There's a shoreline on the horizon. Steven could see it that evening when the captain had taken him walking on deck. He was mostly healed, the marks of his knife fading, the bruises of his captivity gone from purple and blue to dusky rose and dark brown. He kneels on the bed nd waits with trepidation. He knows the signs of land herald his departure, his freedom.
Yet...he wonders if he even desires freedom. He still hates the man that holds him, but he can not deny that these last weeks in his bed have brought Steven pleasures he would never know again. Out there, on that horizon, Steven's future waited. Here on this bed, he has no expectations but to serve.
The door opens and Christian deposits a pile of clothes on the desk. "Tomorrow."
Steven nods, dropping his eyes. "Tonight I will give you something to remember me by."
