Tuesday: Abstract Concepts
May. 18th, 2021 10:15 pmHello, everyone. I’m
with_rainfall and today's theme is abstract concepts. Prompts can be anything that you can’t directly see, smell, touch, feel or hear.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Babysitters Club, Ashley Wyeth/Claudia Kishi, gentle curves and tender feelings
+ Harry Potter, Harry Potter and/or Lily Potter and/or Severus Snape and/or Tom Riddle, Dumbledore never understood that there are many different kinds of love
+ Any, any, while I look around for my possibilities
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-05-18 07:05 pm (UTC)Fill — From Amanda’s POV, the scene at the beginning of The Voyage Home
Date: 2021-05-18 08:24 pm (UTC)She laughs. “They do indeed.”
Spock turns back to his console, and she closes the distance between them, lays her hand on his arm. “Spock, if you are traveling back to earth with your comrades, that means your time here is limited.”
He inclines his head. “Hence the enhanced speed with which I am attempting to complete my mental training.”
She bows her head slightly, letting her veil hide her face for a moment. Spock, the son she’d known so well until a handful of years ago, would have been shifting beneath her hand by now, anxious — though never using that word himself — to be out from under her touch. Whether he found the human need for touch overbearing or if he was afraid that she would ask things of him that he could not give, Spock had always been careful to keep a distance between them that would have broken the heart of most human mothers. Now, though, so recently reborn and so aware that he did not know what he did not know, he tolerated it when she held his arm, stoked his hair, asked him inane questions about his day. Funny, the struggle it had been to allow herself to do these things. Vulcan has been her home, now, longer than Earth was, and she had always honored her son’s choice to follow the Vulcan path.
“Mother,” he says, the look in his eyes mere curiosity rather than concern after her long silence. “Did you wish to say anything more?”
She sighs, and drops her hand from his arm. “Only that I will miss you when you leave, and wish that we had more time to spend together.”
“To wish for something you know cannot happen is illogical,” he says, right on cue.
“Then maybe we ought to spend as much time together as possible before you leave; if nothing else, it will prepare you for the ordeal you are about to face.”
“Ordeal?”
“A trip in close quarters with a crew made up of some of the most illogical humans I’ve ever encountered.”
The eyebrow goes up. “In the time we have spent together since my return to Vulcan, I never suspected you to be capable of being insulting.”
Amanda sucks in a sharp breath, and then — “Was that a joke, Spock?”
He tilts his head, turns to his computer console and types for a moment before returning his attention to her. “My intention was not to relate a story with a humorous climax, but I was, perhaps...” the hesitation is so unlike him, it makes her heart ache and she waits with bated breath for him to conclude, “...teasing?”
“Oh, Spock,” she whispers, laying her hand on his cheek, smiling up into those brown eyes that used to smile back at her. “You’re going to be just fine.”

Date: 2021-05-19 01:23 pm (UTC)I grew up only watching the movies, Voyage home was my favorite, and didn’t see any of the episodes until I was an adult so I’ve always been very struck by the difference in Spock’s personality .. or not personality, but his behavior ... between TVH and TOS, and his moments of teasing (“Spock you seemed almost human / I see no reason to stand here and be insulted” or “Mr Spock you’d make an excellent computer / Why, thank you captain”) absolutely delight me. I enjoyed getting to show him here, tentatively trying to understand his impulses and memories without a frame of reference for them.
to;dr ... I love Spock, I love Star Trek, thank you for the prompt, the end.
