Monday: 100 Words on the 1920s
Jun. 29th, 2020 12:03 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling decade-specific themes, using 100 words or any multiple of 100. Today’s theme is the 1920s. Your prompts and fills can be anything and everything related to life in the 20s, including decade-specific songs, events, and movie quotes!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Atlantis, Rodney McKay +/ Any, Rodney runs a speakeasy
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any, The Great Gatsby AU
+ Trixie Belden Mysteries/The Three Investigators, Trixie Belden/Jupiter Jones, Jupiter is a hard-boiled detective, but Trixie is definitely not the damsel in distress
+ Any K-pop/K-drama, Any m/m,
I'm through with flirtin'
It's just you I'm thinkin' of
Ain't misbehavin'
I'm savin' my love for you
(Fats Waller)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2020-06-29 12:51 pm (UTC)Tony took a drag off his cigarette. “Hm? That belongs to Dr. Strange.”
“Who?”
“That’s what everyone calls him. No one rightly knows his name. His parties are the bees’ knees, though. Pepper and I are always invited. You can come along.”
“Parties aren’t really my thing,” Peter admitted. Investment banking wasn’t really his thing, either. Every day he wondered if he should go back to Queens.
“If you’re out here, you gotta go,” Tony said.
“Are they that fun? Is Dr. Strange that impressive?”
Tony shrugged. “Never met the man. Like I said. The bees’ knees.”
“All right. Next one. Count me in.” Peter could be adventurous.
“Besides,” Tony added, “he’s your neighbor.”
“Neighbor? Maybe I’ve seen him.” Now Peter had to go to at least one party.
“Then you’re luckier than me.”
Only when Peter was finally in the crowd, it was chaos - bodies gyrating, liquor flowing and spilling, a haze of smoke, the din of music - and he didn’t feel so lucky. Pepper seemed bored. Tony too.
Pepper said, “There he is. Dr. Strange himself.”
Tony turned. His lips parted, and his eyes widened. He said, “Stephen?”

Date: 2020-06-29 02:08 pm (UTC)Lieutenant North was faced with those who told him the war was over, and he should get over it. He couldn’t explain the effects shell shock had on him and was looked on as weak and therefore contemptible.
It wasn’t until they teamed up they found a new place in life.

Date: 2020-06-29 07:05 pm (UTC)They were approaching a street seller, and John elbowed Sherlock in the ribs. “Chestnuts?” he asked.
“Why not?” Sherlock replied.
John smiled. It didn’t happen very often, but just occasionally they would enjoy a perfect evening together.

Date: 2020-06-29 12:28 pm (UTC)Fill (400): Danny Williams/Steve McGarrett
Date: 2020-06-30 12:03 am (UTC)He wasn’t fluent enough in French to explain Steve, though. His partner was up on the ledge of the hotel, dressed completely in black, caught by an ill-timed spotlight held by one of the local gendarmerie. If Danny had come on the scene unawares, he’d have thought they’d caught a burglar as well.
“Check my pocket,” Danny said to the officer currently threatening him with a baton.
He turned a little, offering up his back pocket. Danny was also dressed in black and had on a thin sweater instead of his usual suit, which meant there was little room for stowing important documents like his identification.
The gendarme removed the leather case and flipped it open, one of his compatriots offering his flashlight to assist in reading what was in there.
Five-0 International Investigations
International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC)
Daniel Williams, Investigator
There was an official seal and signature, and a tiny picture of Danny staring at the camera. If Steve wasn’t a complete goof, he’d have a very similar one on his person. Danny figured there was a fifty-fifty chance of that.
“You are ICPC?” the gendarme asked in heavily accented English. His disbelief wasn’t very flattering. “And your friend?”
“He’s ICPC too. We’re tracking a jewel thief, and we were pretty sure he was in this hotel. With all this bushwa, he’s probably taken off already.”
They’d been really close, too. Caffrey was a slippery fella, and Danny and Steve had tracked him over half of Europe before finally running him to ground in Paris.
“You can come down!” Danny yelled up to his partner.
A rope was produced, and Steve walked down the side of the hotel like a spider. It was risky, but it did funny things to Danny’s insides every time he saw Steve do it. If they’d been alone, he might have demonstrated his appreciation. As it was, the ICPC would take a dim view of fairies in their midst, so discretion was the better part of valor.
Luckily all their travel meant shared rooms were encouraged as being more cost effective.
For a wonder, Steve produced his ID and had a few words in French with the gendarme that had both of them cracking up.
“Let’s go, Tarzan,” Danny grumbled.
“We’ll get him next time, Danno,” Steve promised.

