Thursday: 100 Words on Dating
Aug. 15th, 2019 12:05 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re filling themes inspired by the movies Grease and Grease 2, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is DATING. Sandy and Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie – Grease is all about the pairings. Prompts can be anything related to dating, from blind dates to dating disasters to the pitfalls of being in dating relationships, or whatever else you can think of!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis (/Any), Evan Lorne/Any, Three Blind Dates (Frasier)
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, how to plan the perfect first date when they’ve already been kind of dating for months/years
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any m/m, the difference between dating and being in a relationship
+ Letterkenny, Wayne/Daryl,
Don't waste another mile or a minute not kissin' me
Life is short, make it sweet
(Old Dominion)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2019-08-15 04:32 pm (UTC)Rodney looked up from his cup of coffee. The man who worked the cash register of the bakery cafe was standing beside his table, serving tray in hand.
“You’ve been on three blind dates here, with very impressive partners, but I’ve never seen you come back for a second date, or even just a coffee breaks.”
Rodney felt a blush creep up his cheeks. “No, that’s not - Radek is a colleague. And Parrish is not even - no. As for Carson, we’re just friends.”
The man raised his eyebrows. He had bright blue eyes and broad shoulders. “Sorry. My mistake.”
He wasn’t mistaken, but Rodney wasn’t about to admit that. “What do you care?”
“I was wondering what you thought of bakers.”
“Why, you know one?”
“Me,” the man said.
“Really?”
“Every pastry in that case is out of my recipe stash,” the man said. “I noticed you like the citrus free.”
“I’m severely allergic to citrus,” Rodney protested. Then he blinked. “Wait. Are you asking me out on a date?”
The man grinned at him. “We could start with a coffee break if you like.” He offered a hand. “My name is Evan.”

Date: 2019-08-15 10:16 am (UTC)Fill: Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams + Grace Williams/Will Grover (500)
Date: 2019-08-16 04:01 am (UTC)Grace rolled her eyes, which Danny didn’t appreciate. He also didn’t appreciate how grown-up she looked with the blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick and white go-go boots and way-too-mini miniskirt. No-one should be looking at his daughter’s thighs.
“Danno, you need to get with the times. It’s a new decade. This is what women are wearing.”
“You’re not a woman, you’re my baby daughter. It’s a first date, not a honeymoon.”
“You’re a laugh riot,” Grace said.
Danny was ready to wrap her in a blanket and send her back to her room when there was a perfunctory knock on the door. Grace looked relieved.
“Uncle Steve! Please tell Danno to stop being such a spaz.”
“Stop being a spaz,” Steve said obediently. He gave Grace a kiss on the cheek. “You look nice.”
“Thank you!” Grace stuck her tongue out at Danny.
“So what are you wearing on your date? Because no way you’re going out in a skirt that short.”
“That’s so not cool.”
Danny was a mature adult male, but that didn’t stop him from sticking his tongue out at Grace in retribution. Steve almost always had his back, though he did side with Grace from time to time.
“You don’t want this kid thinking your easy,” Steve said. “You need to set the right tone.”
Grace threw her hands up. “Fine. Take a chill pill. I’ll go change.”
She stomped back up to her room, grumbling under her breath the whole way. Danny let out a sigh.
“Teenage girls are nightmares, Steven.”
“She’s a good kid, Danny. Wouldn’t kill you to give her the benefit of the doubt. She knows how to handle herself.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of.
When Grace returned, she was more appropriately clothed in a skirt that covered her knees and strappy sandals. And not a minute too soon, because almost as soon as Danny gave his approval for the wardrobe change, her date was ringing the doorbell.
Will was a good-looking kid despite the apple green leisure suit and burgeoning afro.
“Mr. Williams, sir.” Will shook Danny’s hand, and then seemed unsure if he should shake Steve’s. He erred on the side of caution and shook hands all around.
Will’s family lived in the neighborhood, but Danny didn’t know the Grovers very well. Clearly that was something that needed to change if their son was going to be dating his daughter.
“Home by ten,” Danny said.
“Danno. I’m sixteen. No-one my age has a curfew that early.”
“Ten-thirty, then.”
Danny gave her a kiss and pretended not to see Steve slip her a couple bucks in case she needed to get a cab home.
“Have fun!” Steve said. He closed and locked the front door. “So. What do you want to do for the next few hours?”
Danny pulled him in for a kiss. “I can think of a few things.”
Grace wasn’t the only one having a date night.

The woman continued, “My friend will take good care of him.”
Lucas smiled.
“You’re cute,” the friend said. “Do you want to dance?”
“Mmm.”
The friend pulled Lucas onto the dance floor, leaving Adam to talk to the dark-haired woman.
Suddenly, Lucas’ new companion said, “There’s Alexei, from my office. Come and meet him.”
She dragged him over.
Lucas grinned, the very man they wanted to meet, and he was being introduced.

