Monday: Reality TV
Sep. 7th, 2020 12:02 amHi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be filling TV-related themes. So don’t touch that dial! Today’s theme is Reality TV. There are a million varieties to choose from, including competitions (both musical and Survivor-type), gameshows, travel shows, foodie shows, that kind of thing. Any kind of prompt will do – titles, quotes, fusions, you get the idea.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Stargate Multiverse, Any, Naked and Afraid
+ Marvel Cinematic Universe, Any, I’d Never Do It to You (Survivor)
+ Any K-pop, any ensemble, filming a ghost hunting series
+ Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, Total Drama Island
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2020-09-07 01:05 pm (UTC)“Dibs!” Minhyuk, Hyungwon, and Jooheon cried, all flinging themselves at Hyunwoo, who staggered but didn’t lose his balance.
Changkyun accepted his camera and inspected it. “What am I, chopped liver?”
Kihyun went to stand beside him. “Here, I’ll pair with you.”
Minhyuk successfully linked his arm through Hyunwoo’s. There was no question that one of Hyunwoo’s partners would be Hoseok, who already had his hand curled through Hyunwoo’s and was smiling sweetly and looked incredibly nervous, given that he could bench press any one of his teammates.
“What, no Mom and Dad?” Hyungwon asked, reluctantly standing beside Jooheon, who was already shifting his weight from foot and foot and looking anxious.
Kihyun turned his nose up at being called Mom.
The PD remained off camera, but she had a pleasant, if authoritative voice.
“Today’s hunt is at Yeongdeok House. Which of you did your homework?”
Kihyun cleared his throat virtuously.
But it was Changkyun who said, “Seven hundred soldiers died here during the Battle of Incheon. Also this house was built on the site of a graveyard.”
Jooheon whimpered.
Sometimes the others forgot that for all that Changkyun was a rebel, he was the one of them who’d been on track to go to one of the best science magnet schools in the country, and he was as brilliant as he was fiercely savage.
“In addition to your cameras, you’ll have some EMF readers to see if you can pick up the recordings of any ghostly voices or images,” the PD said. “The cameras have IR mode so you can see temperature drops when ghosts appear.”
“Right,” Changkyun drawled, skeptical.
Hoseok’s hand in Hyunwoo’s tightened.
Hyunwoo squeezed back, a silent I’ve got you.
“All Hyungwon’s EMF reader is going to get is hymns from Jooheon,” Minhyuk murmured.
Hyunwoo said, “My great uncle fought in the Battle of Incheon.”
Hoseok turned to him, expression sober.
Hyungwon said to Jooheon, “The house has been abandoned for a long time and it’s falling apart. Watch your step.”
“Rock paper scissors to see which team goes in first?” Kihyun asked.
Hyunwoo, Kihyun, and Hyungwon played rock paper scissors. Naturally, Hyungwon and Jooheon had to go in first. Hyunwoo knew that camera operators and staff from the show’s production team were already in the house to capture footage as well, but he was nervous all the same, because he knew Jooheon was scared easily. It wouldn’t be quite as bad as the time Hoseok went bungee jumping, but it would be close.

The next hour was punctuated by sounds of ‘That one,’ ‘How about that?’, ‘Maybe,’ ‘No, I don’t think so’, until finally they both chorused together ‘That’s the one’ and sat back on the sofa in triumph.
Later, when Adam heard the television switched off and he had decided it was safe to enter the lounge, he said, “So what is it to be this week?”
“Steph’s Raspberry and Chocolate Fudge Cake,” Wes replied.
“Perfection in dark chocolate and raspberries,” Lucas added with a grin.