Date: 2020-06-29 02:06 pm (UTC)Fill (600): Evan Lorne/David Parrish
Date: 2020-06-29 07:43 pm (UTC)The canvases were landscapes, many of them with the river Seine as their subject. Evan didn’t think he’d ever tire of painting it. Sunrise, sunset, every hour in between, when the flowers were in bloom and when they weren’t. Sometimes he included one of the ubiquitous boats, or the Eiffel Tower, but just as often as not it was the river itself that was the focus.
“Un portrait, s'il vous plaît, monsieur.”
A young woman sat in the empty chair across from Evan, and he took a moment to pose her in the most pleasing way before pulling out his sketchbook. She was pretty, in a fresh-faced, innocent way, and he did his best to represent that with just a few strokes of his pencil.
“Merci beaucoup,” the woman said when Evan presented her with the sketch. She paid him and went on her way.
Almost an hour went by before someone else stopped, this time a man looking at the paintings. He was thin, his face narrow but interesting. And he was American, Evan could tell almost before he opened his mouth.
“Uh…These paintings. L’art. How much? Uh…Quel. No. Um.”
“The prices are marked on the back,” Evan said in amusement. The man blushed.
“Oh, you speak English.”
“I’m American,” Evan said. “Was there one in particular you wanted to see?”
The guy pointed to a canvas of the Seine at sunrise, light gleaming on the dew-covered purple wildflowers that grew along its edge.
“Those are Gourdon flowers, aren’t they?” he asked.
“Could be,” Evan replied. “I don’t really know much about them.”
He handed the canvas to the man, watched as he traced one finger delicately over the painted flowers. “I don’t care how much it is. I have to have it.”
Evan quoted him the price on the back, and then had to take the canvas back while the man dug through the pockets of his trousers and his suit coat. He finally located his money clip, and then Evan had to help him pull out the right amount of francs.
“You’re very nice,” the guy said gratefully.
Not so nice, because Evan was starting to have thoughts about the bashful, bumbling man who loved flowers so much. And the way he kept darting glances at Evan, perhaps the feeling was mutual.
“Would you be interested in taking dinner with me tonight?” Evan asked. “There’s a bistro down the way that makes an excellent chicken.”
More blushing, which only worked to charm Evan more.
“I’d like that. Oh. I’m David.”
“Evan.”
They shook hands and made plans to meet for dinner.
David, as it turned out, was a horticulturist who’d come to Europe on a tour of botanical gardens. He alluded to losses he’s incurred during the war, though Evan got the feeling he hadn’t served. It was hard to imagine such a shy wisp of a man in the heat of battle. Evan himself had been a pilot.
They talked all through dinner, David waxing poetic about various flowers and the gardens at Versailles, and Evan about his experiences since coming to Paris.
After dinner they took a walk on the bridge, and David surprised Evan by boldly stealing a kiss. They ended up watching the sun rise over the Seine together.

Date: 2020-06-29 02:09 pm (UTC)Fill (400) McShep + Evan
Date: 2020-06-29 06:41 pm (UTC)They were close to home today, downstairs from their apartment above the Atlantis Café. The corner table under the awning had become their regular haunt, and Rodney never had trouble moving along anyone who was foolish enough to sit there.
“How’s it coming?” John asked. He took another sip of his boulevardier cocktail, hold the lemon garnish.
Rodney just grunted back at him, still furiously writing in his notebook.
John had met Rodney after he’d come to Paris, eager to escape prohibition and his father’s expectations and the life he’d had before the war. They never talked much about it. Rodney knew John had been a pilot, John knew Rodney had worked for the War Department in some capacity. They didn’t need to know more than that. It was easy enough to see the scars left behind, both physical (in John’s case) and emotional (in Rodney’s).
Whatever it was that had driven Rodney to Paris, it hadn’t stopped his scientific mind from coming up with new theories and schematics and futuristic-sounding ponderings, which filled his notebooks.
When Rodney finally emerged, blinking into the dusk that was being lit by electric lamps and the candle in the middle of the table, he polished off his glass of wine and looked futilely for any leftover food on the table.
“You ate it all,” John said. “But we’re ready to order dinner.”
Evan joined them, tucking his easel and art box into the corner.
“Hey, fellas. You going to Athosia tonight? I heard Teyla’s performing.”
John glanced at Rodney, who still looked half in a daze. “I don’t think so.”
Some nights were meant for staying in.
They ordered dinner – sausages with spicy mustard – and then parted ways. John and Rodney went upstairs to their rooms with a bottle of wine and a bag full of pastries. With the windows open to the warm night air, they shared the food and drank the wine and loved each other as intimately as two people could.
As long as he had Rodney, John didn’t feel quite so lost.

