Tuesday: 80s movies
Jan. 21st, 2020 06:34 amHello, everyone. I’m
cornerofmadness and today's theme is 80s movies. Prompts can be any movie from the 80s. You can have them on TV or at the movies, maybe the characters are at a drive-in or just plain use the movies for inspiration/make them part of the dialogue. However you want to tackle it. The character themselves don’t have to be from an 80s movie but the movie references do. If you want a little help finding some 80s movies for inspiration head here.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Prodigal Son, Edrisa Tanaka + any, she’s invited the team to an 80s night movie party at her house featuring Ghostbusters and Highlander
+ Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenberg (+any others if you want) “You’ve never seen Snake Plissken? You have to see Russell’s butt in black leather!” (Escape from New York)
+ any, any, ‘Empire Strikes Back is the best of the series, come at me.’
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2020 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2020-01-22 03:03 am (UTC)Already Dongmin’s teeth were chattering. He was so sensitive to the cold. Jinwoo wrapped his arms around Jinwoo and curled Dongmin’s hands in his, blowing on them.
“We have to stay quiet,” Jinwoo breathed in Dongmin’s ear.
Dongmin nodded, trembling against Jinwoo. Their breath steamed in the air. Jinwoo had seen in an anime one time, where ninjas were stalking an assassin during winter, and they’d swallow mouthfuls of snow to disguise their breath in the cold air. He wished they could do that now, but if he plunged his hands into snow right then he’d probably scream.
Why was it so cold? They were indoors. Classes were in session. Surely the heat in this part of campus (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EO2BxO1UUAAtQ2w?format=jpg&name=900x900) hadn’t been shut off completely. That would make pipes freeze, wouldn’t it?
Surely the cold was just a product of the weather not - something else.
Like ghosts.
Jinwoo had seen in movies how ghosts sucked all the heat and light - and eventually life - out of a room.
But there was no such thing as ghosts. This was just the others playing a stupid prank. Wasn't it? It had been Minhyuk’s idea to break into the old gym in the middle of the night and see if the rumors of a ghost were really true. It was Myungjun who’d gone haring off into the shadows by himself, startling Jinwoo and Sanha so badly that they’d dropped their flashlights. It was Bin who’d insisted Myungjun was up to something and they should split up, circle around, and scare him.
Only now they were separated, it was dark, and there was no way to find each other without giving their positions away, and Jinwoo was sure - was sure - there was someone else in the building besides them. Someone who wasn’t campus security or another student. Someone who slithered and skittered in the darkness.
The first thing Jinwoo had done was silence his cellphone, because he’d seen the horror movies where the killer found his victims by listening for their cellphones, waiting for them to ring or even just buzz with a text message. Or light up. There was no good way to try to contact the others without giving away their position. One moment Jinwoo and Dongmin had been headed for the stairs that would lead to the second floor where the dance studios were, the next they’d been running as someone chased them, boots thundering, breath coming in grunts and growls.
And now they were in what felt like a closet, the smell of old leather and dust heavy around them, shivering because the building was so cold. If Jinwoo was cold, Dongmin had to be in agony, because the cold always cut him straight to the bone.
Dongmin’s teeth rattled in his skull. It was getting colder. He was getting worse. Jinwoo was a photography major and Dongmin was a law student - neither of them knew anything about first aid. Jinwoo knew body heat was an effective way to stay warm, but it wasn’t a go-to option. Besides, if they did strip down to cuddle close, what would they be able to cover themselves with? They needed blankets or something, right?
Jinwoo shifted. Dongmin was taller than him by a good four inches, but he was the vulnerable one right now. It took a bit of wrangling, but eventually Jinwoo managed to turn Dongmin around so they were facing each other.
“Come closer. You’ll freeze,” Jinwoo whispered.

Date: 2020-01-21 04:08 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay + Radek + Laura
Date: 2020-01-21 10:22 pm (UTC)“Dibs!” Laura whispered.
“You can’t call dibs on the first hot guy that walks through the door,” Rodney shot back, his voice decidedly louder.
It probably wasn’t the best first impression, the two of them eagerly watching the hot guy walk through the garage area to the office space in back. Rodney hoped it wasn’t someone looking for directions or curious to see the inside of the old fire station, because if their business was going to get off the ground they needed actual paying customers.
“Go help Radek,” Rodney said, nudging Laura aside with his shoulder.
“Not on your life.”
“Need I remind you that you work for me?”
Laura snorted. “Once I start getting a paycheck, you can start bossing me around.”
“Am I interrupting?” the hot guy asked, one eyebrow raised.
He was wearing black denim jeans and a black leather jacket, and his hair was sticking up in ridiculous cowlicks that somehow made him look rakish instead of unkempt.
Laura started to bring her hand up. “Hi, I’m –”
Rodney hip-checked her out of the way. “Dr. Rodney McKay, founder of Ghostbusters.”
He shook the guy’s hand vigorously. He had very slender fingers.
“John Sheppard. I, uh. Something strange happened to me.”
