Leverage, team, All You Need To Know

(mostly Hardison. Could be Hardison/Parker if you squint.)

Sometimes, on the nights when sleep eludes him, Alec sits up and thinks. About his life, the team, everything. On the good nights, he counts his blessings, knowing that they’re doing good, and that he has real friends with him. On the bad nights, he wonders how close the team really is. After all, Nate is always insisting that he’s not a thief, that this is just ‘until he gets back on track’, as if he could ever go back to normal life now, and Sophie acts like everyone’s mother sometimes, but after the fiasco with Blackpoole he’s always wondered exactly what else she’s keeping from them. Eliot is as bad, never talking about himself, though all it takes to know that the man has demons is to look into his eyes. As for Parker… well, it speaks volumes that there’s more evidence for the existence of ‘Alice’, her old cover identity, than there is for whoever-the-hell Parker used to be. And – not sparing himself from his analysis – he knows that he hasn’t been completely open with the others, either.

No, he decides, none of them really knows all that much about the others. That worries him, because they’re supposed to be a team. Teams work best when the people in them know each other well, and they barely know each other at all. Any one of them could be hiding anything, and that could be something bad, something that could break them up and put most, or all, of them in jail.

It doesn’t help that they all seem to want different things. Eliot wants to be able to control his pent-up rage. Parker seems to be interested only in money, explosives and freedom, not necessarily in that order, and god only knows what Nate and Sophie really want out of life. He can’t help the feeling that they’re all keeping each other at arm’s length, and he doesn’t like it.

“You’re still up.”

He looks up to see Parker, in the middle of entering through the now-open window.
“What are you doing here?”
“Couldn’t sleep.”
“Same here.”
“You look like you were thinking about something.”
“I was. I was thinking that we don’t know anything about each other. And not just us… the whole team. We don’t talk about ourselves. We keep too many secrets.”
Parker frowns. “So?”
“We’re not being honest with each other.”
“Why would you want to know all the little facts about someone? It’s just facts. I know what I need to know about you guys. I know that you’re my team and I can trust you. What else is there?”
“You… yeah, you have a point there.”
“Great,” she grins, “got any sodas?”
