Cheerio, my good chums. I’m
sherlockian_syn and this week's themes are all related to food/different meal times. Today's theme is Dinner! Prompts can be whatever your fandom heart desires, as long as it has something to do with the evening meal in some way. Cooking fail? Time for takeout? An exquisite and elaborate three-course affair? You decide!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark/Stephen Strange, arguing over the menu for their wedding reception
+ Stargate Atlantis, Rodney McKay +/ any, dinner is his favorite meal of the day
+ Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes +/ John Watson, case closed takeaway
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2020 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

“Nothing special. I thought it would be nice. Anyway, food’s ready. I’ll bring it through.”
Adam sat down and Lucas came in with two plates of spaghetti Bolognese.
“There has to be some reason,” Adam said. “Spaghetti isn’t the usual fare for a candlelit dinner.”
“Power’s off, so the lights aren’t working, hence the candles. And spaghetti was the only thing I could think of cooking with just the hob available.”

“Do you have any objection?”
“Not so long as you don’t give it one of your appalling puns as a title.”
“And there I was debating between A Disturbance of the Peas, and An Apple a Day Keeps the Policeman Away.”
“Just because we were in a greengrocer’s.”
John laughed. “It’s okay. I’m not serious. I assume we’re getting a takeaway.”
“Of course.”
“Thai?”
“We always have Thai.”
“That is because I’m always tired by the end of the case and don’t have the brain capacity to choose what to have. If we get Thai I can order the same thing every time.”
Sherlock grumbled.
“If you want something different then you can order it,” John said.
“We’ll have Thai!”

Date: 2020-04-30 02:10 pm (UTC)Fill: JinCha, AO3-T; a nice, quiet meal (with you)
Date: 2020-05-01 02:21 am (UTC)Eunwoo nodded and nudged the bowl of japchae toward him with his spoon.
Jinwoo inhaled happily. He loved sweet potatoes. He served himself some, then grabbed some kimchi and some small seafood vegetable pancakes.
When it was just the two of them like this, there was no need for conversation. There were no cameras, no staff or reporters, no chance of fans happening across them. They were in the safety and comfort of the dorms. Neither of them had had to get made up that day. Some days Jinwoo looked in the mirror and thought he’d forgotten what he really looked like.
He ate quietly, contemplating the flavors and textures. He really did miss his mother’s cooking so much.
The pork strips smelled amazing, as did the marinated barbecued beef. Jinwoo hummed happily to himself. Fans - and their parents - would be either appalled or confused at this meal, because they were eating without talking, Jinwoo staring into nothing while he enjoyed the food, Eunwoo behind an actual paperback book, because the opportunity to enjoy a book in relative peace and quiet was rare, and Eunwoo loved books in a way that would have earned him much more mockery if he weren’t as good-looking and athletic as he was.
“Where did you order from?” Jinwoo asked, after sampling some of the sweet heoddeok pancakes. “I don’t recognize this sauce.”
“I cooked,” Eunwoo said absently, turning a page.
Jinwoo focused on him. “You cooked all of this?”
Eunwoo nodded and used his chopsticks to pop a piece of pork into his mouth. He chewed slowly, reading intently.
“For just the two of us?” Jinwoo sat up straighter.
Eunwoo turned another page.
Jinwoo eyed him. Minhyuk was the team chef, enjoyed cooking for cooking’s sake - as well as feeding others - and Bin had managed to cook on camera one time without total disaster (as opposed to Sanha, who’s first ever attempt at cooking was on camera and almost resulted in food-poisoning Bin). Myungjun, on account of his training-free childhood, had probably arrived at training the best cook, and Jinwoo could cook ramyeun on the stove, but neither of them were much into cooking. Eunwoo was better at baking, because he was good at the precision that baking recipes required. Baking was science to him.
But for him to have cooked like this was - Jinwoo didn’t know what to think.
Eunwoo was still engrossed in his book.
Jinwoo ate slowly, savoring the taste but also studying Eunwoo, curious. And confused.
“Thank you,” Jinwoo said. “It’s really delicious. I’m impressed. What’s the occasion?”
Eunwoo didn’t seem to even hear him, turned another page in his book.
Jinwoo was even more confused - and then he felt it. A foot against his under the table. He stared at Eunwoo. It was just the two of them at the table. There was plenty of room for both of them, no reason to be knocking knees, not like when it was all six of them.
Eunwoo’s knee pressed against his, warm and firm, and then Jinwoo felt a foot slide up and down his calf.
He stared.
Eunwoo was, by all appearances, still completely engrossed in his book.
Jinwoo felt that leg tangle with his, slide even higher, and he swallowed hard. “What -” He coughed. “What are you doing?”
Eunwoo glanced at him over the top of his book, gaze heated. “Enjoying this nice, quiet meal with you. Why?”
Jinwoo took a deep breath. “Where did you say the others were again?” He should know. He was the leader. But Eunwoo’s foot was stroking even higher - when the hell had he gotten that flexible? - and Jinwoo’s brain was shorting out.
“Minhyuk’s working on new choreo. Bin and Sanha are meeting up with Kangmin. Myungjun is at additional vocal lessons now that he’s going to be doing that musical.”
Jinwoo swallowed hard. “Right.” He was starting to sweat. “How long will they be gone?”
“At least three more hours.”
Eunwoo’s foot was in Jinwoo’s lap, and he couldn’t think.
Jinwoo swatted Eunwoo’s foot aside, leaned across the table, and hauled him in for a kiss.
When they finally parted for breath, Eunwoo said, “Took you long enough.”

