Monday - tropes
Jul. 12th, 2021 12:05 amGood Morning! I am
momma_66 as your guest host (again) for the week. To get our Monday started the theme today is
Tropes
Love them or hate them we see them everywhere and where would fandom be without a few age-old few!
As defined by Merriam-Webster - a word or expression used in a figurative sense : figure of speech. b : a common or overused theme or device
TV tropes if you need a little inspiration
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling…
Loki, Loki +/ Mobius, there is only one bed
Any, Any, Rich Kids
9-1-1, Buck Buckley/Eddie Diaz, what hasn't killed them, made them stronger
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2021 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.
While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Date: 2021-07-12 09:00 pm (UTC)A Different Way to Be, Clint Barton/Remy LeBeau + Loki + Lucky (Marvel: Avengers/X-Men) -- part 1
Date: 2021-09-08 04:57 am (UTC)Phone in hand, Clint sent a short reply and stowed it away in his back pocket again as he resumed putting away his grocery shopping. From his vantage point sitting on a small section of kitchen countertop and narrowly avoiding hitting his back on the cabinets behind him, Loki couldn't see the received message or Clint's face, but the man appeared to relax for a moment, judging by his back and shoulders.
"Good news?"
"Not news," Clint finished the refrigerated items with a glance toward Loki, "but yeah, I guess it's good."
"You guess?" Loki shared a look with Lucky, who was lying on the floor watching Clint step this way and that, safely out of his way. "Is this what you were trying to tell me about? His strange new friend?"
Clint scoffed. "Not new, Loki, and you're definitely my strangest friend," he paused, "which, actually, is an achievement, all things considered. You should be proud."
"Oh, I am," Loki said with a smile, "but your flattery will not distract me. Who is making your jeans buzz this fine afternoon?"
Clint sighed as he closed a cabinet now fully restocked with cereal and other breakfast options. "Do you really hafta ask questions in that way? I mean, really, it's not what you think. I just hung out with one of the X-Men last night. Well, X-Man at the moment. He's not on the A Team, let's just say."
"Hmm, is he too busy with his own life, or too often in trouble with the authorities for that club?" Loki gestured thoughtfully with one hand while picking up a box of snack food from a shopping bag near him.
"Honestly? Both. But that's not the point." Clint took the box from Loki before he could open it.
"Right. So last night?"
"We had dinner."
"Oooh. Where?"
"Some place he'd heard had good tempura and a good Japanese alcohol menu."
"Oddly specific."
"We'd talked about Japan before, and he mentioned plum wine, and rice wine sounded good to me, so."
"And how was it?"
"Better than I thought it'd be. Nice ambience. Kinda expensive, though. But y'know, fresh seafood and imports."
"I can imagine. Tatami mats? Floor cushions? Sliding doors?"
"Half of it, for small tables."
"So not a noisy, boisterous place?"
"Not where we were sitting, no."
"Were you sharing a kotatsu, Clint?"
"What? No. It's July."
"All right, then who paid?"
"We both did." Clint paused. "Well, I paid for--"
"--Dessert?"
"Uh. And the tip. He didn't have cash, and besides, I paid last time."
"Oh? Last time?"
"It was lunch, maybe a week ago? No wait, last weekend."
"Is that when you discussed Japanese cuisine? On your weekend lunch date?"
"It wasn't a date, Loki."
"Oh, my mistake. Last night was your first real date."
A Different Way to Be, Clint Barton/Remy LeBeau + Loki + Lucky (Marvel: Avengers/X-Men) -- part 2
Date: 2021-09-08 04:58 am (UTC)"You went out together the night before, he paid for the meal and the drinks, and now you're making each other's pockets buzz."
"Okay, you're oversimplifying things."
"And you're blind."
"Hey. Watch it."
"He sent you something, and instead of putting your ice cream in the freezer, you set it back on the counter and pulled out your phone to look at it."
"I... did not." Clint turned to look at the refrigerator, thinking back. "Did I?"
"How many messages have you exchanged today?"
Clint blinked. "I dunno. Maybe four? They're all short."
Loki sighed as if the answer was obvious. "Check your phone, Clint."
Pacing around the kitchen, Clint unhurriedly did so. Then he stopped in his tracks, his back to Loki.
"That took far too long to count to four, my clueless friend. So what's the grand total?"
Clint didn't answer. He didn't move.
"Come now, whatever it is, I won't laugh. I don't think. I may perhaps offer some encouraging words, like--"
"--Loki," Clint interrupted loudly, then shook his head. "Don't." Clint then knelt on the floor next to Lucky, his gaze still on the small screen in one hand as the other slowly stroked the dog's head and back.
