Even before the fall, before Hydra took him and molded him, James Buchannan Barnes was not a good man. He wasn’t an evil man by any stretch, didn’t do things to hurt people, but he protected his own. He skulked through the shadows and did the things that Steve couldn’t so that his friend remained bright and shiny. And he never regretted it.

After the fall. After Hydra shaped and molded him into what they wanted… he didn’t care about much. Only following the next order, the next command. He no longer cared for good or evil.

Until a man reminded who he really was.

And laid down, refusing to fight back when he tried to kill the blonde.

He wandered then, trying to remember. And each step that took him farther away; brought him closer to home.

Some nights, he woke up screaming, the memories of what he’d done, who he’d been too much and he destroyed everything around him. Other nights, he woke with tears streaming down his face. During the day, he wandered some more. Sometimes he helped people and sometimes he just observed.

And finally, one day, he found his way home.

He did! And draw your own conclusions what "home" is. No it isn't and I suspect that it's harder for him than Steve. Very welcome... I wasn't sure what was going to come from this one... but Bucky went where he wanted. I thought at first it was going to be some lovely little torture story... but apparently not.
