Tuesday - second chances
Mar. 2nd, 2021 05:50 amLittle old
momma_66 here. Yesterday we took care of ourselves and maybe today we're feeling more forgiving than usual. Today's theme is Second Chances. While not everyone deserves one, a second chance can change everything.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Cobra Kai, Daniel LaRusso + Johnny Lawrence, they go out for drinks in 1.2
+ Miraculous Ladybug, Ladybug + Queen Bee, Ladybug actually sits Queen Bee down and talks to her, giving Chloe a real second chance
+ Any, Any + Any, whatever stupid fight that caused Character A and Character B to fight was resolved with c o m m u n i c a t i o n
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-03-02 10:29 pm (UTC)Fill: At Eighteen, Jung Ohje & Ma Hwiyeong
Date: 2021-03-24 03:05 am (UTC)Ma Hwiyeong.
“What are you doing here?” Ohje hated how his voice cracked.
Hwiyeong said, “Mind your own business,” and pushed past Ohje, headed into the building.
Ohje spun around and saw Hwiyeong go past the reception desk and head into the staff area.
At the desk, Gowoon didn’t even blink.
Ohje hurried over to her. “What’s Ma Hwiyeong doing here?” he asked in a low voice, trying to sound calm. He didn’t want to make a scene, but he still remembered how Hwiyeong had relentlessly bullied Joonwoo, how at Hwiyeong’s behest Gitae had paid students from another school to assault Joonwoo’s best friend and cause him to drop out of school and then he’d died and --
“Hwiyeong-ssi?” Gowoon blinked behind her large glasses, unconcerned. “He’s a volunteer here. He comes by every night after wherever he works. He cleans up and does admin and stuff. He’s really smart, really good. Helps balance the books and whatnot.”
Even though Hwiyeong had cheated and his rich parents had bullied teachers into essentially cheating for him, he had been smart, good at school.
“He volunteers here?” Ohje echoed.
Hwiyeong volunteered at a community center for queer teens?
Gowoon nodded. “Yeah. You know him?”
“We went to the same high school,” Ohje said. He didn’t add that Hwiyeong had dropped out, that he’d once had a crippling crush on Hwiyeong even though Hwiyeong had been a relentless bully to his best friend, and Ohje’s feelings for Hwiyeong had only compounded how complicated his feelings about being gay in general were.
Gowoon smiled. “It’ll be nice for you to have a familiar face around, then.”
“Yeah,” Ohje said weakly.
And then he saw the time and dashed for his motorcycle, because he had to get to campus or he’d be late for his next class.
But he rarely saw Hwiyeong at the community center when he went for his mentoring sessions with the younger kids. He didn’t do anything intense, mostly led discussion groups and also pickup games of basketball, since those were the two things he was best at.
But then he headed into the back to grab some sticker nametags for an icebreaker game, and he ran into Hwiyeong.
“Hey,” he said.
“Hey,” Hwiyeong said, avoiding his gaze.
Ohje offered Hwiyeong a tentative smile, grabbed the box of nametags, and returned to the common room.
After the kids left, Ohje headed into the back to make himself a cup of cheap stick coffee. Hwiyeong was still there, poring over a ledger, a calculator to hand. For a moment, Ohje could imagine him in an old Cheonbong High uniform, pencil tucked behind one ear.
Would he have the stress rash on the inside of his wrist, hidden beneath an expensive watch?
His watch was cheap now. His hands looked rough, too, from heavy labor.
“How long have you been volunteering here?” Ohje asked.
“Just a few months,” Hwiyeong said without looking up. Then he said, “I’m not queer, so don’t get any ideas.”
Ohje said, “I don’t still have a crush on you, so don’t flatter yourself.”
Hwiyeong looked up. “I hope you’ve had at least one nice boyfriend since we last saw each other.”
“Two, actually,” Ohje said. “The first one dumped me while he was doing his mandatory military service, but then I dumped the second one while I was doing my service, so I forgave the first one.”
Hwiyeong blinked. “I...hadn’t considered that added difficulty of two men dating.”
“Me neither,” Ohje said.
Hwiyeong cleared his throat. “Nothing I do will ever make up for what I did. All I can do is try to be a better person.”
Ohje felt something in his chest loosen, something he hadn’t even realized was all knotted up, had been knotted up since the first day he’d run into Hwiyeong. “That’s all any of us can do.” He finished mixing his coffee, took a sip. “That really hits the spot.” He saluted Hwiyeong with his coffee cup. “It’s good to see you again. We should play basketball sometime.”
Hwiyeong said, “I’d like that.”
Ohje smiled, and then he slipped out of the office.
