The rope bit deeply into the tender underside of Jack's wrist and his teeth snapped down on a groan. By morning they'd be rubbed raw if he so much as tried to move. Mind working furiously he looked up to catch Barbossa's eye,
"Don't you think this is a little excessive? We're on a ship full of you're crew in the middle of nowhere. Exactly where do you think I'm likely to go mate?"
"Jack," Barbossa drawled. "Don't play me for a fool, Jack. We both know you can cause more than enough mischief right here. You don't need to go anywhere at all to be a pain in my side." He emphasised his words with a sharp jab in Jack's ribs and this time he couldn't help the sound that escaped him.
"You know, that very nearly hurts, Hector." Jack chipped in when he caught his breath. The flash of anger that clouded Barbossa's eyes was the only warning he got. A vicious backhand across his face and Jack felt his lip split through the stinging shock. When he brought his head back up, he was smiling past the blood. "Now that on really does sting."
Barbossa growled, his foot coming up to connect with Jack's knee. As the chair toppled over, the air rushing past Jack's head, he cried out in pain and surprise. He'd goad Barboassa into dishing out more of it and if Jack too perverse pleasure in it he wasn't going to tell. It was all in the tone of his words, the smile on his lips and the rising heat in his bloodstream. Besides, he was reasonably sure the other man wanted it as much as he did and the dawn watch was a long way off yet.
