Wednesday: 100 Words on... Road Trips
Jul. 24th, 2019 12:01 amWelcome back, everyone. I’m
sherlockian_syn and today's summer-related theme is road trips. Prompts can be anything associated with going on a road trip - whether it's packing for one, planning one, or deciding to spontaneously get in your car and go. Fills should be at least 100 words or any multiple of 100. Have fun and stay hydrated!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard +/ any, On the road again / Goin' places that I've never been / Seein' things that I may never see again / And I can't wait to get on the road again (Willie Nelson)
+ Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes +/ John Watson, I got some money I saved / Enough to get underway / And baby you can sleep while I drive (Melissa Etheridge)
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers +/ any, the best road trip across America
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2019 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

This might have made sense if the landscape hadn’t changed significantly in the last 150 years, but the town had expanded, and the leafy lane was now a dual carriageway. At least there should be a burger place around.

Date: 2019-07-24 05:08 pm (UTC)“We need to find him and get out of here,” Steve said.
He looked uncomfortable in a waistcoat and stiff-collared shirt, even though it was essential to blend in and not draw too much attention. Danny had tried getting him into an ascot, but Steve had flatly refused. It wasn’t just the clothes, it was also the press of people on the streets of Manhattan, and the noise, and the dirty air.
“I want to get back home as much as you, Steven.”
Home on the range, just like that poem said. Danny never thought he’d feel comfortable living out there in the wide open spaces, but it wasn’t the strangest turn his life had taken.
Evening was falling and people were headed home, headed to dinner, headed out for a night’s entertainment at one of the countless music halls, gentleman’s clubs, or brothels the city had to offer. Hesse had family connections at one such place in the Bowery, a beer garden of ill repute.
Danny was completely focused on the task at hand, at least until Steve abruptly stopped walking and spun around with a snarl. When he turned back around the expression on his face was an almost comical mix of surprise and annoyance. A dirty, raggedy street urchin was trying to pull their arm out of his grip, with no luck.

Date: 2019-07-24 06:28 pm (UTC)“Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” John shot him a smirky grin.
“You can spare me the ridiculous movie quotes, Colonel.”
“That movie is a national treasure. Try not to suck all the fun out of this trip, McKay,” John replied.
Rodney almost made a blowjob joke, but wasn’t sure how that would be received. After all, he and John had only been officially dating for about a week. Was that too soon for sex jokes that probably were more suggestion than joke? He wasn’t sure.
“Although, if you have to suck something…”
“What are you? Ten?” Rodney turned to study his datapad, so he wouldn’t give away how amused he was. Apparently they were far enough along for sex jokes. Good to know. “If you’re hoping to get some action in here, you’re going to be very disappointed.”
“I can wait.” John reached over to give Rodney’s harness a tug, and his thumb deliberately skated across Rodney’s nipple.
He didn’t know where they were going, but suddenly Rodney was very anxious to get there.

“Abe,” Henry added, “if you look to the right, you’ll see the field where one of the first long distance electric power lines ran. Something you take for granted, but which was really exciting when they were first installed.”
Abe groaned. “Dad, I’m hungry.”
“We’ll find somewhere soon to stop for our picnic,” Abigail said.
“I thought we’d stop in the valley. There was a lovely spot last time I was there.”
“Was that also in the 1880s?” Abe muttered.

