They'd been doing pretty much the same thing for the past half hour, sitting across from each other on beds in the nurse's office. They were allowed to stay as long as they wanted, until they felt comfortable going back to class.
Which was so stupid, really, because - which class was that supposed to be? The only class they even shared was Geometry, now Aaron's least favorite class ever. The class they'd been in when this whole mess had started.
Everything in his life now revolved around this guy, and vice versa. Everything.
It wasn't fair. He didn't know if Ryan was dating anyone, and he couldn't even process yet what he himself might have to give up. Everyone was different, but most people this happened to at least ended up bonded with good friends or lovers. It would almost be easier if the whole soulmate thing acted like a love potion.
"Do you boys want to call your parents yet?" the nurse asked.
Aaron finally dragged his gaze off the floor and looked at Ryan. The guy looked like he was about to puke.
"No," Aaron said.
Ryan shut his eyes. "Dude, no offense whatsoever, but this fucking sucks." It was probably the longest sentence either of them had ever spoken to the other.
This was his life now. Their life. Hopefully it would get easier. Like maybe, in a few months, they could stand to be a few blocks away from each other. Then again, maybe not. Maybe it would stay just like this forever.
"Yeah," Aaron said.