“Yes, yes, of course it has. Right this way.”
Rodney’s lab and the still-empty containment unit were in the basement. Radek was already down there, tinkering with the proton packs, so Rodney enlisted his help to get John wired up to the machine that would check his brain function, his body temperature fluctuations, and detect even the slightest hint of ectoplasm on his person. On the monitor, his head glowed orange, yellow, and red.
Laura, who insisted on tagging along, made sure the video recorder was working.
“Tell us what happened,” Rodney said. “No detail too small.”
John looked dubiously at the pulse oximeter on his finger. “Well, okay. I just came home from the Center and I was unpacking my groceries.”
“What Center?” Rodney asked for clarification.
“The Youth Center. I teach a guitar clinic there after school for underprivileged kids.”
“Electric or acoustic?” Laura asked.
Rodney hated being interrupted, and he was technically the one in charge of John’s interview. “What does that matter?”
“No detail too small,” Laura replied in a sing-song voice.
“Acoustic,” John clarified. “Anyway, I had a carton of eggs on the counter and when my back was turned I heard this weird popping noise. The eggs were exploding out of the shells, and then cooking on the counter.”
“You’re sure it was the counter and not your stove top?”
“You sure you know what you’re doing?” John asked in response. “Look, the eggs fried on the counter, but none of the other food was affected. Then I heard this growling noise coming from the fridge. When I opened the door it was like a whole other world was in there, and a I heard a voice say ‘Zuul’.”
“What do you think it was?” Laura asked.
John started pulling electrodes off his forehead. “This was a mistake.”

Date: 2020-01-21 05:59 pm (UTC)Fill: MCU/SGA, Tony Stark + Rodney McKay
Date: 2020-01-22 03:39 am (UTC)“I’m not a –”
“Sit.”
Tony pulled his desk chair over and turned it around, sitting in it with his arms across the back. His new roommate, a fifteen-year-old genius named Rodney who had a real stick up his ass, was sitting on his neatly made bed amid piles of neatly pressed shirts. It was sickening.
“I’m gonna show you something very few people get to see.”
Rodney winced and covered his eyes with one hand. “I’d rather not.”
“Relax. It’s not another penis stretcher.”
Tony pulled out his wallet and fished out the picture he kept tucked inside. Himself, Freshman year at Pacific Tech and looking every bit as buttoned-up and nerdy as Rodney.
“This is you?” Rodney took the picture and stared at it. “Wow. What happened?”
“I used to be just like you. Wearing my nerdiness on the outside, ensuring I’d die a virgin and alienate everyone but other nerdy nerds.” Tony had still been fighting for his father’s approval back then. “And then I had a vision.”
“Was it the sun-god thing with the little pickles?” Rodney asked uncertainly. He handed back the picture.
“No. It was Hollyfeld.”
“The guy in the closet?”
“Lazlo Hollyfeld. You think you’re a genius, Brainiac? He puts us both to shame.”
Tony told Rodney how he’d followed Lazlo into the steam tunnels, tracked him down to his lair. And because his own curiosity knew no bounds, he’d actually talked to the guy. Tony had learned that Lazlo, back when he was a student at Pacific Tech himself, had invented something amazing. Something that he was later told was killing people.
“That’s a stupid story,” Rodney said, crossing his arms and thrusting out his chin. “It doesn’t have anything to do with me.”
“You have to loosen up, Sergeant Preston. Learn that science isn’t the answer to everything. Or you’ll burn yourself out like Lazlo did. Like I almost did.”
It was a hard-won lesson, but Tony knew he was better for it. Science was meant to be fun. He wanted to use it to make the world better, to make people happier, their lives easier. Learning not to take himself so seriously had been a big step in the right direction.
Rodney looked torn. Tony had been watching him the last few weeks. The kid was killing himself trying to be the top of his class, trying to be better, smarter. And especially trying to impress all of his professors. In some ways it was harder for Rodney than it had been for Tony, because he was so much younger than the other students.
“Think of it this way, kid. If you don’t learn to take a break and use your big brain for other things, you’ll never have great breakthroughs. All the best thinking happens outside the box.”
Rodney seemed to deflate suddenly. “I don’t know how to do that. My parents…they expect things to be done a certain way.”
“Yeah, I know a little bit about that.” Tony stood up and pushed the chair aside. “Take advantage of my experience.”
“What do I have to do?”
“This’ll be a good start.” Tony scooped up some of Rodney’s neatly pressed shirts and simply tossed them in the air.
After a moment, Rodney did the same, looking terrified and exhilarated all at once. Soon his side of the room was starting to look as messy as Tony’s.
“Now what?”
“Now? A party. With girls. It’s a moral imperative!”
Tony hooked an arm around Rodney’s neck and dragged him out of the room. He had a plan that involved lasers, an inflatable pool, and student beauticians from the Wanda Trossler School of Beauty down the road.
Rodney was already a genius. Under Tony’s tutelage, he could be so much more. After all, Tony was graduating in a few months. He needed a worthy successor.
