Tuesday: Ars Poetica

with_rainfall and today's theme is poetry. Prompts can be quotes from poems (or songs that overlap, including ballads, lays, ghazals etc) or inspired by poetry-based fandoms. They can be about poems as physical artefacts, as performance, as artworks.
And don’t feel you have to restrict yourself to love poems, either. There’s a whole world of poetry out there.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.

Fill 1/2: SuperM superhero AU, ensemble
Date: 2021-05-12 02:34 am (UTC)He’d promised Yukhei he’d come home, he’d promised. After he’d caught Yukhei crying after their last mission, he’d sat Yukhei down and spoken softly to him in broken Cantonese, asked him what was wrong, and the whole truth had come tumbling out.
Yukhei’s superpower. A fragment of the things he’d seen.
I can’t, hyung. Yukhei had clung to him, sobbing. I can’t watch one of you die again.
And then Control had called Baekhyun. Solo mission. Over the border to North Korea.
There were still wild tigers in North Korea. As long as Ten made it past the DMZ, he could roam easily.
None of them had counted on poachers.
Not the locals, who were starving and desperate.
Ex-pats, taking advantage of North Korea’s general rule against extradition.
It was supposed to be an easy mission - cross the border, shift into tiger form, do some recon on a weapons plant, get back to the border, signal Jongin for ex-fil.
(They only used Taeyong for transport in exigent circumstances. A blur moving at the speed of sound was hard to see. A giant dragon, on the other hand, would draw attention.)
Ten had miles and miles to go yet.
He wanted to sleep.
He didn’t dare let himself stop.
Between the blood loss from the bullet wound and the fact that it was the dead of winter, he was freezing cold. Exhausted. And so, so tired.
But he had to get home, get back to his team.
In tiger form he couldn’t wear his radio - not that he wanted his radio transmissions intercepted by North Korean intelligence or military forces anyway - but he could still wear the special lenses Yukhei had made. They functioned as cameras.
Once he got close to the border, Yukhei would be able to pick up the transmission from the lenses, and he’d send Jongin for retrieval.
Ten had to make it to the border first.
He couldn’t feel his right hind leg. Was it dragging in the snow? The pads of his paws burned from the cold.
And then he heard it - the baying of hunting hounds.
The foreigners who’d shot him while out trophy hunting.
They were still following.
Ten blinked. Was he crying? His eyes were stinging. Could he even cry in tiger form?
He had to get home, to Yukhei, to his teammates, his friends and brothers, his family ever since he’d been rejected for being something other than human. Inhuman. Superhuman.
“There he is! Shoot, shoot!”
Languages were muddled up in Ten’s head. Was that English? Japanese? Mandarin? Cantonese? Thai? Korean? Something else?
Fire blazed down his side. He staggered.
Someone screamed. Had it been him?
Lightning ripped through the sky, followed by a thunderclap.
No, not a thunderclap.
Sonic boom.
Jongin was here.
Ten staggered. He yowled when claws dug into his fur.
“Relax!” Jongin shouted. “Let him take you!”
Ten blinked blearily, then saw the sinuous curve of a serpentine body, glittering midnight blue scales undulating above him. Taeyong in dragon form. He went limp in Taeyong’s grasp, and then he was airborne.
There was another scream, and another. A gunshot.
No. Jongin!
And then Ten’s world went spotty gray around the edges, and finally dark.

“But hyung, he hasn’t moved in three days,” Yukhei said, his voice watery and hoarse.
“Because I’ve kept him sedated so he doesn’t get up and ruin the sutures,” Baekhyun said. “Ten is worse than you with how restless he is.”
Ten opened his eyes.
Baekhyun, Yukhei, and Mark were sitting beside his bed.
Judging by the clack of keyboard keys in the corner, Taeyong was keeping vigil his own way, playing some League of Legends to pass the time.
“Where’s Jongin?” he asked.
“He’s fine,” Baekhyun said. “How are you?”
“I heard gunfire.”
“They didn’t hit him,” Baekhyun said. “Yukhei saw it all on the cameras.”
“Hyung! You’re awake!” Yukhei went to fling himself forward, but someone caught his collar.
Taemin. Where had he been hiding?
“Don’t crush him,” Jongin said. “Let him recover.”
Ten pushed himself up, and Mark fluffed his pillows so he could sit up properly.
Yukhei’s eyes were big and watery. “You made it back! When the transmission came in I saw those hunters but the transmission was hours old and it was so cold -”
Ten reached out, drew Yukhei into a hug. “I promised, didn’t I?”
Yukhei nodded against his throat. “Thank you.”
“You did well,” Baekhyun said. “We got the intel we needed.”
Ten nodded, but he didn’t care, held on to Yukhei a little longer. All that mattered was that he was home and safe.
