Date: 2021-08-01 04:37 am (UTC)One, that however much time is left in the universe, they'd like to spend it together. They're rather pleased they agree on that point.
Two, that with so much time spread out before them, there's no hurry to accomplish anything. They can absolutely spend a few years doing what makes them happy, then see where they want to go from there.
When you're an immortal being, your idea of a vacation is a little different than a human's. A several month long tour of the Americas is practically a weekend jaunt.
And so that's exactly what they do.
They do all of the historical tours-the big ones, like battlefields and the Library of Congress, but the silly ones, too. They do a vampire tour in New Orleans, though they both know there's no such thing. They enjoy themselves thoroughly, especially when a young teen who is on the tour with them becomes convinced that Crowley himself is a vampire.
Crowley does nothing to disabuse her of this notion.
In the Twin Cities, they do the Twin Town Tacky Tour, and Crowley laughs himself sick at Aziraphale's alternating horror and excitement at some of the things they see.
They thoroughly enjoy the underground tunnels in Seattle, and the conspiracy theory tour in Dallas, Texas all about the JFK assassination. Aziraphale has long suspected Crowley was involved, and the demon smugly refuses to confirm or deny the suspicion- which only infuriates and amuses Aziraphale further. He's almost positive he spots Crowley in a frame of footage at the Sixth Floor Museum, but then he convinces himself the woman is too short to be his friend.
They visit a museum devoted to circus curiosities, and it leads to several weeks of bouncing around looking for the surviving small circuses and carnivals that still travel the country. Aziraphale eats cotton candy and funnel cake until even he is sick from it. Crowley wins him a giant stuffed bear, just because he can.
They visit places they've been before, too. Neither of them had a ton of work in the 'New World', but both visited occasionally, and Aziraphale shows Crowley a pub he and Benjamin Franklin had quite enjoyed, then Crowley walks him through how the demon had helped some young men invent Facebook- then inspired one young man to steal the idea from the others.
It's a thoroughly arresting few months, and before they know it half a year has passed.
"Do you think we should be heading back?" Aziraphale asks one morning as they check out of another hotel.
"Can if you want. Or we can head somewhere else. We get to choose," Crowley had pointed out.
"Where would you like to go?" Aziraphale had offered. The Georgia O'Keefe museum had been his request- he quite likes her work. It's only fair Crowley pick their next destination.
"I honestly couldn't care less, so long as I'm with you," the demon had admitted.
"Me either. In fact, I don't feel the need to keep 'going' places at all. We could just 'be' somewhere for a bit, if we wanted," Aziraphale had suggested tenattively.
There was some discussion to be had- eventually, they'd decided they would both much rather 'be' in England than the States, so back across the ocean they'd gone. They'd found a small cottage with room for a garden, and they'd settled into village life quite nicely.
Neither of them ever seemed to notice that, somewhere along the way, they'd fallen in love. They were both just very grateful they got the chance to do so.
