Mickey had butterflies dancing in his stomach. His mouth was clammy, his palms were sweaty, and he felt flushed. This was all Ian's fault, stupid adorable Gingerbread. Ian persuaded him to go on a real date; he put on a nice shirt and they went to a nice restaurant where they ate not with their fingers but with proper utensils. He was beyond nervous as he follows Ian out on to the ice-skating rink, his stomach rolling and his skin buzzes, it feels like electric shocks, but even as nervous as he was, this was the best night of his life. It was their first date and as sappy as it was, he was grinning like a silly fool in love.

Mickey thought Hell would freeze over before he got the chance to go on a date, he couldn't see doing something so...domestic. Even though Mickey had no idea how to skate when Ian asked him out with that smitten lovey dove look in his eyes, Mickey couldn't say no.

Mickey spent most of the date flailing his arms like an idiot and falling more times than he could count. But that didn’t matter; he was so excited to spend an evening with Ian. Slipping and sliding on the ice rink, he fell more times than he could count. When he managed to stay upright, he glided around the skating rink waving his arms like an uncoordinated dork.

Ian, having grown up with younger siblings, spent time on the ice over the winter years, and he was a pro at ice skating and glided around the rink with grace, never falling or stumbling once.

Mickey, however, resembled the wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. “Shit, I’m going to fall. I’m…”

“No, you’re not.” Ian took hold of Mickey’s hands and interlaced their fingers together. “Just relax your knees and glide. I’ve gotcha.”

The pair faced each other as they slid around the rink; Ian was skating backwards, pulling Mickey with him as Mick skated towards him. His legs were a little steadier now that Ian helped him but the feeling of Ian’s hands in his did nothing to settle the butterflies in his stomach.

That same tingling feeling warmed Mickey's tummy; Ian’s hands were warm and soft, and he was grinning with the brightest smile that Mickey had ever seen.

Together, they managed to make it around the rink a few times and not once did Ian let go of Mickey and he never stopped smiling and when Ian slid up beside him and wrapped an arm around his waist, steadying him as they skated side-by-side, Mickey felt his cheeks flare rosy red as a joyous grin smiled on his lips.

The two men gazed into each other’s eyes as they glided together, moving as one. They learned in closer, lips almost touching. The moment was perfect, sweet and romantic, and when Ian kisses him as the glided around the skating rink, Mickey’s heart felt like it had wings as pure love filled his soul.

"What do you mean the car won't start?"

For all its wheezing, the junk bucket had never failed on her brother before. Now, all she could do was listen to the engine sputter as he turned the key. Kristy felt her heart suddenly race as the aged car gave a weak roar before it slammed to a stop against her ribs when its last sputtered cough came to a choking silence.

"It's not like I don't want it to start!" Charlie leaned his palms flat against the center of the steering wheel.

"Then get it started!" Her voice echoed off the car's windows, bouncing back into her ears like a pinball. Her cheeks flamed. Hurriedly, she hid them behind her soaked palms. Kristy would never let a kid use that tone of voice with her.

Her stomach was a hard knot dragging down her body. She dared not look at her wristwatch. No doubt, her friends were sitting across town, their knees pulled to their chests and eyes also locked on the clock — when they weren't flitting back to Claudia's door. Mary Anne would be concerned. Kristy could just see her pulling at the ends of her hair, her mind concocting all sorts of far-fetched reasons for why she hadn't arrived yet. Would Mary Anne even have the guts to look at the empty director's chair? Claudia would never forget the incident. One missed meeting on Kristy's part could excuse her own every future infraction. Stacey might care. She might not. What did it matter to her as long as she got her dues and bag of sugar-free gummy bears?

And Dawn? Out of everyone, Kristy could see her face clearest. That wide grin, her relaxed shoulders but straight back. She couldn't blame Dawn, not really. Kristy gritted her teeth. Who wouldn't be happy to be president?