“I’m going as quickly as I can,” John replied, “but you’re no lightweight.” Nevertheless, he stood up on the pedals to get up as much speed as he could. “And I can’t see where we’re going.”
That soon became only too apparent as the bike rammed into a rubbish bin and the pair fell off. They hurriedly got back up and ran off, laughing as they did so.

Date: 2020-06-29 02:23 pm (UTC)Fill 700: Where your eyes linger/Merlin, Taejoo/Gook
Date: 2020-06-29 06:20 pm (UTC)“Angry, and half in love with him, and tremendously sorry, I turned away.” The beautiful young man sitting at the bar sighed and swirled his drink.
“And then what happened?” Gwaine asked, leaning on the bar, expression earnest.
“And then my father sent his men to kidnap me, and after his men tried - and failed - to beat my darling Gookie back, we said our goodbyes, and here I am. Haven’t seen him in two years.” The young man sighed.
He looked to be of foreign extraction, but his English was impeccable.
Gwaine raised his eyebrows. “Your father sent his men to kidnap you?”
The man smiled, sweet but a little sad. “He would never lay a hand on me. But he warned me not to get into trouble, because he was free to lay a hand on Gook. I didn’t think my loving him would be so much trouble.”
“And you just left your lad behind?”
“I’m the only son. When I inherit, I’ll do what I want with the money. I’ll buy a dozen assemblymen so the marriage I want becomes legal in my country and throw a lavish wedding, the wedding of the century, and laugh as my father turns in his grave.”
Gwaine laughed. “I like your style. But does your lad know that’s what you want?”
“I’ll tell him when I see him.”
“And when will you see him?”
The young man straightened up, checked a very expensive watch. “My flight home leaves in three hours. I’m headed to the airport now. Thank you for being a sympathetic ear. If you’re ever in South Korea and need a place to stay, look me up.” He winked, slid a business card across the bar, scooped up a long coat, and grabbed a rolling suitcase that Gwaine hadn’t even noticed, and headed for the door.
Gwaine watched him go, admiring. “Well, he’s got some gumption.”
A moment later, Arthur arrived. “You! Where have you been? You said you were going to stand the next round and - hang on. Why are you behind the bar? Isn’t that Merlin’s place?”
“Got held up, is all,” Gwaine said. He pocketed the business card. “Say, if the only heir to a wealthy businessman decided he was in love with his best mate, who was sort of his servant and/or bodyguard, how do you think that would go for him? If he confessed.”
Arthur turned several fascinating shades of red. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Get the drinks already.” He stomped away.
“What kind of bee is in his bonnet?” Merlin asked, wielding several tankards at once.
Gwaine said, “True love, I suspect.”
“Oh, where did Taejoo go? He was just here.”
“Taejoo?” Gwaine echoed. “Ah. He left. To go find his lad.”
Merlin smiled. “Good.”
“Just so you know,” Gook said, drawing back from the kiss. “You’re insane. When your father finds out -”
“We’ll be safe, I promise.” Taejoo pressed a kiss to his cheek, then held out a hand.
“What’s this?” It was some kind of crystal on a chain.
“A gift, from a friend. To keep you safe.” Taejoo held the necklace out, and Gook ducked his head, let Taejoo clasp it around his neck.
The chain was cool against Gook’s skin. He tucked the charm away.
“So, you’re not going to Japan anymore, right?” Taejoo asked.
Gook looked down at the ticket. “Well -”
“Well you won’t lose a lot of money if you change it,” Taejoo said. He laced his fingers with Gook’s. “Come on.”
“Where are we going?”
“You’re coming back to England with me,” Taejoo said.
“What? Why?”
“I promised my father I’d put my head down and finish university there,” Taejoo said. “So I’m going to finish university and then take over the company.”
“Pretty sure your father won’t think that you living with me is you putting your head down and being obedient,” Gook said, but he allowed Taejoo to tow him over to where a car was waiting.
“I don’t care what my father thinks. But I do care about getting what I want. And what I want is you.”
Taejoo’s smile was even more beautiful than Gook had remembered.
