Hi! I’m
brumeier, and this week we’re going to be tapping into some tunes for inspiration. Today’s theme is Songs in the Key of…Family & Friends! Your prompts can be any song title, set of lyrics, band name, or album title that evokes feelings (good or bad) for family members or friends.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Check, Please!, Any,
And no matter how much time goes by
And no matter how much we grow up
For worse or for better, from now 'til forever
I'll always remember you young
(Thomas Rhett)
+ Stargate Atlantis, Rodney McKay + Jeannie Miller,
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less
(The Pretenders)
+ Astro, Any, Brothers in Arms (Dire Straits)
+ Forever, Henry Morgan + Abe, Dance With My Father (Luther Vandross)
We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-09-24 03:42 am (UTC)The rest of them looked at each other and nodded solemnly.
Then Myungjun said, “I’ve never heard you say so much in one go. Who are you and what have you done with our Jinjin?”
The others giggled, and some of the tension eased.
And then the MC was saying, “Here they are, the iTeen Rising Stars!”
The crowd roared.
As one, the eight of them filed onto the stage.
They made their greetings and bowed.
“Hello! Wanna be your star! We are iTeen!”
There was scattered applause as they took their starting positions, and music flooded over the speakers.
They started to dance, and they moved as one. Minhyuk steadied Dongmin when he turned too slowly and almost tripped on his own foot. Bin held Sanha tightly during a lift. Myungjun tapped Juyeon’s shoulder so Juyeon would know where to go when he forgot the choreo for a moment. When the first song ended, Jinwoo reached out and clapped Jaeseon on the shoulder as the lights went down, a silent you did well.
That was just the first number.
There were six more numbers that night, and eight more nights to go.
They’d fight together, brothers-in-arms against a fickle, judgmental world.
In the end, it was Jinwoo, Dongmin, Minhyuk, Bin, Sanha, and Myungjun.
On the final night, they raised their hands high, and Jinwoo led them in their farewell.
“Thank you, and good night! We are iTeen!”
Seven years later, the six of them stood on a stage in front of thousands of screaming fans. Seven years of toil and struggle, of sleep deprivation and stress, of almost disbanding, of missing their families and each other as they scrambled to keep their team afloat, had led them to this moment, where they could feel like they were on top of the world.
Jinwoo led them in their team greeting.
“Wanna be your star! Hello! We are Astro!”
They bowed, and cheers filled the room, swept over them like a wave.
The six of them straightened up and waved, and the cheers rose.
The lights went down so they could scramble into their places.
The lights came up, and music with it. Together they sang.
We come as one.

Date: 2021-07-08 11:04 am (UTC)“Abigail used to love this tune,” Henry said. “I can remember waltzing round our kitchen with her to it.”
Abe nodded. “And when she’d say she had to get on with dinner, you’d get me to dance with you and she’d complain we we’re getting in her way. Not that she ever told us to stop.”
“We could do it again, now.”
“I’m not sure I’m up to waltzing round the kitchen any more,” Abe protested.
“Oh, go on. Humour your old dad!”
“Very well. Just this once!”

Date: 2021-07-08 11:05 am (UTC)Lucas looked up from the letter he was reading. “Just family news from my aunt. She writes to me about every six months, pointing out how well everyone else has done and how I have clearly done nothing to give them pleasure. It’s stupid really, I don’t care about the family, don’t feel like I belong, and yet it still hurts.”
“We’re your family now. Adam and I are like your brother and sister. All right, Adam’s more than that, but you get the idea.”
“And what about Malcolm?”
“I’m the favourite uncle, who brings things your parents don’t want you to have,” Malcolm replied. “And here, have a doughnut each.” He offered the bag to each of them.
“What about Ros?” Lucas asked, nodding towards Harry’s office, where they were deep in conversation.
“Well…” Jo began.
Ros came out of the office, carrying a pile of papers and surveyed the others.
“The bossy older sister,” Lucas and Jo said and giggled.
Ros looked at them. “Will you two grow up?”

