Friday is a (Music) Free-for-all
Sep. 6th, 2019 02:00 amHappy Friday to those who have today as the end of the work week! I have been
untldeathtakeme and it's been a pleasure to see the prompts and fills that have been written this week. I'd like to end the week on a simpler note, so today is musical free for all. Prompts can be anything related to music. Lyrics/Albums/Singers/AU'S/characters listening to music or annoying each other with songs, cameos by your favorite singer for no good reason?, it all goes.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Any, Any/Any, Love on the Rocks (Neil Diamond)
+ Justifed, Ava Crowder/Boyd Crowder,
"When you call out my name in rapture
I volunteer my soul for murder
I wish this moment here forever
And you are my black hearted love"
(Pj Harvey & John Parish – Black Hearted Love)
+ Bbc Sherlock, Any/Any, Love Kills
(Freddie Mercury)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2019 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.
Please consider taking a week to host the comm, it's really fun and easy! More info can be found here

Date: 2019-09-06 11:47 am (UTC)Fill The Mentalist Cho/Vega
Date: 2019-09-06 09:17 pm (UTC)When Cho uses that voice, Michelle and all the other agents under his command know it’s not a good idea to delay. So she leaves the backstory brief she’s been studying, pausing only long enough to straighten her jacket and shake back her ponytail, and makes a beeline for his office. Wiley shoots her a sympathetic glance as she passes, probably worried that she’s going to get told off for something.
Michelle gives him a tight smile back, partly because it’s what’s expected and you never know who might be watching. It’s mostly, however, because that’s exactly what she’s afraid of too.
When she gets to Cho’s office, he’s sitting behind his desk, file open in front of him, pen in his hand. Michelle pretends not to notice the tension in his shoulders, the white of the knuckles. “Close the door,” he says, his eyes glancing over her shoulder to the bullpen beyond. When she does that, his eyes drop to the chair opposite his. “Sit down.”
She does so, back ramrod straight, hands arranged on her lap like she’s at Sunday Mass with her grandmother. She waits for him to speak, resisting the urge to twist her fingers the way her stomach is twisting.
“You heard what Jones said at the briefing.”
It’s not a question. Michelle nods. “I’ve been studying the backstory since then. I’ll have it down by evening.”
“And you’re ok with this? Dropping everything you have to go undercover for who knows how long?”
Once again, Michelle nods. Cho’s eyes narrow just the tiniest amount which for him is the same as slamming his hand on the table. “We were only briefed today,” he reminds her. “You don’t have to agree to the secondment. You can think about-”
“I don’t need to.” It might not be the done thing to interrupt the boss but Michelle doesn’t care. “You saw the pictures, you heard what these men are capable of, just like I did.” Cho clicks the pen in his hand, a muscle in his jaw ticking at the same time. “They need someone fast, a young woman in this locality who speaks fluent Spanish, no relationship, no dependents...” His jaw ticks again at that and she knows why. “If I don’t do this, people are going to die.”
The pen clicks again and Michelle can hear his thoughts as clearly as if he’d spoken them. “All right.” It sounds as if he means the exact opposite. He shifts on his chair, turning his attention back to his reports. “You leave tomorrow... you better get back to prep.”
Knowing it for a dismissal, Michelle stands, her knees suddenly shaky, like she’s on unsteady ground. “Will I see you before I leave?” Her voice is as shaky as her legs. She doesn’t care.
He glances up from his paperwork, gives her a short nod. “I’ll come over tonight. Usual time.” That makes her feel better and she turns on her heel, heading for the door.
“Michelle?”
He never uses her name in the office and when she turns, sees him not looking at her but still down at his reports, she thinks she imagined it. Then she sees the tightness of his jaw, sees the muscle tick once more in his cheek.
“Come back to me.”
He doesn’t look up and Michelle feels a lump rising in her throat. “I promise.”

Date: 2019-09-06 04:45 pm (UTC)Fill: MCU, Bucky Barnes + Tony Stark, Bartender AU
Date: 2019-09-10 02:44 am (UTC)Tony found Bucky sitting at the bar nursing what appeared to be his second beer. He felt bad for his friend and fellow bartender knowing that Bucky and Steve must have had another fight.
It was a slow night, so he reached behind him and grabbed a bottle of good bourbon. He poured Bucky a shot and set it in front of him.
Bucky looked up from the bar with his mouth twisted into a wry grin. "Trying to get me drunk, Stark?"
"Wouldn't take much now, would it?" Tony countered. He was well versed in trying to mend a broken heart with alcohol.
"Probably not," Bucky admitted with a casual shrug.
"Why do you stay with him, if all you do is fight?" Tony asked knowing what the answer would be since this was part of their little dance around each other when discussing Bucky's love life.
Tonight, Bucky threw him a curve ball. "I stay because I can't stand being alone."
"Okay," Tony murmured before getting pulled away to serve a couple of servicemen at the other end of the bar.
Bucky sighed and knocked back the shot of bourbon. He didn't expect Tony to understand. Sometimes, he couldn't understand why he freaked out when left alone in a room.
PTSD was a fucking bitch.
"So let me get this straight," Tony said as he returned to where Bucky was sitting and poured him another shot. "You would rather take verbal and emotional abuse than be alone?"
"Yeah," Bucky admitted. "It's fucked up, I know."
"Yeah, but life does that shit to us, and all we can do is hold on for the ride," Tony remarked with a wry grin.
"You are rather philosophical tonight," Bucky observed pushing his shot glass toward Tony.
Tony took the invitation. He knocked back the shot with a deft flick of his wrist. "We all have our ways of combating our demons."
"Oh?" Bucky prompted.
Tony smiled. "I won't add to what you are already dealing with, but let us just say that trauma comes in different forms, so I might not be able to understand the hell you went through in Afghanistan, but I'm here if you need a friend."
Bucky nodded. He could use a friend like Tony. Somebody who didn't go digging around in his head, but was there to listen and provide a shoulder to lean on.
"I just might take you up on that offer tonight," Bucky said as he finished his beer.
"Okay," Tony agreed before ringing the bell behind the bar that signified that it was closing time.
"What were you planning on doing when you got off?" Bucky asked thinking it was time to get away from his best friend and their fucked up relationship for a little bit.
"I was planning on catching up on the last season of Hawaii 5-0," Tony replied as he began shutting down the bar for the day.
"Sounds like fun," Bucky teased. "Want some help, so we can get your binge party started sooner?"
"I won't say no," Tony quickly retorted. "But what are you going to do about Steve?"
"I wish I didn't have to do anything, but life doesn't work that way. So we will have a talk and go from there," Bucky said slipping off his stool and going around the bar to grab a rag to wipe the tables off.
"If you need a place to stay, you got one," Tony told him as he ushered out the last of the patrons and locked the door.
"I appreciate that," Bucky told Tony with a smile. He was living with Steve since he had to give up his place when he got sent to Afghanistan.
Tony clapped Bucky on the shoulder before gathering up glasses and other dishes to be run through the dishwasher.
Bucky smiled to himself. It was nice to have Tony as a friend.
They readied the bar for the next day and then headed upstairs to Tony's apartment above the bar and binge watched a show about cops in paradise.

Date: 2019-09-11 09:01 pm (UTC)It happens to be one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs.
Tony can be mature and helpful, but folks rarely look past the assholish behavior to see that side of him.
You are very welcome.
