Tuesday: Angst
Jan. 14th, 2020 12:01 amHello, everyone. I’m
drabblewriter, and today's theme is angst. Prompts should be anything dark, depressing, and difficult.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
~Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order; Cal Kestis; just when he thinks he can't lose anything more, the galaxy proves him wrong
~Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order; eventually the good memories coming from his psychometric comfort object are replaced by his own pain
~any, any ot3, what happens when one of their partners is lost?
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2020 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

“Hey, have you seen Zek,” Zayne asked as the redhead walked past him. His thick, dark curls stood up all over the top of his head as if he’d been pulling at them.
“No, why?” James stopped and folded his arms across his chest. “Didn’t he say he was going to look at something?”
“Yeah,” Zayne said, waving his arms in front of him, “but he’s not where he said he would be. He’s not even anywhere in the area. I knew I shouldn’t have let him go by himself.”
“He’s not four, Reyes,” James reminded him. “Not only is he an adult, but he’s also a highly educated officer of the law. I think Andy’s fine wherever he is.”
“You know what? I’m sorry I even said anything to you,” Zayne growled. “You’re always on me about growing up and taking things more seriously. Here I am, taking shit seriously and you’re making a joke of it all. I give up.”
Zayne threw his hands into the air and stormed off towards the science fiction section of the book expo they were attending. James watched him wander off and rolled his eyes.
“Boy is way too excitable sometimes.”
**
James looked at his watch and frowned. They’d been here for hours and he hadn’t seen Andy since he went to go look at a display four hours ago. The last time he’d seen Zayne was about half an hour ago when he cruised by muttering about how dumb they had to be to bring Andy to a book expo and then let him wander off on his own.
He had to admit, that probably hadn’t been their smartest move. Andy liked his books and was easily distracted when he started looking at them. But he couldn’t actually be lost, could he? No, it was impossible. Andy didn’t get lost.
“There you are, cowboy,” James said when Zayne came back into his line of sight. “Find Andy?”
“Does it look like it,” Zayne snapped. “I can’t find him anywhere. This is your fault.”
“Mine? How is it my fault, Reyes?”
“I was going to go with him and you told me to let him go look on his own,” Zayne reminded him. “You said he’d be more likely to actually buy something if I wasn’t hovering.” Zayne grabbed the front of James’s shirt and shook him. “And now he’s lost, narco!”
“Calm down,” James said, peeling Zayne’s fingers off his clothing. He was starting to worry for the first time all afternoon, however. “He’s not lost. He’s just giving in to his need to wander.”
“He can wander in our fenced in back yard,” Zayne grumbled. “At least I’d know he was safe.”
“Know that who was safe, Zayne?”
Zayne and James turned towards the sound of the voice.
“Oh god, Zek, you’re okay,” Zayne breathed. He grabbed his partner and hugged him hard against his chest.
“Of course I am okay, Zayne,” Andrej said. “Why would I not be?”
“He thought you were lost,” James said, trying to cover his own worry. “I told him you were fine.”
“I do not understand why you were so worried,” Andrej sighed. “I said was going to look at books.”
“You weren’t where we left you,” Zayne said, eyes traveling down the length of Andrej’s body, taking inventory.
“That is because I read more than one genre, Zayne, and I wanted to look at the fantasy books, too,” he explained. “I even found a few I wanted to read.”
“Um, I can tell,” Zayne said, nudging James in the side.
“Holy hell, Andy, did you buy out the entire expo?” James eyed the laden canvas bags hanging from each of Andrej’s hands.
“I did not, Jay,” Andrej said, looking away from the inquisitive stares of his boyfriends.
“Maybe not,” Zayne chuckled, “but it looks like you gave it one hell of a shot.”
“I only purchased eighteen books,” he said, feeling silly as he did so. “That is not a lot.”
“Not for you,” James teased. “We’re just glad you’re safe. You’ve been gone for a good four hours.”
“Really?” Andrej set one of the bags by his feet and glanced at his watch. “Oh no, I am sorry. I did not realize that time had gotten away from me.”