Date: 2019-08-16 04:00 am (UTC)"Why's an All-American guy like you dating a bum like me?" Bucky asked Steve one day out of the blue.
"You're not a bum," Steve immediately protested. He hated when Bucky ran himself down. "You've just encountered a bit of hard luck."
"Yeah, a bit of hard luck," Bucky bitterly quipped. He had been let go from another job.
"You'll find another job," Steve said trying to reassure Bucky. He didn't want Bucky to join the Army because work was still scarce. "I have faith in you."
Bucky shook his head at his boyfriend's navete. "You always want to see the good in others. One of these days it's gonna bite you in the ass."
"What shall we do until that day comes?" Steve countered with a shy grin.
"I think we have enough spare change to go to the movies," Bucky replied. "What would you like to see?"
"Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," Steve quickly answered.
"If I didn't know any better, I would think you had a thing for Jimmy Stewart," Bucky teased him since this would be the third time in a week they had seen the movie.
"Whatever," Steve muttered following Bucky out of the apartment they shared and down to the street below. "I just like the movie."
"Okay," Bucky said not pushing Steve for his reason for liking the movie. "You want to stop by the diner for dinner?"
"Yeah," Steve answered. "We can call it a date."
Bucky smiled. "Whatever you say, punk."

Date: 2019-08-15 01:09 pm (UTC)Summer fling
Don't mean a thing
But oh, oh
The summer nights
(John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John)
Fill 1/2: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay (1300)
Date: 2019-08-15 09:55 pm (UTC)They meet in the little movie theater off Crane Street.
It’s John’s fourth time seeing Back to the Future, and he thinks he’ll probably see it a few more times before the summer is over. He feels pretty confident asserting to anyone who’ll listen that it’s the best movie ever made, narrowly edging out Return of the Jedi and Ghostbusters.
He couldn’t get any of his friends to come with him this time – “Ugh, not again. We’re going to the beach.” – but that’s okay. He has popcorn and Goobers, and the first showing of the day means the theater is mostly empty so he can put his feet up on the seat in front of him.
“This is stupid.”
John frowns but doesn’t turn around to see what jerk is complaining about his favorite movie.
“Oh, sure. Terrorists are just rolling down Main Street USA with rocket launchers. Give me a break.”
John hunches his shoulders, scowling.
“1.21 gigawatts? Like that’s enough power to open a wormhole and propel a car through it. Didn’t anyone consult an actual scientist?”
John turns in his seat and throws a handful of popcorn at the kid sitting one row back and a few seats down. “Do you mind?”
“Do you?” the kid snaps back at him. He brushes the popcorn off his Monty Python t-shirt. His hair is arranged in a weird New Wave style that hangs over one eye.
“If you don’t like the movie, the door is over there.” John points.
“They got the science all wrong, you know.”
“Not watching it for the science, dipshit.” John turns back around, confident that he’s diffused the situation.
A minute later, the kid climbs over from his row and drops down in the seat next to John. “Don’t you care that they got it all wrong?”
“Who are you? Mr. Wizard? Go do something else if the movie bothers you so much.”
“There’s nothing to do in this stupid town,” the kid grumbles, crossing his arms.
“Are you kidding me? There’s a ton of cool stuff to do around here!”
The kid doesn’t look convinced. In fact, he looks pretty miserable. It’s probably his first time on the Island, unlike John whose family spends the summer there every year. John decides to take pity on him. After all, a guy who likes Monty Python can’t be all bad.
“Listen. If you can keep your mouth shut for the rest of the movie, I can show you around after.”
“Fine.”
John settles back in to watch the rest of Marty McFly’s adventures and, after a moment’s hesitation, offers the kid some of his popcorn. Still, John can tell when the kid disagrees with whatever is happening on screen because he grumbles under his breath and makes little snorting noises of disbelief. It’s actually kind of funny.
True to his word, as soon as the movie is over John and the kid – “Mer...I mean, Rodney. Rodney McKay.” – hit the town. They play a round of golf at the Mini Putt (John thinks he does a pretty good imitation of Bill Murray in Caddyshack), play Pac Man and Galaga and Donkey Kong at Noah’s Arcade (Rodney is crazy good at video games), and meet back up with John’s friends for a beachside barbecue as the sun starts to set.
“Thanks,” Rodney says when it’s time to go home. “I had fun.”
He’s not such a bad guy to hang around with. He can be really funny, he has a sarcastic sense of humor, he’s super smart, and he has really nice eyes. John worries he might be developing a crush on Rodney, which isn’t the end of the world. John knows he’s gay, though he’s good at hiding it because his father would flip out, but he wouldn’t have the first idea how to approach another guy the way he would a girl.

Evan softly chuckled. If he had known that the way to Rodney's heart was caffeine, he would have brought him a cup of coffee a lot sooner. "It's a date," he said.
Rodney smiled, and then pulled them back into the work in front of them.