Date: 2021-07-09 02:46 am (UTC)Steve walked into the diner, caught sight of two pairs of sunglasses and a familiar flash of red hair, and stopped in the doorway. Then shuffled to one side, apologizing politely to the family trying to get past, finally coming over and sitting down at the empty side of the table, facing Natasha and Clint.
“So, how’d you find me? Mind reading on your resume too?”
Natasha quirked a grin at Clint, who handed over a ten-dollar bill.
“What was—" Steve looked puzzled for only a moment, then his shoulders dropped. “Did you put a bet on me saying something about mind reading?”
Clint’s turn to smirk, and Natasha handed the money back.
“Okay,” Steve narrowed his eyes, looking between them. “Now you’re just messing with me.”
Clint groaned, and once again handed over the bill.
“Told you,” Natasha said, pocketing it, “he’s quick, for an old guy.”
Steve had been watching Clint, but now turned his attention back to her. “And how old are you, ma’am?”
“How old do you want me to be?” She asked, low and smooth, leaning forward a little to smile at him from across the table while beside her, Clint loosed a low whistle, sounding impressed, and asked, “and you let him keep all his fingers?”
“What?” She leaned back in her seat, the whiff of seduction vanishing like a candle blown out. “It’s cute when he does it.”
“Cuz he’s old?”
“Because it’s respectful. The difference is in the way he says it.”
“I take it…I shouldn’t call you ‘ma’am’ again,” Steve asked.
“You’re right, he is quick.”
“All right then, Miss Romanoff,” Steve started, then checked himself, eyes flicking momentarily to Clint as he clarified, “is it ‘miss’?”
“Woah, buddy,” Clint lifted his hands off the table, shaking his head. “Do not look at me. You’re lucky she likes you,” added in a faux-aside.
She arched her eyebrow at Clint, then turned back to Steve. “How about Natasha.”
“All right. Natasha. What are you doing here?”
“You see, it’s like this. I got red in my ledger—"
“That means she’s buying,” Clint interrupted. “Which means I’m ordering two of everything.”
Natasha smiled winningly at Steve, saying sweetly, “Clint here is celebrating having his own mind back by being as big a pain in the ass as he possibly can. Please, ignore him. It’s what the rest of us do.”
“The rest of us?” Clint echoed, looking around. “Come on, Nat. You know you’re my only friend.”
“Oh my god,” she turned to Clint suddenly. “I just figured out what this reminds me of.”
“If you say Budapest again, I swear to—"
“Why would I say Budapest, how is this like—"
“Well New York wasn’t like Budapest either and that didn’t—"
“Do you even remember which one was Budapest? Big river, palace, eight bridges—"
“—thanks to us it’s not seven—”
“—your ass out of the—"
“—don’t even, my ass was just fine before you—"
“Hey!”
Two pairs of eyes flashed to Steve, then up to the waitress. Who looked, frankly, terrified.
“Show a little respect, or I’ll be getting my own table.”
“Yes, sir,” they said in harmony, smirked in unison, and lifted their menus in perfect synchrony.

Date: 2021-07-08 03:35 pm (UTC)Fill 1/2: Trixie Belden Mysteries, Dan Mangan/Mart Belden + Trixie Belden
Date: 2021-07-08 10:33 pm (UTC)Mart had only just come home from the hospital after his head had an unfortunate collision with the paddock fence. He still didn’t remember being thrown, but his short-term memory was nearly back to normal.
He’d scared the crap out of Dan. And convinced him there was no time like the present to start thinking about the two of them moving in together.
There was a soft knock on the front door. Probably Clarence, checking in to make sure “his boy” was settling in okay.
“Dan! Hey!”
Instead of Clarence, Dan found himself with an armful of Mart’s sister Trixie. Who hadn’t told him she was coming in from California, and he’d talked to her several times yesterday about Mart’s medical condition.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Dan asked ungraciously.
Trixie pulled her suitcase in from the little front porch and left it in the kitchen. “Well, where else would I be, silly? How is he?”
“He’s awake,” Mart called sleepily from the bedroom.
Dan gave Trixie a sour look, but she just brushed past him. “You’ve got some nerve, Martin Belden! You got the whole family worked up, Moms was crying on the phone, and I had to drag my sorry butt all the way out here to make sure Dan hadn’t secretly buried your body at the edge of the ranch.”
Mart pushed himself up so he was sitting. He cocked his head to the side and looked at Trixie quizzically. “Who are you?”
“That’s not even funny, Mart!” Trixie fussed with the blankets and checked the side of Mart’s head where they’d had to shave his hair away to stitch him up properly. “How are you really?”
“I’m fine,” Mart said, slapping her hands away from his pillow. “I don’t need two nursemaids! What are you doing here?”
Trixie dropped down on the side of the bed. “What do you think I’m doing here? My best friend and almost twin nearly died! Where else would I be?”
Mart blushed, which Dan found endearing. He was also surprised. He wasn’t sure he’d ever heard Trixie refer to Mart that way before. The two of them bickered like fury sometimes, and Mart was an expert in pushing all of Trixie’s buttons.
“My brain has definitely gone soft,” Mart said. He pulled Trixie in for a hug, and Dan retreated to the kitchen to give them some privacy.
