Date: 2021-01-23 07:12 pm (UTC)At Liberty, At Will, Hector+/Isaac (Castlevania animated 'verse) -- part 1
Date: 2021-08-30 04:30 am (UTC)The first full moon after the last vampire left the castle -- and, presumably, all of Styria -- one of Isaac's night creatures brought a relatively fresh corpse of a deer to the courtyard. It wouldn't let any of the others near it, but it wasn't out of selfishness or greed for the meat. The creature simply waited, curled and coiled around its offering, for the two human masters of the castle to visit the fountain as they'd begun to do during their, now daily, walks together.
Isaac was mildly surprised, but the night creature purred at his gentle praise and head pats while Hector examined the body more closely. Isaac didn't need to watch Hector to know that the deer had earned his keen interest. From where he stood, it appeared the animal had suffered a fall injury as it had tried to escape a predator, and then had somehow avoided falling prey to a scavenger as well. Broken bones and dirtied fur, but otherwise intact.
"Would you bring her to my forging table, please?" Hector asked quietly, and before Isaac could reply to him or nod to give instruction, his night creature carefully lifted the deer and flew in that direction. Isaac hummed and Hector stood, both watching. Its fellows didn't try to bother it as it went, but it didn't re-emerge from one of the windows, instead waiting for Hector to arrive.
"That one has been curious about natural creatures. We spoke about a rabbit pelt it had found not a week ago," Isaac said, before amending, "Well, I did most of the talking, of course."
"Of course," Hector repeated with a nod. They fell into step once more as they made their way to Hector's workspace. "You... don't mind that it listened to me so easily?"
"It knew our intentions. That I wouldn't deny it permission. That neither of us would reject its gift. Nor would we be planning a venison meal or three in the near future." Hector shot Isaac a smile as they turned at a corner.
"I suppose those are all true," he said with a short laugh. They took a few more paces before he spoke again. "Will you be naming that one soon, too?" Isaac glanced at him and forward once more.
"Are you teasing me, Hector?"
"What? No. No, I'm in no position to tease you." He relaxed a little. "In fact, I can offer suggestions, if you'd like."
"With the others, I asked them what I may call them," Isaac said, his speech as even as his pace. "Only one of my suggestions has received a resounding 'no' thus far."
"That's a pretty good record. What was the undesirable name, if I may ask?"
"I would prefer not to say, but perhaps you can give it a second chance. Unless you've already thought of something for your deer."
At Liberty, At Will, Hector+/Isaac (Castlevania animated 'verse) -- part 2 (end)
Date: 2021-08-30 04:33 am (UTC)"I haven't settled on one yet, no. So, what was the name?" Hector picked up his hammer, weighing it between his hands.
With his gaze on the deer and not on either of his companions, Isaac quietly answered, "Heather."
Hector gave the name some consideration. Then he was nodding as he prepared his hammer.
"Yes. Heather it is."
He struck the table, and blue light filled the room.
A couple of days later, Isaac and Hector stood together on the castle grounds. They watched hooves dance and a short bushy tail swish in the air as Isaac's night creature followed and retreated from Heather the deer in play, its wings fluttering and long, scaly tail slithering. The doe had needed an adjustment period and remained wary of a couple of night creatures, despite receiving no aggression from them, but overall it was unexpectedly brief and without incident. Perhaps because one creature was quick to try to befriend her.
"I think you should offer to call it 'Lucerne,'" Hector said without preamble, the thought suddenly occurring to him. He immediately began to backpedal and fill in Isaac's silence with apologies and self-conscious remarks until Isaac held up a placating hand, a small smile shining in his eyes more than on his face.
"That is not a bad suggestion. Thank you, Hector."
"Ah." Hector shyly smiled back. "You're welcome."
(Lucerne is another name for alfalfa, btw. I was thinking about "Treffy" and how clover is aka trefoil, and then by complete accident I got other forms of ground cover that look/sound kinda like "heathen" and "Lucifer"... XD;;; Language is weird. My brain is weird. It works out, I guess.)

Date: 2022-09-27 12:43 am (UTC)Barbara stiffened. "What's wrong, Steph?" This far into finals, Stephanie's was the last voice she'd expected to hear on the patrol comm line.
"Do you know if it's possible to punch a computer program in the face? Because right now I really, really want to."
She snorted. "Believe me, I know the feeling. Give me a second to access your system."
"You're a lifesaver!"
She smirked. "What would you do without me?"
"Probably die and fail all my classes - in that order."