Date: 2020-09-24 03:06 am (UTC)His world was small, yes, but it was safe. He went to classes, he went to his part-time job, he spent time with his parents. Sometimes he played soccer or basketball with his friends. He didn’t mind that he never left his little town, because there was always something going on - the azalea festival, the art show, concerts from popular artists, productions of popular musicals and plays. It was like living in a big city, but without the noise and bustle of traffic. He could ride his bicycle everywhere.
Except off the island, of course.
His mother was always trying new things, and she was very kind and would explain them to him before she tried them - new foods, new drinks, new kitchen gadgets. Sometimes she kept them, sometimes she didn’t. It made him sad, sometimes, that she didn’t keep the gadgets he liked, but there was always something new.
And then one day he met Minhyuk.
Minhyuk wasn’t like the other students at school. They only stayed for one semester and then moved on - Dongmin’s school was for gifted students, but only a few could make the cut, and besides Jinwoo and Myungjun, Dongmin was the only steady student.
Minhyuk wasn’t as quick at math and science - but he was incredibly physically gifted. He could run. He could jump. He could do all kinds of acrobatic tricks - his father had been a gymnast, he said. He had his fourth degree black belt in taekwondo.
And he could dance. Tap, jazz, modern, hip-hop - and ballet.
When he danced, he was beautiful.
Dongmin loved to watch him dance.
Dongmin knew other students watched him. Dongmin knew he was handsome; he wasn’t naive, and he’d looked in a mirror before, and his mother had taught him how to take care of his skin and comb his hair and dress well when he wasn’t in his uniform. Dongmin also knew he shouldn’t be proud of his looks, because he’d been born with them, but he could also lose them at any moment, and besides, his smarts would get him further in life, and he ought to work hard at those.
But he couldn’t help watching Minhyuk dance.
Minhyuk watched him back, but not like the other students watched him.
One day, between classes, Minhyuk caught Dongmin and dragged him into an empty stairwell.
“Tonight, you should come swimming with me,” Minhyuk said.
That gave Dongmin pause. “I don’t know how to swim.”
Minhyuk said, “I can teach you.”
Dongmin bit his lip. “Well, I -”
Minhyuk leaned up on his toes and kissed Dongmin on the mouth.
Dongmin’s heart skipped a beat.
Minhyuk pulled back enough to whisper, “You should run away with me. Meet me at the dock at midnight?”
Dongmin said, “Okay.”
But when he approached the dock, Minhyuk wasn’t alone. Several people in uniforms Dongmin didn’t recognize were standing with him, arguing with him. They grabbed him. They dragged him away.
Dongmin started toward him.
Minhyuk kicked and struggled.
He shouted, “Free Dongmin!” before someone got a hand over his mouth.
Dongmin never saw Minhyuk again.
But he dreamed of that kiss, and he wondered what Minhyuk had meant. Dongmin was free, wasn’t he?
And then one day a light fell from the sky.

Date: 2020-09-07 04:53 pm (UTC)“You don’t think Legos are too childish a present for someone’s sweet sixteen?” Pepper asked.
She had also contributed a sizeable gift card to Lego World, just in case.
“Not at all. Peter loves Legos,” Scott said, with the supreme confidence of a father.
Clint nodded his agreement. He’d bought a very special Lego set that involved pirates and ninjas. “They’re educational and he builds Legos with his friends, so they encourage his social skills.”
“What special Legos did you buy?” Vision asked Tony.
Tony held up a set of car keys. “I didn’t buy Legos.”
Natasha pursed her lips. “Of course you bought him a car for his sixteenth birthday.”
“He needs to get his driver’s license first,” Sam said.
“Did you talk to Aunt May about it?” Pepper asked.
“Please say you got him a Ferrari or something ridiculously expensive,” Bucky said.
“Peter’s a New York native. He’s fine with public transport,” Steve said, nudging Bucky disapprovingly.
Stephen placed a bright red tool box with a bow on it on the table beside the rest of the gifts. “No, in the grand tradition of Americana, we bought him an old clunker we can fix up together. That’s how I did it with my dad when I turned sixteen.”
The others sobered. Peter had neither his father nor his uncle for this sixteenth birthday.
Jarvis said, “Peter Parker has arrived. I shall dim the lights. Places, everyone.”

Date: 2020-09-07 02:31 pm (UTC)Fill!
Date: 2020-09-07 05:40 pm (UTC)He’d already given the house a thorough cleaning, but he kept going back over it to needlessly, anxious to make a good first impression. There wasn’t a speck of dust or an old bread crumb to be found anywhere.
What if Evan didn’t like the farm? What if Evan didn’t like David?
David told himself he was silly to worry. Evan was the one who’d chosen David’s profile on Love A Farmer, had been the one to start up a conversation. Text messages had turned to phone conversations, and those had turned to video chats. Now, after weeks and weeks, they were finally meeting in person.
At precisely one o’clock, a silver SUV turned up the long drive to the house. David didn’t know what he should do. He could play it cool and wait for Evan to knock on the front door. Or look over-eager and wait on the porch. He watched from the window as the SUV pulled in front of the house and parked. When Evan got out, David didn’t have to think at all. He just went to meet him.
“It’s beautiful out here,” Evan said.
You’re beautiful, David wanted to say. Evan wasn’t very tall, but he was strong, his black t-shirt showing off well-muscled arms and hints of his tattoos. Blue eyes, dark hair, dimples…David couldn’t believe someone like Evan had chosen him.
“Welcome to the farm,” David said.
He was startled when Evan came in for a hug, but then he melted into it. Evan’s arms were just as strong as they looked.
David showed him around the farm, first. In an area full of dairy farms and corn fields and soybeans, David’s farm stood out. He worked in hydroponics, growing plants without the use of soil, and the local farmers didn’t think much of it. Aside from the two college students who helped out, David didn’t really have any friends. That’s why he’d turned to a dating app to start with.
“This is amazing,” Evan said as they went through one of the three barns.
“It’s good for the environment,” David explained. “We use less water than a normal agricultural farm, and hydroponics can make fresh produce available in even the harshest environments.”
“That’s why I like you,” Evan said. “You’re trying to make the world a better place.”
David blushed. “Let me show you the animals.”
In addition to the plants, the farm had also accumulated several rescue animals. David was a botanist, not a zoologist, but he couldn’t turn away an animal in need. He had two horses, an elderly goat, three dogs, and an alpaca.
“I was nervous meeting you,” Evan admitted as they walked back to the house.
“Me?” David asked, surprised. “Why?”
“You seemed too good to be true,” Evan said. “I’ve been burned a couple times in the past. But I think you really are as good as you seem.”
A wave of affection rolled over David, and he reached out to take Evan’s hand.
“There’s a lot more I want to show you.”
“I can’t wait to see it,” Evan said, squeezing David’s hand.