Date: 2019-08-15 01:15 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: 900 + Diana and Mera
Date: 2019-08-17 05:39 pm (UTC)He knew the two of them being friends would be a disaster for him when they found out he was dating Barry. Diana already mothered Barry a little bit. Mera joined in, the two of them plying him with food and new clothes. Because Barry was awkward, he bonded the only way nerds knew how, by introducing them to his obsession: K-pop. And K-dramas. To Arthur’s quiet horror, both women loved both things and would spend one night a week with Barry watching the newest episodes of the shows he followed, music videos, footage of live performances, interviews, and variety shows.
“Three hundred days is coming up,” Diana said to Arthur apropos of nothing one day, while he was getting coffee in the Hall of Justice break room.
“Three hundred days of what?”
“Since you started dating Barry,” Mera said.
Arthur considered. He and Barry had been together about a year. “So?”
“So you have to take him on a special date,” Diana said.
“Not just a special date: the perfect date.” Mera looked at him earnestly.
Arthur was fantastic in bed and even a pretty decent cook, but usually he and Barry hung out and watched movies or played video games or just ate and drank and then had lots of sex. Going out wasn’t really a thing for them.
“What’s the perfect date?” he asked, and was already afraid of the answer.
“Diana and I have done extensive research,” Mera said proudly.
“The top date option would be you renting out an entire theme park for a night,” Diana said.
Would Barry actually like that? That could be fun. Roller coasters were fun.
“The beautiful glowing lights and the fireworks and a romantic kiss atop the Ferris wheel would be ideal.”
“But you can’t afford that,” Mera cut in.
Arthur scowled at her, but she was right.
“The next option would be shopping for matching sweatshirts and riding bicycles downtown and then a picnic in the park,” Diana continued.
“I hate clothes shopping,” Arthur said flatly. He took in Diana’s earnest expression. “Did Barry say that’s what he’d want?”
“It’s what they always do in K-dramas,” Mera said.
Arthur stared at her. She beamed, pleased with herself. Diana wore a matching expression.
“Barry and I aren’t Korean.” Nor was Arthur anything like those skinny pretty boys who were in K-dramas. Barry was very skinny and pretty though.
“But Barry loves K-dramas and the romance portrayed in them,” Diana said calmly. “I know you and Barry often play video games together, so the ideal date for you is a date to an arcade.”
“Why would we pay to play video games when we can play at home?” Arthur protested.
“You must take him to dinner first,” Mera said. “And then play games you can’t play at home. Like the dancing game.”
“And the basketball game,” Diana added.
“And the smack the ground rodent game.”
Arthur sighed. “It’s called whack-a-mole.”
“You must be competent at the games but allow Barry to win some - though with his reflexes he may be difficult to beat,” Diana continued.
Mera was similarly undeterred. “But most important of all: you must win him a stuffed toy from the claw machine.”
Arthur couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “What?”
“Trust us,” Diana said. “We have watched hundreds of hours of K-dramas. We are experts.”
Arthur eyed them both.
Mera produced a pretty coin purse. “Come. You must train.”

Date: 2019-08-15 03:49 pm (UTC)“Zayne,” Andrej said, squatting beside the body, “this is not what I expected when you said you’d take me on a different kind of date.”
Shrugging, Zayne pointed to something. “Get a picture of that.”
Andrej glared at him but did as asked.
“You brought your boyfriend to a crime scene for a date,” the medical examiner queried. “That’s rich, even from you, Reyes.”
Zayne rolled his eyes. “This wasn’t my plan,” he said, nudging Andrej and pointing to something else he wanted photographed. “But when the captain calls, you go.”
“It is fine,” Andrej said, sighing. “The only benefit to dating another detective is that they understand these things.”
“Even if you have an extra party on your date,” Carla joked.
“He’s used to having a third,” Zayne said, chuckling. “Ain’t nothing new for us. Ouch.”
Carla laughed. “Guess that wasn’t supposed to be common knowledge, Reyes.”
Rubbing the spot on his arm where Andrej had pinched him, Zayne grunted. “Guess not. Sorry, Zek.”
“Do yourselves a favor, Reyes. Once you’re done here, take him on a normal date. Dinner. A movie.”
“Ice cream,” Andrej said.
“That works, too,” Zayne said, nudging Andrej. “Just no more pinching, you ass.”
“Plan better dates,” Andrej muttered, smiling as he said it.
“Or, at least, don’t answer your phone next time,” Carla said, rising to her feet. “I think I’m done here. Is it safe to leave you two alone?”
“We’re golden,” Zayne said. “But thank you.”
“Okay then, have a good night, you two,” she said, waving at them. “And Zayne? I’m serious. Do something nice for that boy. He puts up with way too much of your shit.”
“She’s right,” he said. “What do you want me to do for you tonight?”
Andrej looked up and smiled. “Take me home.”
