Wednesday: 100 Words on Music
Aug. 14th, 2019 12:00 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling themes inspired by the movies Grease and Grease 2, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is MUSIC, which of course both movies had tons of. Prompts can be anything related to music: writing it, performing it, whistling a happy tune, using lyrics to set a mood, etc.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Any, Any, serenading that special someone in a very public venue
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett (+/ Danny Williams),
Yeah, I'm a half-cocked, full-tilt
Scarred-hands-to-the-hilt
Don't-push-me, grown-ass man
(Eric Church)
+ MI5|Spooks, Lucas North +/ Adam Carter, providing protective detail to a popstar
+ Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay,
Would you rescue me?
Would you get my back?
Would you take my call when I start to crack?
Would you rescue me when I'm by myself?
When I need your love, if I need your help
(OneRepublic)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-08-14 07:44 pm (UTC)Stephen glanced behind him - Tony was taking his sweet time getting out of their limousine -
“Wise men say, only fools rush in.”
Stephen’s eyes grew wide, and his face started to flush with embarrassment. Of course Tony would do something like this at their first public appearance as an official couple.
Tony went down on one knee, serenading Stephen and the onlooking crowd with the well-known Elvis Presley tune.
“But I can’t help...falling in love with you.”
Tony’s baritone voice sounded smooth and on pitch. Stephen smiled, pleasantly surprised through the haze of mortification.
Once Tony stopped singing, the crowd went wild. He stood up, took Stephen by the arm, and guided him down the red carpet and into the charity event.
“Subtlety was never your strong suit, was it?” Stephen asked.
“Not at all, but quit acting like you’re not impressed. Now let’s find some champagne to celebrate.”

Date: 2019-08-17 03:56 am (UTC)He led John over to the couch and into a fierce embrace.
He knew John suffered from terrible nightmares, but he never asked about them. He just held John giving him the silent support he badly needed.
"Rodney?" John asked raising his aching head from Rodney's shoulder. His voice was hoarse from him shouting in his sleep.
"Yes?"
"Why don't you ask about my nightmares?"
"I don't want to push you into talking about something so painful," Rodney quietly responded rubbing circles along John's back.
"Carson told me I need to talk about them so I can deal with them and move on with my life," John told him. "If I don't, he's going to ground me because the lack of sleep is affecting my health and my ability to be an effective leader."
"If you are ready to talk about them, then I'm ready to hear about them," Rodney said hoping he would be strong enough for both of them.
John smiled. He cleared his throat and began talking.

Until he sang a verse and chorus in an elevator with Giselle. The doors opened on the last note.

Date: 2019-08-31 10:11 pm (UTC)“Whose playing Black Sabbath?” Tony asked.
“Steve apparently learned how to set different ring tones for his contacts,” Clint said through his laughter.
“No need to guess who that’s for,” Tony said as he walked toward the others, which also included Natasha and Bruce.
“Correct,” Natasha said. “Next one, Steve.”
Steve looked somewhat uncomfortable but started fiddling with his phone as requested.
Soon, the phone was spouting a folksy tune.
Natasha and Bruce were laughing immediately, joined by Tony. Clint was trying his best to look annoyed but couldn’t keep the smile off his face either.
“Seriously?” he asked Steve. “Me and My Arrow?”
“Perfect,” Natasha said.
“How the hell did you even hear of that?” Tony asked.
Instead of answering, Steve stopped the song, tapped the phone a few times, and another song began playing.
This time the music was more rock ‘n roll than folk, and the lyrics gave away the answer right away.
“Spider Woman?” Tony asked. “Interesting choice. Interesting lyrics.” Glancing over to Natasha, he asked, “Anything I should know?”
“Nope,” Natasha said.
“She was a spider woman, but she was good to me,” Uriah Heep sang from Steve’s phone before he tapped the screen and the music stopped.
The next song was considerably different, with a thick voice singing showtunes.
As soon as the others realized what it was, the laughter returned.
“You better make sure Fury never hears that,” Natasha said.
“Yeah, man,” Clint said. “You like to live dangerously. ‘Pirate King’ from ‘The Pirates of Penzance?’ Wow, even I wouldn’t go that far.”
“It wasn’t--,” Steve began, but stopped. “It seemed to fit…” he added, almost turning it into a question at the end.
“Gotta give you credit, that’s something I would have done,” Tony said. “Actually, I’m almost annoyed I didn’t think of it first. Good play.”
“I guess I know who’s next,” Bruce said. “Hit me with it.”
The song stopped, and a moment later, a gentle guitar piece began.
“I knew it had to be that,” Tony said. “A bit on the nose, but still perfect.”
From the phone, Kermit the Frog’s voice sang, “It isn’t easy being green.”
“Fair,” Bruce said. “That’s fair.”
Steve stopped the song, looking more embarrassed than pleased by the attention given his song choices.
“Well, you asked, and I answered,” Steve said.
He started to get up off the couch, but Tony held up his hand.
“Hold up,” he said. “I have questions. “I can understand Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’ and even Kermit, but how the hell did you come up with Harry Nilsson and Uriah Heep?”
“Lucky, I guess,” Steve answered unconvincingly.
“Nope, you had help,” Tony said. “It makes sense now. No way you go with ‘Pirate King’ on your own. Who’s your accomplice?”
“Nobody,” Steve said. “It was me and me alone.”
Just then, Steve’s phone began playing music, and it was clear by his expression he hadn’t done anything.
The music this time was much older than the other songs, a haunting female voice, singing, “You go to my head,” which Tony recognized as Billie Holiday.
Steve looked down at his phone like it had betrayed him as Holiday sang, “You linger like a haunting refrain, and I find you spinning round in my brain.”
Sighing, Steve answered his phone and brought it to his ear.
“Hey Darcy, what’s up?”