Date: 2020-09-07 03:19 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Prodigal Son/Buzzfeed Unsolved, Jessica Whitly + Ryan Bergara + Shane Madej
Date: 2020-09-08 02:36 am (UTC)“Gentlemen. Please come in.” Jessica stood aside to let her guests through the door, which she closed behind them. “This way.”
She led them into the parlor, where she’d set out lemonade and cookies.
“This is really nice, thank you,” Mr. Bergara said politely.
His tall companion seemed a little disappointed. Jessica wondered if he’d been expecting a full tea service.
“Please help yourself.”
Jessica settled herself on the sofa across from them, smoothing the skirt of her dress. She’d gone for a motherly, nineteen-fifties era ensemble to put Mr. Bergara and Mr. Madej more at ease and reinforce that the house was someone’s actual home, and not some sort of terrible museum to the crimes of her husband.
“I appreciate you coming. I know that’s probably not how you usually work.”
“Anything we can do to put your mind at ease, Mrs. Whitly,” Mr. Bergara said.
Mr. Madej spoke up for the first time. “Quite frankly, I was surprised you agreed to our request.”
Jessica nodded. She’d received countless requests from investigators of all kind, from amateurs on YouTube to more professional groups like Kindred Spirits and Ghost Hunters, and she’d flatly refused every one of them.
“I think you and Mr. Bergara –”
“No need to be so formal. It’s just Ryan and Shane,” Mr. Bergara interrupted.
Jessica raised her eyebrow.
“Sorry.”
“As I was saying, I think your unique approach would be the best to represent my family home.” Jessica picked up a glass of lemonade and took a dainty sip. “I trust you to remind your viewing audience that my children grew up here, that despite what happened we’ve had happy lives in this house.”
Ryan and Shane exchanged a look.
“Ryan gets a little carried away with the ghost business,” Shane said, “but our team’s research is pretty thorough. We’ll tell the story based on the facts.”
“And one of your facts will be that no-one ever died in this house. I want to be very clear about that.”
Jessica didn’t know if that was true. But she couldn’t bear thinking about some poor young woman breathing out her last breath, terrified, while the children were asleep in their rooms. Surely not even Martin would defile his own home that way.
She steadfastly refused to think of the woman in the box.
“This house was built by my great-great-great-grandfather and has always been in my family. There are no Milton ghosts here.”
Ryan leaned forward, elbows on his knees. “Mrs. Whitly, if you’re so sure there aren’t ghosts here, why did you agree to let us do an investigation?”

Date: 2020-09-07 05:44 pm (UTC)Fill: Lorne + Marines, gen
Date: 2020-09-08 02:53 am (UTC)The kitchen looks like a tornado has hit it.
Half of the KP Marines are covered in flour.
The other half of the Marines are covered in something else.
They’re all standing at attention.
Lorne’s expression is unreadable.
One of the Marines ducks his chin and snickers.
“This ain’t reality TV!” Lorne’s voice cracks like a whip.
All of the Marines flinch, and the one who snickered immediately looks terrified.
“I don’t care who started it. Clean this up. You’re all on latrine duty for a week. You’re all off gate rotation for a week.”
They all chorus Yes, sir! and then scramble for the cleaning cupboard.
Lorne takes a deep breath, and another, and another. Then he taps his radio. “KP squad B, initiate Dinner Protocol Beta.”
“What’s Dinner Protocol Beta?” Chloe whispers to her guide.
Captain Cadman says, “Just watch.”
Another group of Marines swarms the kitchen, grabs some catering carts, starts loading them with - condiments: three different kinds of mustard, ketchup, homemade sauerkraut, pickle relish, barbecue sauce, homemade sriracha sauce, and kimchi. Hotdog buns. Hamburger buns. Bags of different types of chips. Some start chopping ingredients for salads. Some start chopping lettuce and onion and tomatoes and mushrooms and avocados and other burger and hotdog toppings.
Several grills are wheeled out of the kitchen and through an open door that leads to a balcony.
Through the open door, Chloe can see more Marines unfolding and arranging long tables. For a buffet line.
“Wow,” Chloe says.
Lorne looks calmer. He takes another breath, smiles at Chloe. She slides closer to him to ask a question, but then he ducks his chin, listening to an incoming transmission on his radio, and his brow furrows ever so slightly, and he takes off.
“Damn,” one of the Marines says once he’s out of earshot. “He looked pissed.”
“I wonder what he looks like when he’s really mad,” Chloe says.
“No,” another Marine says, “you really don’t.”
