Pinch Hit: Friday is for Fur Babies

templefugate. I noticed that no one had posted a prompt list for today and decided to fix that. So, today, on very short notice, we are going to focus on fur babies! Dogs, cats, hamsters, even the non-fur-covered animals that worm their way into our hearts are fair game as prompts.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.

Mahanon Lavellan smiled as he walked towards the training grounds, where he knew Donal Sutherland was currently spending time with his friends, at least according to Scout Harding.
Candied oranges his lover favoured had finally arrived, a few days earlier than expected, even, and Mahanon couldn’t wait to share them with Donal. He also couldn’t wait to let the other man know that they had a whole week to themselves before his next scheduled trip to the Exalted Plains. Seven days of rest and falling asleep, and waking up, next to Donal, barring any unforeseen problems, of course. It sounded amazing. It had been a month since they saw each other last, and the thought of wrapping his arms around Donal once more made Mahanon walk faster.
When the mage finally spotted the other man, Donal was alone, surprisingly, and he was kneeling by the batch of bushes near the Herald’s Rest. He was clearly talking to someone, but to whom? Mahanon couldn’t tell.
“Who are you talking to?”
Donal turned his head at the sound of Mahanon’s voice, a bright smile appearing on his face when their eyes met. He stood up right away, and took Mahanon’s hands in his, thumbs caressing the mage’s knuckles.
“You were supposed to be back tomorrow,” Donal squeezed Mahanon’s hands briefly. “I’m definitely not complaining about seeing you, though.”
“We were lucky. The roads were almost clear, so we managed to get here earlier than we had planned. So, are you going to tell me who were you talking to just now?”
“What? Oh, I was just…”
Before the warrior had a chance to finish the sentence, they heard a loud yip, then a few more, and then a tiny animal ran up to Donal and started nudging him with its head, jumping around happily.
“Here you are, you little scoundrel,” Donal picked the animal up, looking it right in the eye, while it tilted its head. “You can’t just walk away like that, you hear me? What if something had happened to you?”
“Is that… a mabari puppy?”
Only then did Donal look at Mahanon again, hugging the puppy tighter to his chest. “Yes. He kind of… followed us, well, me, after we had left the Hinterlands. He was lying next to me when I had woken up, and I just couldn’t leave him in the middle of the woods.”
“I’ve never seen a mabari before,” Mahanon reached out slowly, offering one hand for the puppy to sniff. A wet nose connected with the mage’s palm first, then moved to his fingers and wrist, and soon the puppy was happily licking his fingers. “He’s cute.”
“He is,” Donal smiled, rubbing the mabari’s head.
“What’s his name?”
“He doesn’t have one, yet. I can’t find anything fitting. Shayd wanted to name him Berry, and Rat was voting for Dagger, but he didn’t react to either of those.”

“Maybe he’s not listening, because he knows you don’t follow that particular rule yourself, you know,” Mahanon observed, trying not to laugh when a dark blush instantly covered Donal’s cheeks at the comment. “But I think I just came up with a fitting name for him. Biter. It’s a good name for such a mighty hound, don’t you think?”
Cheeks still flushed, Donal continued scratching the mabari’s head. “What do you think, Biter? Do you like that?”
The mabari barked once, presumably in agreement, because he was still wagging his tail and trying to lick the warrior’s hand.
“Biter it is, then,” Donal hid his face against Biter’s neck, while the puppy started sniffing his cheeks and chin. “Do you think he’s too young to travel with me? I mean, I don’t want to leave him behind, but I also don’t want anything to happen to him, you know? Could he maybe stay with you when I’m away? Not always, just from time to time. He won’t bother you, I promise, I just don’t want to leave him in the tavern, because he’s too curious for his own good, and…”
“Of course he can stay with me. But something tells me he won’t enjoy being left behind,” Mahanon stepped closer to Donal and started scratching Biter behind one ear.
Donal smiled at the mage, and leaned in shyly to press their lips together. Mahanon wrapped one arm around the warrior’s waist, deepening the kiss, when suddenly he felt a tiny cold nose against his neck, which made him smile against his lover’s lips.
“Let’s go get some food from the kitchens,” he told the other man, letting go of his shirt. “We can eat in my quarters. Maybe we’ll find something for Biter to munch on, as well. Someone here must be selling treats. Maybe Master Dennet?”
Nodding once, Donal put Biter on the ground, letting the puppy run around them in circles, barking happily. Before the mage turned to leave, however, Donal kissed him once more, caressing Mahanon’s cheek.
“Thank you,” he said when they broke apart, and Mahanon caught the hand that was cradling his cheek to tangle their fingers together.
“Come on. I think I’m not the only one who’s starving. And for dessert we can have the oranges I bought.”
“Oranges?”
“Yes. I asked Bonny if she could order some for us. We have two whole crates, including the candied ones. And we have a whole week to enjoy them, too, starting from tonight. Surprise?”
Donal blinked once, then twice, and licked his lips briefly, before he scratched the back of his neck.
“I… I’m going to go and ask if Shayd and the others will look after Biter. Tonight, at least,” Donal muttered, his cheeks reddening once more. “Just give me a moment.”
“I’m sure they won’t mind. You go, then, and I’ll get us some food. I’ll be waiting for you in my quarters.”
“Yes, Inquisitor,” Donal grinned, making Mahanon shake his head with fondness.
