“It’s not supposed to rain in California,” G griped as they ran under an old lifeguard stand for shelter.

Sam grinned. “Come on, a little water never hurt anyone.”

“Really. You’re arguing that in all of human history, water has never caused anything like floods or tidal waves or people being burned by hot coffee?”

Sam rolled his eyes. “No. I’m arguing that a little water can feel pretty good sometimes.” He leaned over G, pressing him back lightly against the wooden slats. He smiled and ran his hand over G’s shirt, soaking wet and clinging to G’s body.

“We should probably get out of these wet clothes, though,” G pointed out.

Sam nodded, mock seriousness. “For our own protection.”
