Hello, everyone. I’m
nagi_schwarz and today's theme is poem titles. Prompts can be anything related to the titles of poems - the name of a poem, or a section in a poem, or the first line of a poem that is technically untitled, or fusions or crossovers with fandoms set in epic poems, like Sir Gawain and the Green Knight or Beowulf.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate SG-1, Daniel Jackson, because I would not stop for death (Emily Dickinson)
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers +/ Bucky Barnes (+/ Sam Wilson), War is Kind (Stephen Crane)
+ BBC Merlin, Arthur Pendragon, My Papa’s Waltz (Theodore Roethke)
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett +/ Danny Williams, to me he seems like a god (Sappho)
+ MI-5|Spooks, any, pity this busy monster, manunkind (e e cummings)
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2020 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2020-07-27 05:34 pm (UTC)When he’d stumbled upon the virtual gaming platform on the Ancient server, he’d been delighted. Importing over Earth games had been a breeze. Finding players had been even easier.
Playing games was a great way to while away time in the lab. Science wasn’t all go, go, go. It was a lot of sitting around and babysitting instruments while the instruments took the actual measurements, and scientists needed entertainment in the meantime.
Rodney preferred to keep his mind sharp by playing games of intellect. Setting up leaderboards and establishing weekly prizes for winners - booze, chocolate - had encouraged other scientists to join in.
TheGreat1968 remained firmly at the top of the leaderboards, of course.
ZZTop - Zelenka - was close behind him.
No one seemed to know who the third-ranked BlueBellFlying was, though. Not Parrish, who insisted he’d have gone with a more specific name, since bluebells could refer to hyacinthoides non-scripta or campanula rotundifolia, and they were very different.
ZZTop was annoyed when BlueBellFlying unseated him.
Rodney was amused when BlueBellFlying came after him.
There were plenty of non-scientists in the ranks, including John - Ferris200 - and other military officers, since plenty of them liked chess. Rodney had had fun taking them down - and had refused to admit when some of them had been harder fights than he’d expected, though he’d expected John to be a very hard fight indeed.
Perhaps BlueBellFlying was a military officer.
So Rodney started keeping watch, as he went about his days. More than one person had the virtual game system open on their computers as they worked. Some people had little travel chess boards at their desks to plan their moves.
Rodney was in the chow line behind Major Sarcastic, the one with the blue eyes and the dimples, who’d been with Rodney the first time he met Ronon, and he noticed the man had a pencil tucked behind his ear. He was balancing a data tablet on his arm while he carried his lunch tray.
He glanced at Rodney, smiled briefly. “Hey, Doc.”
“Hey, Major.” Rodney couldn’t remember the man’s name, but who needed names? Ranks were safe.
Just as the man reached the dessert section, his tablet buzzed.
A notification popped up.
A chess move.
He paused, took the pencil from behind his ear, scratched something on his napkin, and then grabbed a brownie. He ambled away from the line.
Rodney wondered what his username was.
Back in the lab, Zelenka was swearing at his virtual chessboard.
“What now?” Rodney asked, settling in front of his laptop.
“BluebellFlying,” Miko said.
Zelenka gestured wildly at his laptop, then made another move.
BlueBellFlying’s response was fast. Too fast to be wise. But Zelenka swore again.
Rodney laughed.
Maybe he’d throw this game against BlueBellFlying just to see who showed up to collect the prize that week.
Only he didn’t have to throw a game, because he started losing this game, and badly.

Date: 2020-07-27 03:46 pm (UTC)Fill: Evan Lorne/David Parrish
Date: 2020-07-28 04:18 am (UTC)He couldn’t stop looking at the coffin, draped in an American flag.
There were plenty of men and women in uniform seating among the mourners, and others standing by do the gun salute thing once the funeral was over. David hated that part, it always made him jump.
Evan reached over and took hold of David’s hand. He was one of the men in uniform, come to the funeral of a fallen comrade.
“It’s almost over,” Evan murmured, leaning close.
He gave David a little smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. The man being buried – Lieutentant Colonel Falcon Webber – had been a childhood friend of Evan’s, from back on the commune. They’d joined the Air Force at the same time, went through the Academy together. David had never met Falcon. But he was important to Evan, and Evan was important to David, so he was there to offer moral support.
The most difficult part of the proceedings was watching the flag be removed and very neatly folded into a triangle, which was presented to Falcon’s widow.
David could well imagine being in her place. Life in Pegasus was dangerous, even now, and he recalled vividly ever near-miss Evan had had. Would there be such a ceremony for Evan one day? Would David be handed a flag that was meant to symbolize everything Evan had given for his country?
If declassification never happened, no-one would know everything Evan and the rest of the expedition had done for planet Earth and everyone on it. They’d never know how brave Evan was, how selfless. That flag would never be able to encompass Evan’s humanity, his kindness, his power with both a paintbrush and a whisk, his ability to chase the nightmares away with a touch and a murmured word.
The guns fired, making David flinch, and then the ceremony was over. Everyone would go back to Falcon’s mother’s house for food and to share their stories of Falcon. David would be shy and awkward, as he always was, and Evan would make sure to include him in conversations, as he always did.
“We don’t have to go,” Evan said as people started drifting toward the parking lot. “We can go back to Mom’s instead.”
David leaned in for a quick kiss. “No. It’s important for you to go. Besides, I’ve had a hankering for some casserole.”
Evan grinned, and this time he meant it. “Forget-me-not.”
It was their special code for I love you, the language of flowers. David stole another kiss, and then they walked out of the cemetery together, hand-in-hand.
David hoped like hell he never lived to see that flag passed to him.