Date: 2020-01-14 10:00 pm (UTC)“Next time, one of us will go with you,” James said.
“There will not be a next time,” Zayne said. “My poor heart can’t take the thought of misplacing his crazy ass again. Jeez, gingerbread.”
James laughed. “Okay, next time, I’ll sneak you out and we’ll walk this thing together.”
Andrej shook his head and smiled. “I am guessing that it is time to go home.”
“That depends,” Zayne said, “on whether you got to look at everything you wanted?”
“Well…”
“Oh no,” James snorted. “There’s more, he wants more.”
“Shut up, Rosewood,” Zayne teased. “What else did you want to look at?”
“I was contemplating buying a couple books I saw but…”
“But,” James asked.
“But I have already read them.”
“So why would you buy them,” Zayne asked.
“Because they are in my native tongue, Zayne,” Andrej explained. “And I have only read them in English.”
“Oh,” Zayne said, understanding finally. “Let’s go back and get them then. Where were they?”
“In the fantasy section,” Andrej said. “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” James said, slipping his arm through Andrej’s and leading them off towards where the books were.
When they stopped a few minutes later, Zayne burst into laughter. “Oh, Zek, honey,” he said, wiping a stray tear from his cheek. “Your obsession really doesn’t know any bounds.”
James looked from the laughing Texan to the blushing Romanian. “What am I missing?”
Zayne lifted a book and pointed at the title. “Ultima dorință,” he said, not completely mangling the words. “This is The Last Wish in Romanian.”
“And?” James was still confused.
“It is part of The Witcher series,” Zayne clarified. “You know, Henry Cavill as Geralt? Naked in a bathtub?”
“Ooooh,” James said, laughing loudly as the revelation hit him. “Got it. Matter of fact, I’ll even buy them for you, just because.”
Frowning, Andrej gave both of his boyfriends the death stare. “This is what I get for returning to you. I should have stayed lost.”
“Nah,” Zayne said, wrapping an arm around Andrej’s shoulder and squeezing him tightly. “You’d miss us harassing you.”
“And making up for it after you’ve snapped at us,” James added.
“That, too,” Zayne said.
“It is about the only thing I would miss,” Andrej muttered. “Please, purchase my books so we can go.”
“We really were worried, you know,” Zayne said as James took the books towards the cashier.
“I do, and I am sorry I frightened you,” he told Zayne. “But thank you for searching.”
“It’s what we do.”

Date: 2020-08-17 11:43 pm (UTC)“We’re retired, Shara.”
“Kes, it’s Leia. If she needed a former Pathfinder rather than a pilot, could you say no? How much do we owe her?”
“Do we owe her your life? You have a family. Think of Poe. She can’t ask you to do this. Not now.”
“I do. If Leia is right, this First Order could put the entire galaxy and everyone in it in danger. I can fly one more mission to try and prevent that.”
“I’m not going to dissuade you, am I?”
“I told you I’d always be a pilot, love. And I can’t just do nothing. I know you would make the same decision.”
“Just take care of yourself. Come back to us.”
“I promise. Now I have to go pack.”
Poe hurriedly tries to evacuate the hidden stair where he’s been listening, but he’s not fast enough. His mother tilts her head at him, looking a little tired but determined.
“You’re supposed to be in bed, sweetheart.”
“Are you leaving?” he asks.
“I have to. But I’ll be home in a few days. You’ll take of your dad in the meantime, right?”
“Yep!”
Shara smiles. “Good. Now let’s you tucked back in.”
“Tell me a story?” Poe begs once they’ve done so.
“When I get back,” Shara promises. “I’ll bring a whole new one. Now give me a hug and be a good boy and go to sleep, okay?”
“Okay.” Poe throws his arms around his mother and feels her enfold him in turn, safe and warm.
It’s the last time he’ll ever see her.

Date: 2020-01-14 01:08 pm (UTC)Fill -- DC (Got tissues?)
Date: 2020-01-14 08:04 pm (UTC)Although he searches all her favorite hiding places, there is no sign of Pax. The delicate Siamese cat has been his companion and playmate since kittenhood, but she and her person aren’t here…they should be. Pax’s person would take care of Rise’s person and he could snuggle up with Pax purring in his ear and all would be well again.
“Rise,” his person says, voice barely a whisper.
The big cat prowls over to the pallet where he rests, heart full of love and fear. His person gives him life, he knows, and soon that life will be gone.
You need a healer, he says to the man.
“Can’t. They’d lock us up. Maybe even sever us.” Rise’s person breathes slowly, laboriously. “Don’t worry…we’ll see them again on the other side, Talia and Pax. I miss them, too.”
Pax is gone! Soon, even his beloved person will be gone! The uncertainty of the unknown sparks anxiety and Rise yowls with distress.
“None of that.” As always, the man is decisive. He reaches out a weak hand and buries it in his daemon’s tawny pelt. “There’s no point in crying over what can’t be changed. We did the best we could….”
His voice trails off. Rise nuzzles him, but there’s no response. He emits a piteous mewl. All very well to say ‘Be strong’ when you are strong…now his own strength is fading. He feels it wane like the light ebbs at close of day.
Then the mighty cat is gone, and there is only what remains of a man when his powerful spirit has departed.
