end, anyway. Who cares, that’s not the point.)
The point is that he’s in it for the long haul. Forever and ever, or at least until Batsy comes to his senses. And that kind of love, that all-consumingly passionate sort of desire, is the only thing that he’s never been tempted to lie about. Not ever, not once, not even with the Bat’s fist in his mouth and growl against his throat.
Because the thing is, the thing is, that Batman’s never going to stop loving him either.