She walked up to his cluttered desk trying to place the music she could hear quietly playing in the background.
Sensing her presence, Mulder looked up from the file he had been reading his glasses sitting on the tip of his nose.
"Morning, Scully," he greeted her.
"Mulder," she said in return. "What's that you are listening to?"
"Meditation music," Mulder replied. "I surprise you again?"
"You could say that," Scully admitted. "I was expecting something from a 70's porno."
Mulder rolled his eyes in exsaperation. His rep as "Spooky" Mulder had preceeded him yet again.
"What?" Scully asked in an attempt to keep the conversation going.
"Just because I have a doppleganger who hosts a show on Showtime called Red Shoe Diaries doesn't mean I'm into porn," Mulder grumbled.
"Okay," Scully reluctantly agreed, and to keep Mulder from ranting about appearances being deceiving she changed the subject. "Do we have a case?"
"Yes," Mulder replied and launched into an in-depth explanation of what they would be investigating.
Scully did her best to take it in knowing for certain that life as Mulder's partner would never be dull.

Date: 2019-08-15 02:01 am (UTC)John shot Rodney a sharp look. “What?”
“Your body’s talkin’, say what you want.”
John felt heat flare in his veins. He’d gone to the trouble of dressing extra nice, had agreed to this road trip with Rodney while the SGC decided what to do with the suddenly displaced Atlantis Expedition in hopes of getting Rodney alone and setting a mood so he could confess his feelings. So far the road trip hasn’t gotten off to a good start, the two of them squabbling over who drove and who controlled the music until they both agreed to switch every three hours and listen to their own music on their earbuds.
Rodney was staring at the window, had been for the last half hour since their last argument over the AC devolved into huffy silence.
And then he murmured, “And I can’t wait to love you all alone.”
Love?
John swallowed hard. “Rodney?”
No response. Rodney was still staring out the window.
John cleared his throat loudly. “Rodney.”
Rodney said, “Love how your body feels on me.”
Only John’s hard-earned pilot reflexes prevented him from jerking the wheel and crashing the rental car. He cast Rodney a wide-eyed look.
Rodney hummed and turned to him, flipped down the hood of his sweatshirt, and John saw he was wearing his earbuds.
John waved at him.
Rodney popped out one of his earbuds. “What?”
“What song are you listening to?”
“Hm? Oh, nothing special.” Rodney’s pink cheeks belied his nonchalance.
John said, “Put it on, start it again.”
“Really? But you said -”
“I’m feeling brave,” John said, though that wasn’t strictly true.
Rodney fiddled with his iPod and the tape deck, and unfamiliar pop music filled the car, bright and airy and surprisingly sweet.
Rodney sang along again.
“Highway to heaven?”
“It’s catchy,” Rodney protested.
John considered the lyrics, catching the ones he’d heard Rodney singing earlier. The song seemed vaguely about hooking up with a girl, but… “This song makes no sense.”
Rodney looked away. “It wasn’t originally in English, all right? This is just the English version.”
“Doesn’t sound like any French pop I’ve heard.”
Rodney mumbled something John couldn’t hear.
“I’m sorry, what was that?”
“It’s Korean.”
“Wait - you’re listening to Korean pop? Like all the botanists do?”
“Dr. Kiang listens to it all the time, and - it’s catchy, okay?” Rodney was blushing.
John said, automatically, “Dr. Kiang is very pretty. I can see why you’d indulge her.”