Date: 2020-04-30 02:13 pm (UTC)Fill -- What's for Dinner?
Date: 2020-05-01 09:50 am (UTC)“Do you think he’s pounding chicken breasts?” Sam asks in an undertone.
“Sounds more like he’s chopping something.”
Steve is right; Bucky dumps a pile of bright orange carrot circles into a bubbling pot on the stove. The whole kitchen smells strongly of onions.
“Hey, fellas. I’m making stew. We should eat good tonight!”
Bucky has a habit of making ‘stews’ that contain everything in the fridge that’s getting past its prime, which makes the end result somewhat hit-or-miss. Steve doesn’t seem to notice it’s not the Depression any more--the two of them are adamant about not ‘wasting’ food. Sam tries to remember what snacks he still has stashed in his go-bag in the closet in case tonight’s stew is inedible.
“There’s the rest of Sunday’s pot roast, those stuffed mushrooms, sliced…onions, celery, carrots,” he recounts. “And the rest of the spanish rice.”
Then Sam catches sight of something. It’s a bottle of wine that Tony gave them, uncorked, on the counter. Sam rubs his forehead. That’s some kind of super-vintage, he’d been hoping to save it for a special occasion. Apparently, ‘Thursday’ is now that occasion.
Half the bottle has gone into the pot, he surmises when they sit down for dinner. There’s a strong flavor of red wine and bay leaf. It helps tone down the onions.
There’s just enough left to give them each a glass. Bucky pours it out, a full glass each for Sam and Steve, and the remainder in his own glass, that’s less than them. “I had a taste while I was cooking,” Bucky confesses. “It’s pretty good.”
The wine is very good, and the stew, assisted by the choice vintage, isn’t bad, marking a victory in the kitchen for Bucky. Sam’s snacks are safe for another day.

Date: 2020-05-01 03:53 am (UTC)Barry wasn't typically a social person, but even he was starting to miss the simple social interaction of accepting paper bags full of warm food from a total stranger. He knew leaving it at the door was best for all parties involved but -
Barry hadn't spoken to anyone face-to-face for weeks now, and it was starting to get to him. The quarantine struggle was real.
Which is why he'd had this idea in the first place. Why he'd ordered food, set up his iPad in front of him.
Maybe his first "date" with Arthur Curry would be less awkward because they weren't in the same room. Or maybe it would make it that much worse.
Barry checked his smart watch. In another minute, it would be the time they had agreed on for the call. He started up the Facetime app and called Arthur.
Listening to the innocuous metallic ring was torture. Would Arthur even answer? Had he changed his mind?
Barry was about to hang up out of anxiety when Arthur's face appeared on the screen.
"Barry?"
"Y-yeah, I'm here," Barry stuttered. "Can you hear me?"
"Yeah, lemme just prop my phone up on something real fast." The screen became a blur of color and a cacophony of sound as Arthur maneuvered his phone haphazardly.
"Okay. Are we good?"
Barry stared at Arthur's muscular arms folded on the table in front of him, his messy long hair and beard, and suddenly couldn't breathe.
"Barry?"
Barry coughed. "Yeah, yeah, we're good. Sorry. Um, anyway. Hi. What's for dinner?"
Arthur slid a large bowl into frame. "Fish chowder. It's still pretty cold out here on the coast. Sounded good to me. What about you?"
Barry fidgeted with some of his takeout boxes. "I ordered Korean food."
"Well, show me what you got. Describe it. So it'll feel like I'm there with you."
Barry blinked, watched as Arthur suddenly stared into his bowl of soup like it was the most interesting thing in the world.
"Look, Arthur. We don't have to - this might have been a bad idea -"
"No, no, no. If it was a bad idea, I wouldn't have agreed to it. I just wish -"
"You were here?" Barry interrupted, and he regretted it almost instantly.
"Yeah, actually. Or that you were here. I made way too much chowder."
They sat in silence for a few moments. Arthur picked something up from off camera and held it up toward the screen - a bottle of beer.
"But at least we're able to do this. Cheers. Eat before your food gets cold."
Over the next hour, they talked about their food, what they'd been doing since quarantine had begun, and how strange it was to not be saving the world from something.
Barry put his leftovers in the fridge and slid back into his seat. Arthur was resting his chin on his hand and slowly but surely slumping onto his table.
"Thanks for indulging me by going on a virtual date with me," Barry said.
Arthur smiled and Barry felt his cheeks flush and his toes curl.
"Is it too forward of me to ask for a second date before the first has ended?" Arthur tried to hide his smile, but Barry could see that he was grinning like crazy.
"I don't think so. Maybe next time we can cook the same thing, too."
Arthur raised an eyebrow. "You cook?"
"I'm gonna pretend like I didn't hear that."