Date: 2019-07-25 03:20 am (UTC)“Meditating. Don’t disturb me,” Stephen replied curtly to Wong.
“But -”
“What did I just say?”
“It’s Mr. Stark, sir. He’s parked outside and he’s playing his music very loudly. And he asked me to get you.”
Of course it would be Tony who ruined his meditation session. Stephen stood up, stretched, and walked out the doorway to his room and past Wong. As he grew closer to the entrance of Sanctum Santorum, he heard it.
Guitars wailing. Bon Scott’s scratchy vocals.
I’m on the highway to hell!
Stephen couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he walked down the front steps. Tony leaned against his shiny red sports car, sunglasses on, smile as bright as the sun.
“You busy?” Tony half-yelled over the guitar solo.
“A little. Mind turning the music down?”
“Yes, but for you, I will.” Tony reached through the open window and tapped on the touch screen installed in the dashboard. The volume was lower now, at least.
“What are you doing here?” Stephen asked.
Tony shrugged nonchalantly. “Just wondered if you wanted to take a ride with me.”
“Where? Is something the matter?” Stephen felt his anxiety rising at the thought of further mortal peril.
“No,” Tony laughed, “Just felt like taking a little road trip.”
Stephen hesitated.
“C’mon, Doc,” Tony took off his sunglasses, “It’s called living in the moment. I know you can go anywhere with your little magic portals, but it’s not about the destination. It’s getting there that’s the fun part.”
It was Stephen’s turn to laugh. “Could you get anymore cliche, Stark?”
Tony took a few steps forward, well into Stephen’s personal space.
“Try me.”
Stephen smiled. “I’ll go get changed.”
“Yes,” Tony nodded, “Less studly sorcerer, more casual-but-still-super-hot doctor.”
“Super hot?”
“Uh, yeah. Have you seen yourself lately?”

Date: 2019-07-25 03:33 am (UTC)"The beach is only five minutes away and they won't start hatching until sundown. We've got plenty of time Codes." Shaun put the last of the food in the ice chest and closed it. Slinging the soft cooler over his shoulder he handed the bag containing towels, dry food, and a sketch pad to Zach. "You ready?"
Zach nodded and took Shaun's outstretched hand with a smile.
Cody had the door open before they made it across the living room of the suite. Shaun laughed, ruffling the little boy's hair as Zach closed the door behind them. "Alright, Cody, lets go see these baby turtles we were promised.

Date: 2019-07-24 12:54 pm (UTC)Basically anything. -"Pull over, Let me drive for awhile.”
Fill: Original fic James "Jimmy" Bogart/Desmond Richard
Date: 2019-07-27 06:35 am (UTC)Desmond was feeling antsy and needed something to distract his overactive mind before he went stir crazy.
"Hey, Jimmy," he said breaking the silence that had fallen between them.
"Yeah?" Jimmy sighed knowing what his lover was about to ask him.
"Can you find someplace to pull over and let me drive for awhile?" Desmond asked.
"I think I can manage that," Jimmy replied flipping on a turn signal and pulling into the nearest gas station. "I've got to answer a call of nature anyway."
"Of course you do," Desmond gently teased. "You didn't need to have an entire pot of coffee with your breakfast."
"Somebody wore me out last night and was having a hell of a time waking up," Jimmy grumbled as he parked at one of the pumps. "So bite me."
"Later," Desmond promised.
"Just fill her up while I take care of business," Jimmy muttered getting out of the car and heading into the store.
Desmond chuckled. He loved yanking his lover's chain, because Jimmy always gave as good as he got.
*&*
Jimmy returned to the car whistling. He handed over the car keys to Desmond before stowing his bag of goodies in the cooler that took up most of the back seat.
"Did you stock up on the junk food again?"
"I might have," Jimmy replied settling into the passenger seat. "If you're good to me, I'll share."
"I was very good to you last night, so spill," Desmond demanded.
"You can't stand not knowing something, can you?" Jimmy remarked.
"Jimmy," Desmond pleaded hoping he didn't sound like a whiny child.
"Alright," Jimmy sighed. "I did splurge on some junk food, but also got stuff you'll eat that won't ruin your figure."
"You are such a brat," Desmond told him. "I don't know why I put up with you."
"I know I am, and you keep me around for all the things I do to you in and out of bed," Jimmy retorted with a cocky grin.
"You are impossible," Desmond declared.
"Yes, dear," Jimmy agreed and proceeded to get comfortable so he could take a nap while Desmond drove.
Desmond shook his head. He started the car and pulled away from the pump and onto the road again.
