Today's theme is genre mashup. Ever think about what your favorite show would be like aired on a different channel? Let’s dive in to some AUs!
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ The Falcon and the Winter Solider, Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson, but make it a gay romcom.
+ Star Wars, any, coffee shop AU.
+ Pride and Prejudice, any or ensemble, but make it a gritty modern drama.
+ Any, any, Daemons in the modern workplace.
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

“Unbelievable,” Kira muttered. There was another burst of knocking at the door and with every pound she felt another muscle group tense up, completely undoing all the good of her morning yoga practice.
“Couldn’t you at least wait until after Savasana to barge in?” Kira asked before the door was half open.
“If you’d leave your door unlocked,” Dax said, kicking it open the rest of the way because her hands were completely full, “I wouldn’t have to interrupt you. Here.”
Kira took the cup of black coffee (marked ‘borrrring’ this morning, courtesy of the humorist at Dax’s favorite coffee shop) and knocked back a big gulp to fortify herself before replying, she had a good one on the tip of her tongue about how the vigilante group calling themselves “the Dominion” had hacked into Dax’s phone and used it to send threats to both of them less than a month ago, but Dax was already off to the races, talking with her mouth full.
“Ben wants us downtown, stat. Mm, oh my god I want to marry this donut. There’s a kruller in there for you. Don’t touch the bearclaw though that’s for Odo’s CI.”
Kira felt her eyebrows just about rise off her forehead. “Odo and his CI got called in too? Does that mean Sisko thinks it’s…?”
“Maybe,” Dax lifted both shoulders in an eloquent shrug. “I mean, it’s not like him to be overly cautious but when it comes to the Occupation…”
“He’s not taking chances. Got it.” Kira downed the rest of her coffee, but put the kruller down untouched, her stomach twisted up in a tight knot. They’d lost too many good people to gang warfare already; the thought of another flare-up wasn’t doing anything for anyone’s calm. That the Occupation was a matter that hit way too close to home for her…well, she’d just have to keep her professional face on. And then make time for yoga and meditation in the morning and at night.
“You all right?” Dax asked suddenly, and Kira looked up to find her partner looking keenly at her.
Dax might act like a total hardass around everyone else, she might interrupt Kira’s quiet mornings or horn in on her vacation time and annoy her just for the sake of it, but when it came to Kira’s actual wellbeing, she could turn into a mama tiger on the spot. Kira would never forget – make that no one at the station would ever forget – the way Dax went toe to toe with Captain Sisko when he assigned her to the Dominion task force. After everything she went through – everything she lost working undercover against the Occupation, you want to send her right back in? You don’t think she’s done enough, Benjamin?
“I’m all right,” Kira said, smiling to show she mostly meant it, tacking on a quiet, “thanks, Jadzia.”
“All right, if you say so.” Casting her eyes over Kira once more, Dax turned back to her brisk, businesslike self. “You better change, I told him we’d be there in thirty and morning traffic’s a be-yatch.”
Re: Fill! 2/2
Date: 2021-06-28 09:03 pm (UTC)“Oh, god,” he muttered under his breath. He puffed up his cheeks, blew out a breath, straightened his shoulders, and resumed his march towards the crime scene. The only way out is through, old chap.
“My dear doctor!” the voice rang out right on cue, and Julian plastered a smile across his face. “I must say, I thought you’d be here rather sooner. I’ve done my best to protect the scene from contamination but, you know how it is once the detectives are involved…”
“Mr. Garak, so nice to see you ag—” he hadn’t even got the words out before Garak was tutting and taking him by the arm, pulling him along and saying gregariously, “It’s just Garak, doctor.”
“Plain, simple Garak,” Julian muttered the words along with him, catching sight of detectives Kira and Dax just ahead.
“Hey, doc,” Kira said, straightening up as he approached, grimacing as she wiped mud off her knees. “It’s a weird one, all right.”
“They don’t usually call me in for anything less than ‘weird,’” Julian said, though from the dozen or so spikes he could see protruding from the victim’s body, this definitely was a different level of weird. Glancing over at Garak who’d returned to the side of his handler, Julian lowered his voice and asked, “If Odo and Garak are here, does that mean this has something to do with…?”
Dax and Kira exchanged a look, holding one of their silent conversations, and when Dax nodded at her Kira’s whole face changed, expression morphing from her usual borderline-pissed-off persona to something weary and almost resigned. Dax turned back to Julian and lifted her chin, pointing discreetly towards the forensics team at work halfway down the alley. “Why don’t you make your initial observations then join us down there, see how it all starts tallying up.”
Julian knelt beside the body, began directing his team and then dictating observations into his voice recorder. He noted the victim’s earring, similar in style to Detective Kira’s. His traditional style of dress, too, was similar to what he’d seen Kira wearing in her off hours, the few times they’d run into each other at Quark’s. Definitely someone from the Bajor community, then. But was it a random act of violence – random in the sense that the identity of the victim didn’t matter at all to the attacker; there was virtually no chance a crime like this was not premeditated in some sense – or…?
“Oh, dear,” Julian said softly.
“Indeed,” came the voice at his elbow, making Julian start. Garak had shown up silently and was crouching beside him, looking grim.
“Did you read it?” Julian asked him.
“No.” Garak sounded bleakly amused. “My esteemed handler suggested I leave it until you arrived. But I think we both know what it’s going to say, don’t we, doctor?”
Julian let out a long breath through his nose, then carefully opened the victim’s hand, uncurling the fingers just enough to pull free the piece of blood-red paper.
“Definitely inserted into his grasp post-mortem,” Julian murmured into his voice recorder, then he and Garak bent their heads over the paper, reading together the words scrawled there in a too-familiar script.
The Occupation will never end.