Rodney shot him a glare. “That’s not why I listen to it. If you’re going to make fun of me -” He reached for the stereo.
John reached out, caught his hand. “No. I’m sorry. And - you’re right. It’s catchy.” He started the song again, sang along best as he could.
My body’s callin’, can you pick up?
Rodney stared at him. “Of course you’re also a music savant. I hate you.”
John glanced at him and smiled tentatively.
You’re body’s talkin’, say what you want.
“Oh please. I’m not a curvy woman.”
“Well,” John said, “the only person in this car with me is you. So, let’s call this highway the 101. Let’s see just where it goes?”
Rodney peered at him. “Seriously?”
“Yeah.”
“You mean -”
John took the plunge. “I mean I want to love you all alone.”
Rodney’s jaw dropped. “You’re messing with me.”
“I’m wearing my nicest black turtleneck for you.”
“But - Dr. Kiang -”
“I’m pretty good at playing straight.”
Rodney stared at John for a moment longer. Then he craned his neck. “Next exit in fifteen miles has a motel.”
John’s heart sped up. “Are you sure?”
“You better light up my wrist.”
John was perplexed. “What does that even mean?”
“I don’t know,” Rodney admitted. “The lyrics make no sense. But if you take the next exit, we can make up our own definition.”
John nodded and flipped on his blinker. “You’re on.”
Rodney smiled at him slyly and said, “We got the chemistry.”
Both of them burst out laughing. The knot of tension in John’s chest loosened, and he knew that whatever the SGC threw at them, he could handle it as long as he had Rodney beside him.

Fill: Bucky Barnes + Tony Stark (400)
Date: 2019-08-15 03:34 am (UTC)There’d been no hesitation on James’ part, no question that he shouldn’t check in with Tony. There was a lot about himself he still couldn’t trust, but his instincts were pretty reliable.
Tony went down to his workroom, which wasn’t surprising. But he didn’t do anything once he got there, and that was. He just sat at his worktable, all the lights still off, and stared off into space.
James thought he’d been stealthy, but when he slipped inside the room Tony nodded.
“I know you’re there, Space Ghost.”
“Didn’t mean to intrude,” James replied softly, not wanting his voice to carry and grow any louder in the quiet space.
“You couldn’t sleep either?”
“No.”
Tony nodded again, barely glancing in James’ direction. “I can’t stop seeing it. You’d think, after all this time, it would get easier. But it doesn’t.”
James knew he was talking about the vision of death Wanda had placed in Tony’s head, before she’d come around to their side. Tony’s deepest fears brought to life.
“At least you know it’s not real,” James said. “The things in my head… I don’t know, sometimes.”
Memories, surely. At least some of them. Terrible, gut-wrenching memories that he wished he could cut right out of his head. Other things, too. Hydra programming. The feeling that he was useless except as a tool of destruction. Thin, fragile wisps of the boy he’d once been, running around Brooklyn with Steve.
“Sorry,” he said before Tony could say anything. “That sounded bad. I’m not trying to one-up you.”
He expected some sort of joke, or sarcastic reply. Instead, Tony asked if he’d like to learn some basic robotics.
“Steve said you were a big science nerd, before. I could teach you how it works. And maybe we can do something about that imperfectly crafted arm of yours.”
“I’m game,” James said, flexing the fingers of his metal hand and hearing the gears grind.
They spent the rest of that long, sleepless night – and many others that followed – working together to build a robot. Building a friendship was just an added bonus.