"I wasn't teasing you there at the end," Loki said, his tone losing its levity. "I'll sincerely support you, whether you decide to pursue this or not. Either way, I'll also sincerely evaluate his worthiness of your companionship and... well, you." Loki waited for a response or a reaction. He slipped off the counter to his feet. "Was that... too much?" Loki stepped around to Clint's front. "Clint?"
"You... really are my strangest friend, but in the best possible way," Clint said quietly, his attention now on Lucky's head resting on his thigh, watching dark eyes close as his fingers continued their rhythmic scratching. "He... He wants to meet up again in a couple of days. If I don't mind."
Loki sat at Clint's other side, folding his legs in one smooth motion. "And do you mind?"
"No," Clint said slowly but without hesitation, "I don't." Clint took a deep breath and unlocked his phone again, inwardly pleased that Loki turned his head away as he did so, and then pushed his phone toward Loki.
"Ah. Are you sure?"
"Read it. It doesn't sound like flirting to me, but what the hell do I know, apparently."
Loki hummed after he read that day's messages. He did need to scroll, but not much. "Well, the total is fewer than ten, but all within the past two hours. No, nothing overt here, except for two things."
"What?" Clint turned to stare at Loki. "It can't be nothing and something. What two things?"
"Well, for one, the nickname."
"Oh, that. He gives everyone a nickname. He'll give you one, too. And you'll be stuck with it, whether you like it or not."
"Not sure if I should look forward to that, but fine. Anyway. How about this?" Loki pointed to one of the last messages. "He offered to cook for you, Clint."
"I... Yes, I wondered about that," Clint mumbled.
"I may very well be wrong about Midgardian customs here, but that sounds like an excuse to be alone together in a domestic environment, doing domestic things together. Because of course you're going to help him cook or clean up."
"Of course I'd offer to help."
"Then what? Drinks? He pays for meal ingredients, and you pay for imported wine of the not necessarily grape variety?"
A Different Way to Be, Clint Barton/Remy LeBeau + Loki + Lucky (Marvel: Avengers/X-Men) part 3 (end)
Date: 2021-09-08 04:59 am (UTC)"Focus, 'Hawky.'"
"Right. And don't call me that."
"So only he can?"
"...Damn it."
"And to that I say three things: I've made my point," Loki paused for Clint's reluctant nod, "be aware of what you're getting into," he received another nod, "and get it, Clint Barton."
Clint shoved Loki away from him and used Lucky's side as a pillow to hide his face.
"Go away, Loki."
"It's not like I want to know all the details later. Just make sure you're stocked up on the necessities before you go. Or will he be invited here?" Loki glanced around as if peering through the cabinets and walls. "It's possible, with some cleaning. Does he like dogs?"
"Yeah, pets are fine." Clint eventually said as he sat up, clearing his throat and thankful for another topic. "He has cats. We've been to each other's apartments before. No problems there."
Loki nodded, thoughts still elsewhere. "That's good. Hmm. Oh. Of course." He smiled at Clint. "Invite him here. Tidy up. And don't wear those jeans," he pointed down, "Wear those jeans."
"What jeans?"
"You very well know which jeans can definitively settle all of this. Your 'good ass' jeans."
"Did you hear Nat call them that?" Clint asked with a sigh. "Yeah, I know about those jeans. That's why I don't wear them much."
"Well, that's both helpful and silly. They're not worn out, but you've also missed out on some free drinks."
"And some unwanted attention. Last time I wore them, a guy followed me for three blocks before I lost him at a crosswalk."
Loki chuckled a bit at that image. "So you gave him a parting gift as you ran away."
"Shut up and stop talking about my ass already."
"Fine, fine." Loki shifted as he eyed Clint. "Next would be your arms. And your torso, really."
"Nope. Not happening."
"No need to go shopping. You already have a couple of flattering options for a good date night shirt--"
"--Okay, Loki, I appreciate your help, I really do, but please," he patted Loki's shoulder. "Please stop now."
Pausing mid-breath, Loki changed what he was going to say. "Yes, I will. After one last little reminder... to actually set up this home-cooked meal with him."
"Oh shit," Clint said with a slight laugh. "Thanks."
"Also, as a side note," Loki added, ignoring Clint's look, "I've met Mister Remy LeBeau -- I nearly hired him once, but that's a story for another time -- and he hasn't bestowed upon me a nickname, affectionate or otherwise."
As Clint's mind stuttered on the word "affectionate," Loki stood and walked out of the kitchen, followed closely behind by Lucky, who wasn't as asleep on Clint's leg as he'd appeared to have been.
Only when Clint stood up and heard a faint crinkle of plastic did he notice that Loki had snatched the new package of peanut butter cookies off the counter on his way out.
"Hey, buy your own snacks! And Lucky has his own!"
"I know! I watched you not store them in the cabinet behind me!"
"Damn it, I really was distracted," Clint muttered as he started texting Remy back.
